Lubań County

Gmina Lubań is a rural gmina (administrative district) in Lubań County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland. Its seat is the town of Lubań, although the town is not part of the territory of the gmina. The gmina covers an area of 142.15 square kilometres (54.9 sq mi), and as of 2019 its total population is 6,601.

Lubań [ˈlubaɲ] (German: Lauban; Czech: Lubáň), sometimes called Lubań Śląski (English: Silesian Lubań; Upper Sorbian: Lubań Šlešćina, pronounced [ˈlubanʲ ˈʃlɛʃtʃina]); is a town in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in southwest Poland. It is the administrative seat of Lubań County and also of the smaller Gmina Lubań (although it is not part of the territory of the latter, as the town is a separate urban gmina in its own right).

Prior to 1945 it was in Germany (Lower Silesia) and had the name Wingendorf. It lies approximately 3 km (2 mi) south of Lubań, and 121 km (75 mi) west of the regional capital Wrocław. The National Heritage Board of Poland (Narodowy Instytut Dziedzictwa) has put the Protestant church of 1799 and the palace and park of Jałowiec on its monument list.

Henryków Lubański [xɛnˈrɨkuf luˈbaɲski] (German: Katholisch Hennersdorf) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Lubań, within Lubań County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland. It lies approximately 7 km (4 mi) north-west of Lubań, and 124 km (77 mi) west of the regional capital Wrocław. The village contains Poland's oldest tree – a 1260-year-old yew, which is listed as a natural monument. Historically considered a part of Upper Lusatia, although more closely associated with Lower Silesia in the early 14th century and from 1815. The St. Nicholas Church is a stop on the Lower Silesian route of the Way of St. James.
