Altavista is an incorporated town in Campbell County, Virginia, United States. The town is in the Lynchburg Metropolitan Area, with a population of 3,378 in the 2020 census. It was founded in 1907 by John Edward Lane and Henry L. Lane of the Lane Company, and was chartered in September 1912.

Mansion Truss Bridge was a historic Camelback through truss bridge located near Mansion (now Altavista) in Campbell County, Virginia. It was built in 1903, and consisted of two camelback through trusses. It was elevated high above the Staunton River and took its name from the 18th century mansion of early settler John Ward. It was demolished in 1999. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, and delisted in 2005.

Altavista Downtown Historic District is a national historic district located at Altavista, Campbell County, Virginia. It encompasses 48 contributing buildings in the central business district of Altavista. Notable buildings include the Altavista Municipal Building (1938), U.S. Post Office (1938), Altavista Presbyterian Church (1925), Central Baptist Church (1927), Southern Railway station (1936), Ogden-Henderson Building (1909), First National Bank (1917) by Stanhope Johnson (1882–1973), Leggett's department store (1933), and Vista Theater (1936). It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.

Mansion is a locale on the banks of the Staunton River, between Campbell County and Pittsylvania County. It is located east of the mouth of the Otter River near Altavista, VA. The area was first settled by the Ward family in 1753, who built "The Mansion" in 1762, the namesake of the area. It was also the site of the Mansion Truss Bridge until 1999.

Locust Hill is a historic home and farm complex located near Hurt, Pittsylvania County, Virginia, United States. The house was built in two sections with the main section built in 1861, and expanded with a three-story rear ell in 1930. The original section is a 2+1⁄2-story, three-bay, frame dwelling in the Swiss Gothic style. It has a steeply pitched gable roof that incorporates two central chimneys and four gable ends decorated in ornamental bargeboard. Also on the property are a number of contributing resources including a tavern, a servants' quarter, a kitchen, an icehouse, a chicken house, a smoke house, a dairy, a servants' quarter, a caretaker's house, a grist mill, a dam, a family cemetery, and the ruins of an 18th-century house. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

Altavista Combined School is a public school in Altavista, Virginia. The school houses both the middle school and high school in the same building, and the enrollment ranges between 600 and 700 students in grades 6–12. Their mascot is named "The Colonel", and their sports teams are named "The Colonels". The school is a member of VHSL and competes with the Group A Dogwood District.

Lynch Station is an unincorporated community in Campbell County, Virginia, United States. It is situated just north of the town of Altavista, focused around Route 626. Although technically in Campbell County, some areas in the southeastern part of neighboring Bedford County use Lynch Station as their address. Lynch Station's elevation is 705 feet (215 meters).

Hurt is a town in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, United States. The population was 1,269 at the 2020 census. It is included in the Danville, Virginia metropolitan area.

Oak Grove is a historic plantation house located near Altavista, Campbell County, Virginia. It was built in stages between the 1750s and 1833. The oldest section is a two-story dog-trot log structure built around 1750. The house was enlarged in 1784, and completed around 1833 by adding a west wing. It is a two-story, three bay structure containing a large hall and a parlor on the first floor and a stair hall and two bedrooms on the second in the Federal style. Also on the property are a contributing smokehouse, a slave quarter, a grain shed, a hay barn, and a privy as well as the remains of a kitchen and an icehouse. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
