Hampteau

The Virgin of Werpin (French: La Vierge de Werpin) is an 11.4 m (37 ft) tall statue of the Virgin Mary in Werpin, Hotton municipality in Belgium. The statue itself is 7 m (23 ft) tall and stands on a pedestal of 3.4 m (11 ft). In front of the statue stands a small prayer house. The statue was founded after an epidemic hit the village. The funds were raised by the local father Janus, who led the operation. The statue was designed by Louis Hoyoux and Auguste Fabert, and it was inaugurated on 2 September 1931 by the Bishop of Namur, Monsignor Thomas Louis Heylen, and father Janus in the presence of 10,000 pilgrims. It is said that the statue has always protected the village and its inhabitants. During the Battle of the Bulge in the Second World War, the Germans were in the nearby forest and were shooting at the village of Hampteau, 1.5 km (1 mi) from Werpin, where the Americans were based. Everyone survived the attack because they hid behind the Virgin of Werpin. The statue is on the route of the local Côte de la Vierge de Werpin, popular as a cycling col. This 2.4 km (1 mi) long climb runs from the river Ourthe to the top of the hill, gaining 155 m (170 yd) of elevation at a maximum gradient of 6.7%.

The Caves of Hotton are speleothem caves located in Wallonia near Hotton in Belgium, which were discovered in 1958 and are around 5 or 6 km long and 70 metres deep. A stream called Syphon runs at the bottom of the caves.

Ti-Château is an old Roman oppidum (currently only ruins and a rebuilt watch tower) located near the Belgian village of Hotton. It defended an ancient city/village at the current location of Hotton. The old oppidum and its ruins lie at a triangular plateau called the Plage de Renissart, near large rock cliffs above the river Ourthe. It is likely that Ti-château was already habituated during the Neolithic, though most excavations are Roman. Ti-Château is also famous among tourists for its views over the Ourthe valley and the villages of Hotton and Hampteau.

The Faber Mill (French: Moulin Faber) is a watermill in Hotton (in the Rue Haute) built in 1729. The mill is a listed building and is built from limestone with a pegged roof and is nowadays a museum. There are four levels inside the building: one level for the three mills, one for the pairs of millstones, one for the bolting and an attic. The mill has two wheels outside in a tributary of the river Ourthe. One wheel is made of wood and the other is made of metal. The mill still works for the enjoyment of tourists and produces different qualities of flour.

The Arrondissement of Marche-en-Famenne (French: Arrondissement de Marche-en-Famenne; Dutch: Arrondissement Marche-en-Famenne) is one of the five administrative arrondissements in the Walloon province of Luxembourg, Belgium. It is both an administrative and a judicial arrondissement. However, the Judicial Arrondissement of Marche-en-Famenne also comprises the municipalities of Gouvy, Houffalize and Vielsalm in the Arrondissement of Bastogne.

Hotton War Cemetery is a Commonwealth War Graves Commission burial ground near Hotton in Belgium. Most of the British troops who died in the battle for the Ardennes are buried here.

Riveo is an environmental interpretive centre of the river Ourthe situated in Hotton, Belgium, since April 2007.

Hotton (French pronunciation: [ɔtɔ̃]; Walloon: Houton) is a municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Luxembourg, Belgium. The municipality lies 12 kilometers from Marche-en-Famenne in the Ardennes and has more than 5,400 inhabitants. The river Ourthe crosses Hotton. The municipality consists of the following districts: Hampteau, Hotton, Marenne and Fronville. There are also several hamlets: Bourdon, Deulin, Ménil-Favay, Monville, Monteuville, Melreux, Ny and Werpin. The municipality lies in the Arrondissement of Marche-en-Famenne. In the west it borders the province of Namur.

Rendeux (French pronunciation: [ʁɑ̃dø]; Walloon: Rindeu) is a municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Luxembourg, Belgium. On 1 January 2007 the municipality, which covers 68.83 km2, had 2,274 inhabitants, giving a population density of 33 inhabitants per km2. The municipality consists of the following districts: Beffe, Hodister, Marcourt, Wallonia, and Rendeux. The village of Rendeux lies in the valley of the River Ourthe in an area which attracts visitors both for its natural environment (Rendeux is home to the Robert Lenoir Arboretum) and for such nearby medieval villages as La Roche and Durbuy. The Hermitage and chapel of Saint-Thibaut is located in Rendeux on a hill overlooking the Ourthe river valley.

St. Peter's Church, Melreux (French: Église Saint-Pierre de Melreux) is a Roman Catholic church on the Avenue de la Gare in Melreux in the municipality of Hotton, Belgium. The present church, whose tower is flanked by four turrets, dates from 1671, although the 12th-century Romanesque baptismal font and medieval tombstones attest to the existence of an earlier building. The interior furnishings include some beautiful paintings, including one of Mount Golgotha attributed to the artist Riga, and an altar in the Louis XIII style. The church was completely destroyed during the Battle of the Bulge (winter of 1944–45) by the mortars of the German forces, who were fighting the oncoming Americans. Most of the interior was saved. The church was rebuilt after the war and since 1989 has had the status of a protected monument.

Beffe (French pronunciation: [bɛf]; Walloon: Bêfe) is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Rendeux, located in the province of Luxembourg, Belgium. The Ourthe river flows alongside Beffe.
