Halton, Buckinghamshire

Halton House is a country house in the Chiltern Hills above the village of Halton in Buckinghamshire, England. It was built for Alfred Freiherr de Rothschild between 1880 and 1883. It is used as the main officers' mess for RAF Halton and is listed Grade II* on the National Heritage List for England.

Royal Air Force Halton, or more simply RAF Halton, is one of the largest Royal Air Force stations in the United Kingdom. It is located near the village of Halton near Wendover, Buckinghamshire. The site has been in use since the First World War but is due to close by December 2027.

The Trenchard Museum is based at RAF Halton, Halton, Buckinghamshire, England. The overall aim of the museum is to preserve and display items that relate to the early history of the Royal Air Force, particularly the training of apprentices that took place at RAF Halton. It is named after Lord Trenchard, who is known as the father of the Royal Air Force, founded the aircraft apprentice scheme, and had a strong association with RAF Halton. The museum was opened in 1999.

The Princess Mary's Royal Air Force Hospital Halton, was the first Royal Air Force hospital to be built that was dedicated to air force personnel. Located on what was then the largest of the RAF camps at RAF Halton in Buckinghamshire, England, the hospital treated over 20,000 patients during the Second World War and was the first place in the world to use penicillin on a large-scale. The hospital continued in use throughout the Cold War, only closing in 1996 due to defence cuts.

The John Colet School is a co-educational secondary school in Wendover, Buckinghamshire, England. In August 2011 the school became an Academy.The school was founded in the 1950s, and is named after churchman and scholar John Colet. In September 2006 the school celebrated its 50th anniversary.It takes children from the age of 11 through to the age of 18. The school has approximately 1,014 pupils, with approximately 140 students in the sixth form. There are around 60 staff at the school. A year group is made up of six forms, Burke, Canning, Disraeli, Gladstone, Hampden and Steele; named after Edmund Burke, George Canning, Benjamin Disraeli, William Ewart Gladstone, John Hampden and Richard Steele respectively. Once in sixth form these forms are incorporated into three form groups Burke, Canning and Disraeli.

Aston Hill Bike Park is located adjacent to Wendover Woods on the ridge of the Chiltern Hills, above Aston Clinton, Buckinghamshire. It is managed by Forestry England and the Community Interest Company (CIC) Chiltern Hills Bike park. Aston Hill is a challenging venue, better suited to intermediate and expert riders when dry and more experienced riders when wet. There are downhill (DH) cross country (XC) and four-cross (4X) mountain bike trails. The downhill trails are the Red Run (which is part of the XC loop) the Black Run, Ricochet, Root Canal, and Surface to Air freeride trail. Aston Hill hosts various events throughout the year, like the "Firecrest MTB Adult Rider Development Programme". Aston Hill is now open every day of the week with the Forestry England rangers taking responsibility for opening and locking the gate, mirroring the opening hours of Wendover Woods and closing half an hour before them.

Weston Turville Reservoir is a 19 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest south of Weston Turville in Buckinghamshire. It is owned by the Canal & River Trust, and the open water is leased to sailing and fishing clubs while the surrounding land is managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust. The site is in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.The reservoir was built in 1797 to supply water to the Wendover Arm of the Grand Union Canal. Large areas now have a deep silt deposit but in the more open areas, fan-leafed water crowfoot, small pondweed and the European white water lily grow. The southwestern and southern parts have extensive reed beds and this is where water mudwort and orange foxtail are both found, both plants being rare in Buckinghamshire. There is a more varied flora in the southeastern part, with grey clubrush and lesser bulrush. The two chalk streams that flow into the reservoir pass through an area of tall fen and here, and by the side of a small pond, early marsh orchids grow. The trees are mostly grey willow, crack willow, silver birch and other deciduous species.The open water is an important site for 46 species of over-wintering waterfowl, and it is nationally important for shovelers. The areas around the reservoir have tall fen, reed beds and willow carr, declining habitats in Britain. There are over 300 species of beetle, of which six are rare nationally.There is access to the perimeter path around the reservoir from World's End Lane and Halton Lane. The reservoir is home to Aylesbury Sailing Club, which can be accessed on the same path.

Aston Clinton House (also known as Green Park though referred to as simply Aston Clinton by the Rothschild family) was a large mansion to the south-east of the village of Aston Clinton in Buckinghamshire, England.

Wendover is a town and civil parish at the foot of the Chiltern Hills in Buckinghamshire, England. It is situated at the point where the main road across the Chilterns between London and Aylesbury intersects with the once important road along the foot of the Chilterns. The town is some 35 miles (56 km) north west of London and 5 miles (8 km) south east of Aylesbury. The parish has an area of 5,832 acres (2,360 ha) and had, at the time of the 2011 census, a population of 7,399. Outside Wendover, the parish is mainly arable and also contains several hamlets in the surrounding hills. Wendover has a weekly market, and has had a market charter since 1464.

Aston Hill Climb (not "Aston Clinton Hillclimb") was a speed hill climb on public roads up Aston Hill near Aston Clinton in Buckinghamshire which was active from 1904 until 1925. The hill's enduring claim to fame came when Lionel Martin and his partner Robert Bamford achieved success with their self-built 'special' car, and hence named their fledgling car manufacturing business Aston Martin.

Aston Clinton is a historic village and civil parish in the Vale of Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire, England. The village lies at the foot of the Chiltern Hills, between the Wendover and Aylesbury arms of the Grand Union Canal. Surrounding towns include Wendover to the south, Aylesbury to the west, and Tring to the east - across the nearby county border with Hertfordshire.
