Nepean Dam

The Avon Dam is a heritage-listed dam in Avon, Wingecarribee Shire, New South Wales, Australia. It is one of four dams and weirs in the catchment of the Upper Nepean Scheme, providing water to the Macarthur and Illawarra regions, the Wollondilly Shire, and metropolitan Sydney. The arch dam across the Avon River was completed in 1927 under the supervision of Ernest Macartney de Burgh, the dam is currently managed by the Sydney Catchment Authority and is listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register.

The Parish of Bargo is a parish of the County of Camden in New South Wales. Its seat is the village of Bargo. The Main Southern railway line passes through the parish, including the Bargo station. The Hume Highway also passes through the parish, where it intersects Avon Dam Road, and also by the Pheasants Nest roadhouse. Lake Nepean and the Nepean River are the boundaries to the east, while the Bargo River is the boundary to the west. Forest Creek is the boundary to the south.

Yanderra is a small village that is located in the Macarthur Region of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia. Yanderra is the southernmost suburb of Sydney that is located on the Hume Highway.

Bargo railway station is located on the Main South line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the town of Bargo, opening on 13 July 1919 as West Bargo at the same time as a new alignment between Picton and Mittagong. It was renamed Bargo on 1 November 1921.

Yerrinbool is a Northern Village of the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia, in the Wingecarribee Shire, and is accessible from the Hume Highway (via Bargo or Alpine) and is about a 12 km (7.5 mi) drive from nearby Mittagong. It is 7 km (4.3 mi) to Hill Top as the crow flies, accessible by foot via a fire trail. It is on the western edge of the Upper Nepean Nature Reserve, a vast area of forest, lakes and dams between Yerrinbool and the coastal communities around Wollongong (accessible by a circuitous 63 km (39 mi) by road). Yerrinbool was previously officially known as the Town of Yerrinbool. It is located on the historic Old Hume Highway.

The Wirrimbirra Sanctuary is a heritage-listed fauna sanctuary, native plant nursery, education centre and flora sanctuary located off the Hume Highway at 1305 Remembrance Drive, in outer south-western Sydney in the settlement of Bargo in the Wollondilly Shire local government area of New South Wales, Australia. It was built in 1962 by the Stead Foundation. The property is owned by the National Trust of Australia. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 1 March 2002.

Pheasants Nest is a small village in the Macarthur Region of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia, in Wollondilly Shire. It has a north bound and south bound roadhouse on the Hume Highway. At the 2016 census, Pheasants Nest had a population of 688 people. Pheasants Nest also serves as a freeway exit between Picton and Yerrinbool. Pheasants Nest was named after the Lyrebird, local to the Bargo area, which was mistakenly called a pheasant by early explorers.

Tahmoor Colliery is an underground coal mine at Tahmoor in the Southern Highlands region of New South Wales, Australia. It operates in the Bulli coal seam. Most of the mine product is hard coking coal used for steel making. A small quantity of steaming blend coal used for power generation is also produced. Both products are exported to Europe and Asia.Construction of the mine was commenced by Clutha Development in 1975 with it opened in 1980 by BP that had purchased Clutha. It was sold to Conzinc Riotinto Australia in 1989, Austal Coal in 1997, Centennial Coal in 2005, Xstrata in 2007 and Glencore in 2013 and SIMEC Group in 2018.The mine was reported in 2017 as having 57 Mt (56,000,000 long tons; 63,000,000 short tons) of reserves and 650 Mt (640,000,000 long tons; 720,000,000 short tons) total resource.The colliery is connected to the Main Southern railway line via a balloon loop that opened in May 1981.In 2013, extension of the mine was anticipated to take below a railway tunnel on the Main Southern railway line. To avoid the risk of subsidence within the tunnel, Xstrata funded the construction of a diversion around Redbank Hill to remove trains from the tunnel, which was filled with rock and sealed.

Wollondilly Anglican College is a Preschool to Year 12 co-educational private school operated by The Anglican Schools Corporation. Located in the Wollondilly Shire, the College services families and communities from areas such as the Southern Highlands, Picton, Camden, Campbelltown and beyond.

Balmoral () is a Northern Village of the Southern Highlands area of New South Wales, Australia. It is the northernmost village in Wingecarribee Shire. Balmoral Village lies mostly on the eastern side of Wilson Drive. The main street is Railway Parade. The village does not have a Post Office or shops. It has a well-maintained Village Hall, including a children's play area, and a tennis court. The village also has a NSW Rural Fire Service brigade. There is also an active Balmoral Village Association to run events and raise money for the little community. Balmoral is formerly a station on the alignment of the Main Southern railway line, and is known variously as 'Big Hill Lower Siding' (1878), 'Bargo' (1881), and 'Balmoral' (1888). On the New South Wales Government Railways Secretariat map, the locality is identified as Balmoral Private Village. In 1919, the Picton–Mittagong Deviation opened. The Loop Line continued to operate until 1978, and is now disused. The Balmoral station building was re-erected adjacent to the old school house (built in 1893) and the Loopline Pottery is on the same property. The town is served on weekdays by the Bowral to Picton NSW TrainLink bus service that runs to the towns served by the old Main South railway alignment, between Mittagong and Picton. In December 2019, Balmoral was affected by the 2019–20 Australian bushfire season when it was struck twice by fires. New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian claimed in a press conference that there was "not much left" of the town, which was disputed by the firefighters involved in efforts to save Balmoral. An early estimate of the damage was that 18 houses, which made up more than 10% of the town, had been destroyed in the fires.
