Chula is a mostly rural unincorporated community in the northeastern part of Amelia County just west of the Appomattox River in the U.S. state of Virginia. The town is centered around the T-intersection of SR 636 (Lodore Road) and SR 740 (Old Chula Road) in Giles District. Chula is just west of SR 604 (Chula Road), which includes a short bypass segment built around the town in the late 20th century. The area is served by the post office 7 miles southwest at Amelia Court House, ZIP code 23002. The nearest fire station to Chula is Amelia County Volunteer Fire Department Station 4, near Mattoax, 3 miles north.

Coverly is a rural unincorporated community in northeastern Amelia County in the U.S. state of Virginia. The town is located on SR 631 (Coverly Road) off SR 604 (Chula Road) at Coverly, a farm and historic home built in the 1830s, atop a hill with the Appomattox River to the east, Flat Creek to the south, and the Norfolk Southern Railway to the northwest. The railroad, originally the Richmond and Danville, crosses Route 631 between the village and Route 604. The community of Chula lies 2 miles southwest, and Mattoax and Masons Corner approximately 2 miles north. The area is served by the post office at Amelia Court House, the county seat, 8 miles southwest of Coverly, and by the volunteer fire department at Mattoax. During the Civil War, cavalry led by Union general August Kautz conducted raids against the Richmond and Danville Railroad in 1864. Confederate defenders clashed with Kautz's forces at Flat Creek Bridge, less than a mile west of the area later called Coverly, on May 14.Coverly Farm, established around 1835, continues to operate, offering tours, hiking, a seasonal pumpkin patch, local food, and wood products.

Flat Creek is a 34.0-mile (54.7 km) right-bank tributary of the Appomattox River in the U.S. state of Virginia. It rises just east of the town of Burkeville in Nottoway County and flows north into Amelia County, then northeast to join the Appomattox River just outside the village of Coverly 28 miles (45 km) northwest of Petersburg. The name appears as "Flatt Creek" on some 19th-century sources. Amelia Springs, located next to Flat Creek 2 miles north of Jetersville, was a popular resort in pre-Civil War days, and the site of the Battle of Amelia Springs just days before the end of the war in April 1865. The year before, cavalry led by Union general August Kautz had conducted raids against the Richmond and Danville Railroad, and Confederate defenders clashed with Kautz's forces at the bridge over Flat Creek just north of Chula on May 14.

Mattoax (; mə-TOE-əks) is an unincorporated community in northeastern Amelia County in the U.S. state of Virginia. Originally it was located on the right bank of the Appomattox River. Beginning in 1851, the town had its own post office, listed as "Appomattox Depot" or "Appomattox River" at first. The name "Mattoax Depot" appeared as early as 1852, and in 1855 the post office was renamed to match, with the spelling "Matoax" as a common variant. Mattoax was also a stop, at Milepost 26.8, along the former Richmond & Danville Railroad, later the Southern Railway. The Mattoax post office was listed in gazetteers at least as late as 1922; both it and the train station, however, have since been demolished.

The Tabb Monument, dedicated in 1936, is a monument in Amelia County, Virginia dedicated to Virginia-born Catholic poet John Bannister Tabb. The marker, and the one-acre (4,000 m2) plot of land surrounding it, are managed as a state park by the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is Virginia's smallest state park.

Amelia Wildlife Management Area is a 2,217-acre (8.97 km2) Wildlife Management Area located in Amelia County, Virginia. Primarily upland habitat, it also preserves around 175 acres (0.71 km2) of bottomland hardwoods and beaver swampland along the Appomattox River. Much of the land was formerly used for farming; today it is managed to preserve wildlife habitat. The forest is mature, with gently rolling terrain, and an altitude between 200 and 300 feet (61 and 91 m) above sea level. Much of the area is bounded on the north by the Appomattox River.Amelia Wildlife Management Area is owned and maintained by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. The area is open to the public for hunting, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, boating, and camping. Access for persons 17 years of age or older requires a valid hunting or fishing permit, a current Virginia boat registration, or a WMA access permit.

St. John's Church, commonly known as Grub Hill Church, is a historic Episcopalian church in rural Amelia County, in the U.S. state of Virginia. It is located on SR 609 (Grub Hill Church Road) just south of SR 636 (N. Lodore Road), between the communities of Amelia Court House and Chula. "Grub Hill" is an obsolete place-name derived from the "Grub Hill" slave quarters of the Tabb family, who donated the land for the construction of an Episcopal church. Grub Hill Church was originally established on the site in the mid-1700s; the current structure was built in 1852, and consists of a one-story gable-roofed brick structure in a vernacular Gothic Revival style.Currently owned by Christ Episcopal Church of Amelia Court House, St. John's is still used by the parish for occasional services, including the Eucharist in May and October.The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Pilkinton is an unincorporated community in Powhatan County, in the U.S. state of Virginia.

Winterham is a historic plantation house located near Winterham and Amelia Court House, Amelia County, Virginia, on Grub Hill Church Road. It was built about 1855 and is a two-story frame structure with a hipped roof in the Italian villa style. It has four original porches and a cross-hall plan. Also on the property are a contributing late 19th century farm dependency and early 20th century garage.It is the only known Virginia building by Thomas Tabb Giles, a significant amateur architect, and William Percival, a significant professional architect. Giles was the son of Governor William Branch Giles, who owned Wigwam, another notable historic estate, located several miles north. A set of original architectural drawings for Winterham are housed at the Virginia Historical Society. In the 21st century, the house is privately owned and operated as a bed and breakfast and a venue for catering and weddings. Winterham was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

Genito is an unincorporated community in Powhatan County, in the U.S. state of Virginia.

Paxton is a historic home located near Powhatan, Powhatan County, Virginia. It was built about 1819, and is a two-story, three-bay, Federal style brick I-house dwelling. It has a 1+1⁄2-story side wing. Also on the property are the contributing brick smokehouse, two small early-19th century one-room-plan frame dwellings, a 19th-century brick and frame icehouse, a late-19th century frame barn, and a family cemetery.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
