Aberdovey railway station

Aberdovey Lifeboat Station (Welsh: Gorsaf Bad Achub Aberdyfi) is an RNLI lifeboat station in the coastal village of Aberdyfi, Gwynedd, West Wales, on the Dyfi estuary in Cardigan Bay. It was established in 1853, but there has been a lifeboat serving the village since 1837. Since 1998 the station has operated an Atlantic 75-class inshore lifeboat, RNLB Sandwell Lifeline (B-758), launched by tractor. This station is classed as an RNLI "Discover" lifeboat station, which welcomes visitors normally during the summer months.

Aberdyfi (Welsh pronunciation: [abɛrˈdəvi]), also known as Aberdovey ( a-bər-DUH-vee), is a village and community in Gwynedd, Wales, located on the northern side of the estuary of the River Dyfi. The population of the community was 878 at the 2011 census. The electoral ward had a larger population of 1,282 and includes the community of Pennal. Founded by shipbuilding, Aberdyfi is now a seaside resort with a high quality beach. The centre is on the river and seafront, around the original harbour, jetty and beach; it stretches back from the coast and up the steep hillside in the midst of typical Welsh coastal scenery of steep green hills and sheep farms. Penhelig railway station (Welsh: Penhelyg) is in the eastern part of the village. Being less than 100 miles (160 km) from the West Midlands, the area is popular with tourists. 43.3% of houses in the village are holiday homes. The village is located within the Snowdonia National Park. In the 2011 census, 38.5% of the population of Aberdyfi ward identified themselves as Welsh (or combined). 59.4% of the population were born outside Wales. According to the 2021 census, 43.3% could speak Welsh with an increase of 0.7% from last time.

Ynyslas (Welsh pronunciation: [ənɪsˈlas], meaning "Blue Island") is a small Welsh village about 1.5 miles north of Borth and 8 miles north of Aberystwyth, within the county of Ceredigion. It is sandwiched between a long sandy beach in Cardigan Bay and the beach in the Dyfi Estuary. The area between the sea and the estuary beach is made up of the Ynyslas Sand Dunes which are part of the Dyfi National Nature Reserve and home to many rare plants and animals. The sands of the estuary beach can be driven onto and parked upon. The nature reserve has a visitor centre with toilets and a small shop. At the start of some BBC 1 programmes, it shows people flying kites on the sand dunes, this was filmed at Ynyslas. The northern end of the Ceredigion Coast Path extends to the Dyfi Estuary National Nature Reserve at Ynyslas.

The Dyfi National Nature Reserve, managed by Natural Resources Wales, the successor body to the Countryside Council for Wales, is located 7 miles (11 km) north of Aberystwyth in the county of Ceredigion, Wales on the Dyfi estuary. Ynyslas Sand Dunes (Welsh: Twyni Tywod Ynyslas) are sand dunes located in Ceredigion, Wales. They border Cardigan Bay and the Dyfi Estuary between Ynyslas, Ceredigion and Aberdyfi, Gwynedd. The sand dunes are part of the Dyfi National Nature Reserve.

Penhelig railway station (Welsh: Penhelyg) serves the eastern outskirts of the seaside resort of Aberdyfi in Gwynedd, Wales. It was opened by the Great Western Railway in 1933.Its situation is unusual, being located on a short length of sharply curved single track between two tunnels. The station is an unstaffed halt on the Cambrian Coast Railway with passenger services to Tywyn, Barmouth, Harlech, Porthmadog, Pwllheli, Machynlleth and Shrewsbury. Trains stop on request.

The Afon Leri (Welsh pronunciation: [ˈlɛri]) (English: River Leri) is a river in Ceredigion, Wales. It rises at Llyn Craig-y-Pistyll and is joined at Talybont by Afon Ceulan before passing behind Borth to its mouth in the Dyfi estuary at Ynyslas. The river once flowed into Cardigan Bay at Aberleri, to the south of Ynyslas. In 1824 its route was diverted to provide a harbour for the local shipbuilding industry.In June 2012 the Leri was affected by serious flooding causing property damage in Talybont, Dolybont and Borth following torrential rain in the area.

Ynys Tachwedd is a hamlet in the community of Borth, Ceredigion, Wales, which is 80.5 miles (129.6 km) from Cardiff and 180.5 miles (290.5 km) from London. Ynys Tachwedd is represented in the Senedd by Elin Jones (Plaid Cymru) and is part of the Ceredigion constituency in the House of Commons.

Hen Dyffryn Gwyn is a Grade II* listed building in Tywyn, Gwynedd. The house has been dated to 1640 and is listed for being a well-preserved example of a rural dwelling house with strong external character and original detail.

Cors Fochno (Welsh pronunciation: [kɔrs ˈvɔχnɔ])is a raised peat bog near the village of Borth, in the county of Ceredigion, Wales. Lying on the south side of the Dyfi estuary, it forms a component part of the Dyfi National Nature Reserve. It was designated a UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) biosphere reserve in 1976, and is the only such reserve in Wales.A significant portion of the 264 hectares (652 acres) former peatland complex was taken for agriculture; the surviving core area supports the largest expanse of primary near-natural raised bog in an estuarine context within the United Kingdom.

Afon Dyffryn Gwyn is a river in Gwynedd, north-west Wales. Its source is on Trum Gelli above Cwm Maethlon (also known as Dyffryn Gwyn and Happy Valley). It flows in a south-westerly direction through Cwm Maethlon and reaches the sea near Penllyn farm, south of Tywyn. It was formerly sometimes known as Caethle Brook. Until the 1860s the river flowed into a lake called Llyn y Borth (or Penllyn Pool) just prior to reaching the sea. Both the river and the lake (on which small boats could be launched) were noted for their trout before lead mining in Cwm Maethlon in the 1850s polluted the water.The river's estuary was altered in the early nineteenth century as part of drainage works. Following this the reformed mouth of the river became known as Abernewydd (literally, 'new estuary').In 1862 further drainage works associated with building of the Aberystwith and Welsh Coast Railway straightened the river's course, drained Llyn y Borth, and effectively removed the estuary. Since then, the river reaches the Cardigan Bay via an outflow pipe.
