Holstein Kiel

Holstein-Stadion is a stadium in the port city of Kiel in Northern Germany. It is the home of football club Holstein Kiel, who currently play in Germany's 2. Bundesliga.2005, the DFB ruled that the old stadium did not meet the body's minimal stadium requirements, claiming the stadium was no longer fit for football and was in desperate need of a substantial makeover. Failure to make the required upgrades would rule the club ineligible to play in the 2. Bundesliga or potentially result in the DFB revoking Holstein Kiel's license entirely. 2006 the city government and team officials subsequently developed a plan to provide 1.6 million Euros towards the renovation of the stadium.

Kiel University, officially the Christian-Albrecht University of Kiel, (German: Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, abbreviated CAU, known informally as Christiana Albertina) is a public research university in the city of Kiel, Germany. It was founded in 1665 as the Academia Holsatorum Chiloniensis by Christian Albert, Duke of Holstein-Gottorp and has approximately 27,000 students today. It is the largest, oldest, and most prestigious university in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. Until 1866, it was not only the northernmost university in Germany but at the same time the 2nd largest university of Denmark. Faculty, alumni, and researchers of Kiel University have won 12 Nobel Prizes. Kiel University has been a member of the German Universities Excellence Initiative since 2006. The Cluster of Excellence The Future Ocean, which was established in cooperation with the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel in 2006, is internationally recognized. The second Cluster of Excellence "Inflammation at Interfaces" deals with chronic inflammatory diseases. The Kiel Institute for the World Economy is also affiliated with Kiel University. The university has a great reputation for its focus on public international law. The oldest public international law institution in Germany and Europe – the Walther Schuecking Institute for International Law – is based in Kiel.

The Botanischer Garten der Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (8 hectares), or less formally the Botanischer Garten Kiel, is a botanical garden and arboretum maintained by the University of Kiel. It is located at Am Botanischen Garten 1, Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, and open daily.

The Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education at Kiel University (IPN; German: Leibniz-Institut für die Pädagogik der Naturwissenschaften und Mathematik), previously known as the Leibniz Institute for Science Education, is a scientific institute in the field of Education Research as well as the Didactic method of Natural science in Germany. It is a member of the Leibniz Association and located in Kiel, Germany. Although it is not part of Kiel University, the two maintain a strong relationship.The institute was founded in 1966 by physicist Karl Hecht (with participation of Werner Krobel), who remained director until 1971.

The Walther Schücking Institute of International Law at the University of Kiel was founded in 1914 as the Institut für Internationales Recht. It is the oldest university institute for public international law in Germany. The institute ranks among the top three international law institutes within Germany and has a great reputation throughout Europe.The Institute was renamed in 1995 in honor of Walther Schücking, professor of international law at the University of Kiel from 1926-1933 and the first German judge at the Permanent Court of International Justice in The Hague from 1930-1935.

Steenbek-Projensdorf is a district of Kiel, about five kilometres north of the city centre. The population is 5.869 (End 2018).

The Ferdinand Tönnies Society (Ferdinand-Tönnies-Gesellschaft e. V., FTG) was founded in 1956 in Kiel, Germany. Its main purpose is to further sociological research, especially on Ferdinand Tönnies (1855–1936), the founder of German sociology.

Muthesius Academy of Art (German: Muthesius Kunsthochschule) is an art school and is located in the city of Kiel in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The school was named for architect Hermann Muthesius. The school was founded in 1907 as an Arts and Crafts (movement) and handicraft school, the current version of the school including the name and art school status started in 2005.

The University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein (German: Universitätsklinikum Schleswig-Holstein, abbreviated as UKSH) is a university hospital, located in Kiel and Lübeck in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. Its aim is to ensure medical care in Schleswig-Holstein.

Theater Kiel is a theatre company in Kiel, the capital of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is jointly funded by the city and the state. The company produces opera, musical, ballet, plays, and theatre for youth and children, in three different buildings: the Opernhaus (completed in 1907), the Schauspielhaus, and the Theater im Werftpark.

Opernhaus Kiel (Kiel Opera House) is the major venue for opera, ballet, and orchestral performances in Kiel, and home to Theater Kiel. It is a Grade II listed building.

German submarine U-2552 was a Type XXI U-boat (one of the "Elektroboote") of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine, built for service in World War II. She was ordered on 6 November 1943, and was laid down on 10 December 1944 at the Blohm & Voss yard at Hamburg, as yard number 2552. She was launched on 31 March 1945, and commissioned under the command of Kapitänleutnant Johannes Rudolph on 21 April 1945.
