Emerson School District

Emerson is an active commuter railroad station in the borough of Emerson, Bergen County, New Jersey. The station, serviced by trains of the Pascack Valley Line from Spring Valley in Rockland County, New York to Hoboken Terminal in Hudson County, New Jersey, is located at the intersection of Kinderkamack Road (County Route 503) and Linwood Avenue in Emerson. The next station to the north is Westwood while the next to the south is Oradell. The station has a single track and single low-level side platform along Kinderkamack Road, without handicap accessibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Rail service through Emerson began on March 4, 1870, with the opening of the Hackensack and New York Extension Railroad from Anderson Street station in Hackensack to Hillsdale station in the eponymous borough. At the time of opening, the station was known as Kinderkamack. The area of Kinderkamack changed its name to Etna in 1877 when the post office changed. This changed in 1909 to Emerson.

As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 7,290, a decrease of 111 (−1.5%) from the 2010 census count of 7,401, which in turn reflected an increase of 204 (+2.8%) from the 7,197 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 267 (+3.9%) from the 6,930 counted in the 1990 Census.What is now Emerson was originally formed on April 8, 1903, from portions of Washington Township as the Borough of Etna, the name of a railroad station in the community. The name was changed to Emerson as of March 9, 1909. The name came from author Ralph Waldo Emerson. The borough calls itself "The Family Town".

Emerson Junior-Senior High School is a six-year public high school that serves students in seventh through twelfth grade from Emerson, in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States, operating as the lone secondary school of the Emerson School District. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1968.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 461 students and 48.4 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 9.5:1. There were 25 students (5.4% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 7 (1.5% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

Westwood (known as "The Hub of the Pascack Valley") is a borough in Bergen County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Westwood is part of the New York metropolitan area. Many of its residents regularly commute to New York City for work and leisure, many using public transportation. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 11,282, an increase of 374 (+3.4%) from the 2010 census count of 10,908, which in turn reflected a decline of 91 (−0.8%) from the 10,999 counted in the 2000 census.Westwood was officially incorporated as a borough on May 8, 1894, from portions of Washington Township, early during the "Boroughitis" phenomenon then sweeping through Bergen County, in which 26 boroughs were formed in the county in 1894 alone. Isaac D. Bogert served as the first mayor of the borough. In April 1909, Westwood was enlarged through the annexation of the "Old Hook" section of the borough of Emerson, and on September 24, 1957, portions of the borough were exchanged with Emerson.

The next station northbound, heading toward Spring Valley, New York, is Hillsdale. The next station southbound, headed for Hoboken Terminal, is Emerson. The station consists of one track, one low-level platform with a miniature high-level platform and a station depot maintained by the borough of Westwood. Westwood also maintains the parking lots, consisting of 226 parking spaces, six of which are accessible based on the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990.

Pascack Valley Medical Center formerly known as Hackensack University Medical Center at Pascack Valley is a full-service boutique hospital located in Westwood, New Jersey, at the site of the former Pascack Valley Hospital. Owned 35% by Hackensack University Medical Center (HackensackUMC) and 65% by Ardent Health Services, HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley serves the Pascack Valley and Northern Valley communities in northern Bergen County. In 2021 it was given a grade A by the Leapfrog patient safety organization.

Oradell is a borough in Bergen County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 8,244, an increase of 266 (+3.3%) from the 2010 census count of 7,978, which in turn reflected a decline of 69 (-0.9%) from the 8,047 counted in the 2000 census. The borough includes a dam on the Hackensack River that forms the Oradell Reservoir. Oradell is a suburb of New York City, located approximately 15 miles (24 km) northwest of Midtown Manhattan. Oradell was originally formed on March 8, 1894, as the borough of Delford, from portions of Harrington Township, Midland Township (now Rochelle Park) and Palisades Township. The borough was formed during the "Boroughitis" phenomenon then sweeping through Bergen County, in which 26 boroughs were formed in the county in 1894 alone. The name "Delford" was a portmanteau created from the names of two communities within the new borough: Oradell and New Milford. The Hotel Delford had been constructed in 1870 after the construction of the first railroad to reach the area. On November 12, 1920, the borough's name was officially changed to "Oradell", based on the results of a referendum held ten days earlier. Oradell derives its name from "ora" (Latin for "edge") and "dell".New Jersey Monthly ranked Oradell as the 68th best place to live in New Jersey in its 2010 rankings of the "Top Towns" in the state. Van Buskirk-Oakley House is located in Oradell, Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The house was built in 1834 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 3, 1979.

The Oradell Reservoir Dam, known as the Oradell Dam, is a dam in Oradell, New Jersey located at the southern tip of the Oradell Reservoir, connecting it to the Lower Hackensack River, which flows south to the Newark Bay. It ranges from 25 to 50 feet (7.6 to 15.2 m) from the top to the surface of the river, depending on tide, and it is 402 feet (123 m) long. The dam is primarily used for flood control to dam the reservoir. Directly to the south is the Oradell Avenue road bridge that crosses the Hackensack River. The closest bridge northwards is the Old Hook Road (CR 502) bridge which is in the northern area of the reservoir.
