Verona High School (New Jersey)
Verona High School is a four-year comprehensive community public high school, serving students in ninth through twelfth grade in Verona, in Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, operating as the lone secondary school of the Verona Public Schools. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1947.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 642 students and 54.6 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.8:1. There were 6 students (0.9% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and none eligible for reduced-cost lunch. The school mascot is the Verona Hillbilly, which reflected the remote, rural nature of the community. It was originally created in the 1950s and pictured with a bottle of moonshine and a shotgun. The mascot later was redesigned with a dog and a fishing pole due to concerns of school violence and under-age drinking.
