The park is located on the border of Butte County and Glenn County. Common activities include fishing for salmon, steelhead and shad; and floating the river on inner tubes, canoes or kayaks. The 349-acre (141 ha) property was established as a state park in 1979.The park's riparian habitat is an example of a disappearing natural resource. The riparian plant and animal communities depend on each other. Large oaks and cottonwoods give the shade needed for the survival of cool-water creatures. Thick understories of elderberry, wild grape, blackberry, wild rose and perennials provide shelter to a diverse wildlife population.

Big Chico Creek is a creek in northeastern California that originates near Colby Mountain in Lassen National Park. It flows 46 miles (74 km) to its confluence with the Sacramento River in Butte County. The creek's elevation declines from 5,000 feet (1,500 m) above sea level at its head to 120 feet (37 m) where it joins the Sacramento River, as shown on the Ord Ferry USGS quadrangle. Big Chico Creek forms part of the demarcation between the Sierra Nevada and the Cascade Range.A portion of Big Chico Creek flows through the city of Chico's Bidwell Park and California State University, Chico.

Cana (formerly, Missouri Bend) was a town in Butte County, California, located on the former Southern Pacific Railroad line. It lies at an elevation of 167 feet (51 m). A post office operated in Cana from 1871 to 1913, with brief closures in 1895 and 1900. In the 1870s, the community was on the stage coach routes from Chico; the population then was about 100, mostly farmers growing wheat.

Nettleton Stadium is a baseball stadium in Chico, California on the campus of California State University, Chico. It is the home field for the CSU Chico Baseball team, the Wildcats. It also served as the former home of the now-defunct Chico Heat and Chico Outlaws professional baseball teams and Chico Heat collegiate wood bat league team. It holds 4,100 people. The stadium was named for majority owner of the Chico Heat, Steve Nettleton and his wife Kathy Nettleton. The Nettleton family donated the 4.5 million dollar facility to CSU. "Another attendance record was set a few days later in California as the July 4th game in Chico between the Outlaws and their rival Reno Silver Sox was sold out before the contest. Standing room only tickets quickly sold out at the ballpark bringing a Nettleton Stadium record of 4,699 fans to the game. The demand was so great that over 3,000 additional fans that couldn't get into the event flooded neighboring fields and parking lots to cheer the team through the fences and enjoy the post-game fireworks show."

Chico Regional Airport (IATA: CIC, ICAO: KCIC, FAA LID: CIC), formerly known as Chico Municipal Airport, is four miles (6 km) north of Chico, in Butte County, California, United States. The airport covers 1,475 acres (6.0 km2), has two runways and one helipad. Its fixed-base operator, Northgate Aviation provides fuel, maintenance, flight training, and charter flights. Though an operational airport with that meets Federal Aviation Regulations Part 139 standards, the airport has not seen active commercial air service since SkyWest Airlines ended service to San Francisco at the end of 2014.
