Coverly is a rural unincorporated community in northeastern Amelia County in the U.S. state of Virginia. The town is located on SR 631 (Coverly Road) off SR 604 (Chula Road) at Coverly, a farm and historic home built in the 1830s, atop a hill with the Appomattox River to the east, Flat Creek to the south, and the Norfolk Southern Railway to the northwest. The railroad, originally the Richmond and Danville, crosses Route 631 between the village and Route 604. The community of Chula lies 2 miles southwest, and Mattoax and Masons Corner approximately 2 miles north. The area is served by the post office at Amelia Court House, the county seat, 8 miles southwest of Coverly, and by the volunteer fire department at Mattoax. During the Civil War, cavalry led by Union general August Kautz conducted raids against the Richmond and Danville Railroad in 1864. Confederate defenders clashed with Kautz's forces at Flat Creek Bridge, less than a mile west of the area later called Coverly, on May 14.Coverly Farm, established around 1835, continues to operate, offering tours, hiking, a seasonal pumpkin patch, local food, and wood products.

Chula is a mostly rural unincorporated community in the northeastern part of Amelia County just west of the Appomattox River in the U.S. state of Virginia. The town is centered around the T-intersection of SR 636 (Lodore Road) and SR 740 (Old Chula Road) in Giles District. Chula is just west of SR 604 (Chula Road), which includes a short bypass segment built around the town in the late 20th century. Mattoax (; mə-TOE-əks) is an unincorporated community in northeastern Amelia County in the U.S. state of Virginia. Originally it was located on the right bank of the Appomattox River. Beginning in 1851, the town had its own post office, listed as "Appomattox Depot" or "Appomattox River" at first. The name "Mattoax Depot" appeared as early as 1852, and in 1855 the post office was renamed to match, with the spelling "Matoax" as a common variant. Mattoax was also a stop, at Milepost 26.8, along the former Richmond & Danville Railroad, later the Southern Railway. The Mattoax post office was listed in gazetteers at least as late as 1922; both it and the train station, however, have since been demolished.

Dykeland is a historic home located near Chula, Amelia County, Virginia. It is a two-story, wood-frame house reflecting two architectural styles and three periods of construction. It consists of a two-story vernacular section built about 1838 and attached 1+1⁄2-story rear wing dating to the early-19th century. A two-story Italianate section dates to 1856-1857 and features a hipped roof. A one-story Italianate-style porch unifies the two sections. Also on the property are a contributing smokehouse and shed.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

Paxton is a historic home located near Powhatan, Powhatan County, Virginia. It was built about 1819, and is a two-story, three-bay, Federal style brick I-house dwelling. It has a 1+1⁄2-story side wing. Also on the property are the contributing brick smokehouse, two small early-19th century one-room-plan frame dwellings, a 19th-century brick and frame icehouse, a late-19th century frame barn, and a family cemetery.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Amelia Wildlife Management Area is a 2,217-acre (8.97 km2) Wildlife Management Area located in Amelia County, Virginia. Primarily upland habitat, it also preserves around 175 acres (0.71 km2) of bottomland hardwoods and beaver swampland along the Appomattox River. Much of the land was formerly used for farming; today it is managed to preserve wildlife habitat. The forest is mature, with gently rolling terrain, and an altitude between 200 and 300 feet (61 and 91 m) above sea level. Much of the area is bounded on the north by the Appomattox River.Amelia Wildlife Management Area is owned and maintained by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. The area is open to the public for hunting, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, boating, and camping. Access for persons 17 years of age or older requires a valid hunting or fishing permit, a current Virginia boat registration, or a WMA access permit.

Clayville is an unincorporated community in Powhatan County, in the U.S. state of Virginia.

Skinquarter is an unincorporated town located off U.S. Route 360 in the western part of Chesterfield County in Virginia. It is located on the headwaters off Goode's Creek and Skinquarter Creek which flow to different places on the Appomattox River. The town was named by the early settlers for a spring nearby where the Native Americans would skin and quarter (chop into four pieces) deer. The Baptist Church that bears the name "Skinquarter" was founded in 1778. The first building was close to the spring. The present church building is the third or fourth building to be occupied by the church but it has kept the name Skinquarter continuously.It was a stop on the Farmville and Powhatan Railroad from 1884 to 1905 and then on the Tidewater and Western Railroad from 1905 to 1917. In 1926, a few years after the railroad was sold, a gas station for automobiles and store, Skinquarter Market, was built here, near the site of the Railroad Station that was about 1/4 mile up what is now Skinquarter Road. In 1891 the train did not always stop but a railway post office, a mail car on the Farmville and Powhatan, dropped off and picked up mail using the Mail on-the-fly technique. This was a hook and pouch system that let the train drop off and pick up mail without slowing down.

The Tabb Monument, dedicated in 1936, is a monument in Amelia County, Virginia dedicated to Virginia-born Catholic poet John Bannister Tabb. The marker, and the one-acre (4,000 m2) plot of land surrounding it, are managed as a state park by the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is Virginia's smallest state park.
