Lane Village is a small hamlet 3 miles (4.8 km) southwest of Holmfirth and approximately half a mile southwest of Holme Village on the A6024 Woodhead Road. It lies on the edge of Holme Moss just inside the Peak District National Park boundary. The rainwater springs seeping from Holme Moss and Kaye Edge provide the source of the River Holme. The village consists of farmhouses, holiday cottages and some private homes. It has long been associated with the Girl Guides Association by the addition of a small training centre, based in some refurbished buildings. Above the village is the 656 feet (200 m) tall Holme Moss radio transmitter, which is situated 1,726 feet (526 m) above sea level.

Digley Reservoir is a lake located downstream of Bilberry Reservoir, 2 miles (3.2 km) south west of Holmfirth, in West Yorkshire, England. The reservoir was planned during the 1930s, with much land being bought for its construction, but it was not completed until 1954.

Underhill at Holme, West Yorkshire, is a modern house designed by Arthur Quarmby in 1969 and built from 1973 to 1975. Underhill has been Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England since July 2017.Underhill was the first earth-sheltered house to have been built in Britain in modern times. Historic England described Underhill as "representing a significant milestone in the development of ecological and sustainable architecture".It was built at a cost of £50,000 and was constructed by J. B. Kenworthy of Holmfirth.The house features a 36-foot (11 m) hourglass-shaped swimming pool centrally located in the main room, with a large octagonal pyramid conservatory-style skylight window in the ceiling above the centre of one of its circular ends.

Holme is a village in the Holme Valley civil parish of Kirklees in West Yorkshire, England. The village straddles the A6024 road between Holmbridge and Lane village, 2.5 miles (4 km) south-west of Holmfirth. It is close to the boundaries of Derbyshire and the Peak District National Park: some properties lie outside of the National Park. Holme Moss, an area of high moorland with a prominent transmitter mast, overlooks the village from the south-west.

The Holmfirth floods were a number of instances when severe flooding had occurred in the Holme Valley, West Yorkshire, England affecting Holmfirth and other settlements in the valley. The earliest record dates from 1738 and the latest from 1944. The most severe flood occurred early on the morning of 5 February 1852, when the embankment of the Bilberry reservoir collapsed causing the deaths of 81 people. It is recorded as the 23rd most serious, worldwide, in terms of loss of life from floods and landslides in human history.

Arrunden is a hamlet in the civil parish of Holme Valley, West Yorkshire, England. It is located 1.3 miles (2.1 km) south-southwest of Holmfirth.

Holme Valley is a large civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees in West Yorkshire, England. It has a population of 25,049 (2001 census), increasing to 34,680 for the two wards in the 2011 Census. Its administrative centre is in Holmfirth. Other sizeable settlements in the parish include, Brockholes, Honley and New Mill. It is named from the River Holme that runs through the parish. . The parish is the successor to the Holmfirth urban district. An urban district covering Holmfirth was created in 1894 by the Local Government Act 1894 and then in 1938, under a County Review Order, absorbed parts of the Holme, Honley, New Mill, South Crosland and Thurstonland and Farnley Tyas urban districts, keeping the name. Under the Local Government Act 1972, the Holmfirth urban district was abolished on 1 April 1974, but its area was retained as a single civil parish with a parish council. The council changed its name from Holmfirth Parish Council to its present Holme Valley Parish Council in 1975. .

Holmfirth is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England, on the A635 and A6024 in the Holme Valley. Centred upon the confluence of the Holme and Ribble rivers, Holmfirth is 6 miles (9.7 km) south of Huddersfield and 13 miles (21 km) north-east of Glossop. It mostly consists of stone-built cottages nestled in the Pennine hills. The Peak District National Park around Holme Moss is 4 miles (6.4 km) south of the town. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Holmfirth was once a centre for pioneering film-making by Bamforth & Co., which later switched to the production of saucy seaside postcards. Between 1973 and 2010 both Holmfirth and the Holme Valley became well known as the filming location of the BBC's situation comedy Last of the Summer Wine.
