Harry Gwala Stadium is a multi-use stadium in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of Premier Soccer League club Maritzburg United. In 2008 the stadium had a capacity of 10,000, but around September 2009 it was upgraded to 12,000 seats. The reason for this, was an urgent need for more high capacity stadiums in the region, particular being requested as part of the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup. The stadium, was initially planned to be able to seat 20,000 supporters, but the municipality revealed, that with the funds at their disposal, the stadium will have a capacity of just 12,000. The stadium is named after ANC politician Harry Gwala.

Alexandra High School also known as AHS is a semi-private public high school in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It offers a co-educational environment.

Pietermaritzburg (; Zulu: umGungundlovu) is the capital and second-largest city in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It was founded in 1838 and is currently governed by the Msunduzi Local Municipality. Its Zulu name umGungundlovu is the name used for the district municipality. Pietermaritzburg is popularly called Maritzburg in Afrikaans, English and Zulu alike, and often informally abbreviated to PMB. It is a regionally important industrial hub, producing aluminium, timber and dairy products, as well as the main economic hub of Umgungundlovu District Municipality. Msunduzi Local Municipality is a local municipality in Umgungundlovu District Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It encompasses the city of Pietermaritzburg, which is the capital of the KwaZulu-Natal province and the main economic hub of Umgungundlovu District Municipality. Msunduzi Municipality is situated on the N3 highway at a junction of an industrial corridor (from Durban to Pietermaritzburg) and an agro-industrial corridor (stretching from Pietermaritzburg to Estcourt). On the regional scale, it is located at the cross section of the N3 corridor and the Greytown Road corridor to the north, a tourist route to Drakensberg and Kokstad Road to the south.The city of Pietermaritzburg is a provincial and national centre of educational excellence. Pietermaritzburg is a seat of the University of KwaZulu-Natal and is home to several other institutions of higher learning. Maritzburg College is a semi-private English-medium high school for boys situated in the city of Pietermaritzburg, in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It was founded in 1863: 18  and it's the oldest boys' high school in KwaZulu-Natal – and one of the oldest schools in South Africa. It is attended by 1 265 students, of whom approximately 470 are boarders.Once renowned in the main for its rugby and strongly traditional ethos, Maritzburg College continues to attain a 100% pass rate in the annual National Senior Certificate results, and since the start of the 21st Century has added strong cultural and pastoral programmes, including a jazz band and vigorous inter-house programme. With (amongst others) 28 rugby teams, 22 cricket teams, 19 basketball teams and 18 hockey teams, the school continues to offer its long-established, vigorous sporting programme too. In December 2022, alumni Jared Campbell and Angelo Walstroom earned their international sporting colours for hockeys 5s - in doing so, becoming the school's 321st and 322nd sporting internationals.

The Hexagon Theatre is a theatre complex that is part of the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg campus.

Woodburn Rugby Stadium

City Oval (formerly Alexandra Park and sometimes called the Pietermaritzburg Oval), is a multi-purpose stadium in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. The 12,000 capacity stadium is currently used predominantly for cricket matches, with the ground being used by KwaZulu-Natal Inland men's and women's teams, KwaZulu-Natal and Dolphins (who also play at Kingsmead, Durban), and hosted two matches during the 2003 Cricket World Cup. It is one of only three first-class cricket grounds in the world to have a tree within the boundary ropes (the others being St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury, United Kingdom and VRA Cricket Ground in Amstelveen, Netherlands), and any cricketer that scores a century or takes a five-wicket haul in a match at the City Oval gets to plant a tree at the ground. The City Oval Pavilion is based on the design of Queen's Park cricket ground in Chesterfield, United Kingdom.

The University of KwaZulu-Natal Botanical Garden located in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal was established in 1983. Although the Garden was established to support research and conservation of indigenous plants, the Garden is open to the public.

St. Nicholas Diocesan School is a diocesan Anglican school, located in Pietermaritzburg, Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. St. Nicholas is an independent school catering for boys and girls in Grades RR to 12, and is a member of the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa.

The Cathedral of the Holy Nativity is the home of the Anglican Diocese of Natal in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa in the kwaZulu-Natal Province. It is the episcopal seat of the Bishop of Natal. The cathedral is located in Langalibalele Street. The building of the cathedral followed the uniting of two city parishes while Philip Russell was bishop, that is between 1974 and 1981. After being translated to Cape Town as archbishop, Russell returned to dedicate the cathedral on 22 November 1981. The building is modern in design and is not universally loved.

Pietermaritzburg Railway Station is the main railway station serving the city of Pietermaritzburg (/ˌpiːtərˈmærɪtsbɜːrɡ/), South Africa. It is located on Railway and Pine Streets in the South Western corner of the city centre. The station is a stop on long-distance passenger rail services operated by Shosholoza Meyl. Historically, the station is famous as being the place where Mahatma Gandhi was thrown off a train for riding first class in 1893.
