Battle of Swift Creek

The Swift Creek Mill is a historic grist mill at 17401 Jefferson Davis Hwy in South Chesterfield, Virginia, just across Swift Creek from the city of Colonial Heights. Built about 1850, the present brick mill structure is one of a long line of mills that have occupied this site since the mid-17th century. The mill was adapted for use as the Swift Creek Mill Theater in the 1960s. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

The Battle of Port Walthall Junction was fought May 6–7, 1864, between Union and Confederate forces during the Bermuda Hundred Campaign of the American Civil War. Although initially successful, the Confederates were eventually defeated, allowing Union forces to cut a railroad. The Port Walthall Junction on the Richmond-Petersburg Railroad connected with the spur to Port Walthall.

Colonial Heights High School (CHHS) is a public high school located in Colonial Heights, Virginia, United States. The school serves about 800 students grades 9 – 12. The high school includes a Technical Center which offers a variety of vocational education programs. CHHS is also currently an accredited high school in the state.

Shepherd Stadium is a baseball stadium in Colonial Heights, Virginia which is home to the Tri-City Chili Peppers, a collegiate summer baseball team in the Coastal Plain League. Shepherd Stadium also hosts American Legion Post 284 baseball, the annual Optimist Club Boys' Invitational Baseball Tournament, Colonial Heights High School baseball, and city Rec and Parks youth baseball and softball programs. The stadium was built in 1948 and named for Mayor Fred R. Shepherd in 1951. A five-year renovation project was concluded in 2018.

Southpark Mall is a shopping mall serving the Tri-Cities, Virginia area, which itself is part of the much larger Richmond-Petersburg metropolitan area.

The Tri-Cities of Virginia (also known as the Tri-City area or the Appomattox Basin) is an area in the Greater Richmond Region which includes the three independent cities of Petersburg, Colonial Heights, and Hopewell and portions of the adjoining counties of Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, and Prince George in south-central Virginia. Other unincorporated communities located in the Tri-Cities area include Ettrick, Fort Gregg-Adams, and City Point, the latter formerly a historic incorporated town which was annexed to become part of the City of Hopewell.

Chesterfield Highlands Historic District is a national historic district located at Colonial Heights, Virginia. The district encompasses 305 contributing buildings and 1 contributing structure. The district was developed in the early decades of the 20th century as a carefully planned middle-class neighborhood in a gridiron plan. The primarily residential district includes dwellings in a variety of popular late 19th and early 20th century architectural styles. Located in the district are the Highland Methodist Episcopal Church (1920), Immanuel Baptist Church (1932), and Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church (1950).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

The Violet Bank Historic District encompasses a historic streetcar suburban area of Colonial Heights, Virginia. The area, originally part of the large Violet Bank plantation, was platted and subdivided in the early 20th century, with development restrictions that resulted in a significant uniformity of layout within the subdivisions. Specific restrictions against flat roofs and fencing between yards are still evident in the building constructed in the area, which includes 237 primarily residential buildings on about 50 acres (20 ha) of land. The district includes the original Violet Bank plantation house, now a museum.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.

Colonial Heights is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 18,170. The Bureau of Economic Analysis combines the City of Colonial Heights (along with the City of Petersburg) with Dinwiddie County for statistical purposes. Colonial Heights is located in the Tri-Cities area of the Richmond Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).

Swift Creek is a 44.9-mile-long (72.3 km) river in the U.S. state of Virginia. It rises west of Richmond in Powhatan County near U.S. Route 60 and travels southeast through Powhatan County and into Chesterfield County southwest of Hallsboro. Swift Creek flows to the north side of the Swift Creek Reservoir. After a series of twists and turns it courses into Pocahontas State Park, where it then forms Swift Creek Lake. After flowing out of Pocahontas State Park and into southeastern Chesterfield County, it eventually forms the northern boundary of Colonial Heights, where it joins the Appomattox River.

Ettrick is a census-designated place (CDP) in Chesterfield County, Virginia, United States. Per the 2020 census, the population was 7,241. The town is home to Virginia State University and the Petersburg Amtrak train station. Most of Ettrick has a Petersburg mailing address, ZIP code 23803, although the community is not part of the city of Petersburg.

Fort Clifton Archeological Site is a historic American Civil War fort archaeological site located at Fort Clifton Park, Colonial Heights, Virginia. The park is the site of Fort Clifton on the Appomattox River where five Union ships sailed on Confederate troops on June 11, 1864. The Confederate Battery, with cannon emplacements, remained in Confederate hands as the cannons drove the Union attackers away. The park has earthworks that criss-cross the property. Fort Clifton Park has hiking trails and Civil War campaign signage on site.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.
