Gothic Mountain

The Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory (also known by its acronym RMBL — pronounced 'rumble') is a high-altitude biological field station located near Crested Butte, in the abandoned mining town of Gothic, Colorado in the West Elk Mountains. The laboratory was founded in 1928. Research areas include the ecology of the region, climate change, pollination biology, and a long-running study of the yellow-bellied marmot. The laboratory offers courses for undergraduate students, including National Science Foundation-funded REU students, and provides support for researchers from universities and colleges.

The 1966 NCAA Skiing Championships were contested at the Crested Butte ski area in Created Butte, Colorado at the thirteenth annual NCAA-sanctioned ski tournament to determine the individual and team national champions of men's collegiate alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, and ski jumping in the United States.Denver, coached by Willy Schaeffler, captured their tenth, and sixth consecutive, national championship, edging out locals Western State in the team standings. The Pioneers' sole individual win was by Terje Øverland in downhill.Repeat individual champions were Mike Elliott of Fort Lewis in cross country, and Western State's Loris Werner (skimeister). Bill Marolt of Colorado won the slalom and alpine titles to add to his two previous in downhill (1963, 1965). Utah's Frithjof Prydz regained the jumping crown he won two years earlier and added the nordic.

The Crested Butte Wild Flower Festival is a week-long event that takes place annually in July in Crested Butte, Colorado, USA. Established in 1986, the flower-focused festival includes hikes, tours, workshops and performances, and raises awareness of environmental issues, including the importance of preserving wild flowers in the city. Thousands of artists, vendors and people from all over the world gather in the town of Crested Butte for a weekend of art, food, dancing and music.There was no festival in 2020.

The Maroon Bells–Snowmass Wilderness is a U.S. Wilderness Area located in the Elk Mountains of central Colorado. The 181,535-acre (734.65 km2) wilderness was established in 1980 in the Gunnison and White River national forests. Within its boundaries are 100 miles (160 km) of trails, seven of Colorado's fourteeners and nine passes over 12,000 feet (3,700 m). The wilderness is named after the two peaks known as the Maroon Bells, and the Snowmass Mountain.

Pyramid Peak is a fourteen-thousand-foot mountain in the U.S. state of Colorado. It is the 47th highest mountain peak in Colorado, and 78th highest peak in the United States. It is located in the Elk Mountains in southeastern Pitkin County, approximately 12 miles (19 km) southwest of Aspen. The summit somewhat resembles a ragged square pyramid and is visible from the Roaring Fork River valley north of Aspen along the canyon of Maroon Creek. Like many of the peaks in the Elks, Pyramid Peak is quite steep, especially compared to more gentle fourteeners such as Mount Elbert. For example, the peak's summit rises 4,000 feet (1,200 m) above Crater Lake to the northwest in only 1.2 miles (1.9 km), and 4,400 feet (1,300 m) above East Maroon Creek to the east of the peak in the same horizontal distance.
