New Baltimore Historic District

New Baltimore is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in eastern Fauquier County, Virginia, United States. The population as of the 2010 census was 8,119. The community has existed since the early 19th century, but it has had its most significant growth since the 1980s. It is the portion of Fauquier County with the easiest access to Washington, D.C., and as a result, many people who live in New Baltimore commute into DC. Other major communities close to New Baltimore are Warrenton, Gainesville/Haymarket area, and Manassas. The area officially considered to be New Baltimore expanded significantly in 2006 with Fauquier County's designation of service districts, of which New Baltimore is one. The service district designation provides added access to utilities such as water and sewer, and targets the area for growth.

Mount Hope is a historic home located near New Baltimore, Fauquier County, Virginia. The house was built in four periods from the early-19th to early-20th centuries. The main dwelling is a 2 ½-story, three-bay, frame dwelling on a stone foundation and in the Greek Revival style. It features a double-story porch with a hipped roof and square wooden columns. Also on the property are the contributing bank barn, a machine shed, a smokehouse, and a spring house dating from the 19th century; an early-20th-century shed; a well; and the Hunton Family cemetery.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

The Battle of Buckland Mills, also known as The Buckland Races or Chestnut Hill, was fought on October 19, 1863, between Union and Confederate forces in the American Civil War. Union cavalry led by Brig. Gen. Judson Kilpatrick were caught in a Confederate ambush and defeated. Near Buckland Mills, on Broad Run, Confederate cavalry commander Maj. Gen. J.E.B. Stuart, with Maj. Gen. Wade Hampton's cavalry division, were covering Gen. Robert E. Lee's retirement from his defeat at Bristoe to the Rappahannock River. On October 19, they turned on Kilpatrick's pursuing Federal cavalry, while Maj. Gen. Fitzhugh Lee's division charged the Federal flank. Kilpatrick was routed, fleeing five miles to Haymarket and Gainesville. The Confederates derisively called the affair "The Buckland Races", although some Confederate commanders likened it to a fox hunt. The Condeferate forces incurred 41 casualties. The Union forces lost about 261 men, most of which were taken prisoner.

The Phoebe Hall Knipling Outdoor Laboratory (usually called "the Arlington Outdoor Lab" or simply "Outdoor Lab") is a 225-acre (0.91 km2) outdoor facility located in Fauquier County, Virginia. It is owned and operated by Arlington Outdoor Education Association, Inc. with funding from Arlington Public Schools with the aim of teaching urban students in Arlington County, Virginia science, outdoor skills, arts, and humanities in a natural setting. Its mascot is a spotted salamander.

Buckland Historic District is a national historic district located at Buckland, Prince William County, Virginia. It encompasses 30 contributing buildings, 11 contributing sites, and 6 contributing structures in the town of Buckland. The district is centered on a grist mill (c. 1899), Buckland Mill, the third such structure located on the site. Besides the mill, the most significant buildings include an early 19th-century wagon tavern and a small church (c. 1857). For the most part the houses are small, simple, 19th-century dwellings constructed of log, frame or stone; most were intended to serve a commercial as well as a residential purpose. Other contributing resources include the mill race and dam, Cerro Gordo plantation, portions of the Civil War Buckland battlefields, the Kinsley Mill and miller's house, and Buckland Hall (c. 1774).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988, with a boundary increase in 2008.

Buckland is an unincorporated community in Prince William County, Virginia. Established in 1798, Buckland was an early inland stagecoach town, situated along the Fauquier and Alexandria Turnpike. An 1855 gazetteer described it as having "1 church and a few shops".Buckland is the current site of the Buckland Historic District and Battle of Buckland Mills Civil War Battlefield.

The Cold War Museum is a history museum in Warrenton, Virginia, focused on Cold War history. The museum was founded in 1996 by Francis Gary Powers Jr. (son of pilot Francis Gary Powers), and John C. Welch to preserve Cold War history and honor Cold War veterans.

Kettle Run High School is a public high school in Nokesville, Virginia. The school is part of Fauquier County Public Schools and is located at 7403 Academic Avenue, Nokesville, VA. It has an enrollment of a little more than 1,200 students. The graduating class of 2015 consisted of 281 seniors. Kettle Run feeds into Mountain Vista Governor's School.

Vint Hill Farms Station (VHFS) was a United States Army and National Security Agency (NSA) signals intelligence and electronic warfare facility located in Fauquier County, Virginia, near Warrenton. VHFS was closed in 1997 and the land was sold off in 1999. Today the site hosts various engineering and technology companies, as well as two Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic control facilities.

The Battle of Thoroughfare Gap, also known as Chapman's Mill, took place on August 28, 1862, in Fauquier County and Prince William County, Virginia, as part of the Northern Virginia Campaign of the American Civil War. Confederate forces under Maj. Gen. James Longstreet successfully drove back Union forces under Brig. Gen. James B. Ricketts and Col. Percy Wyndham, allowing his corps to unite with that of Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson prior to the Second Battle of Bull Run (Second Manassas).

Thoroughfare Gap is a water gap in the Bull Run Mountains created by Broad Run between High Point Mountain to the north and Bisquit Mountain to the south. It is located on the border of Prince William and Fauquier counties in Virginia. True to its name, the small gap is traversed by Interstate 66, Virginia State Route 55 and the Manassas Gap Railroad. The ruins of historic Beverley Mill are located at the gap. The gap was the site of the 1862 Battle of Thoroughfare Gap during the American Civil War. The Thoroughfare Gap Battlefield was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

Heflin's Store, also known as Stover's Store and Brawner's Store, is a historic general store located near Little Georgetown, Fauquier County, Virginia. It was built in 1845, and is a 1+1⁄2-story, three bay, stuccoed rubble stone structure. It has a front gable roof. The building housed a general store from the time of its construction into the 1970s.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.
