Cedar Grove Schools

The Essex County Hospital Center, also known as the Overbrook Hospital, the Overbrook Asylum, or simply the Overbrook, was a psychiatric hospital that was located around 125 Fairview Avenue in the Township of Cedar Grove, New Jersey. It was used as a general hospital then converted to house patients with mental disorders. The original hospital was located at the edge of the Hilltop Reservation and designated a Conservation Easement in 2001 by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection; the site now is part of the Essex County park system. A new hospital opened in 2006, and the site of the original hospital was converted to a park and townhomes in 2017.

The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1968; The school's accreditation status was extended for seven years in Fall 2018.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 488 students and 46.8 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.4:1. There were 11 students (2.3% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 2 (0.4% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

Cedar Grove is a township in north central Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 12,980, an increase of 569 (+4.6%) from the 2010 census count of 12,411, which in turn reflected an increase of 111 (+0.9%) from the 12,300 counted in the 2000 census.New Jersey Monthly magazine ranked Cedar Grove as its fourth-best place to live in Essex County and 17th-best place overall to live in its 2008 rankings of the "Best Places To Live" in New Jersey.What is now Cedar Grove was originally incorporated by an act of the New Jersey Legislature as the Township of Verona on February 7, 1892, from portions of Caldwell Township. Portions of the township were taken to create Verona borough, based on the results of a referendum held on April 30, 1907. On April 9, 1908, the name was formally changed to Cedar Grove. The township's name derives from the Eastern Red Cedar trees that once covered its valley and hillsides.

Canfield-Morgan House, is located in Cedar Grove, Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The building was built in 1845 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 7, 1995.

Mills Reservation is a county park, consisting of a 157.15-acre (0.6360 km2) protected wooded area located in Cedar Grove and Montclair, New Jersey, United States. The reservation is maintained by the Essex County Park Commission. The reservation has several walking and jogging trails, including the Lenape Trail, four major trails, and two smaller trails. One of the four main trails leads to a cliff that overlooks the New York City skyline. Mills Reservation is located on the First Watchung Mountain, one of three Watchung Mountains which are long, low ridges of volcanic origin in northern New Jersey.

There were 6 students (0.9% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and none eligible for reduced-cost lunch.The school mascot is the Verona Hillbilly, which reflected the remote, rural nature of the community. It was originally created in the 1950s and pictured with a bottle of moonshine and a shotgun. The mascot later was redesigned with a dog and a fishing pole due to concerns of school violence and under-age drinking.

The Verona Public Schools is a comprehensive community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade from Verona, in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The Verona Public Schools (VPS) consist of six campuses: four neighborhood elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. As of the 2020–21 school year, the district, comprised of six schools, had an enrollment of 2,211 students and 182.3 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.1:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "I", the second-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.The schools provide students with a liberal education that meets and exceeds the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. With nearly 95% of Verona's graduates pursuing a college education, most curricular offerings are oriented to college preparation. Vocational programs and transitional services are offered through the schools of the Essex County Vocational Technical Schools for those planning on heading directly to the working world. The schools offer special education programs to support students with learning disabilities including one of the state's model pre-school intervention programs.

Post Office Building, Upper Montclair, also known as the Gumersall Building, is located in Montclair, Essex County, New Jersey, United States. Designed by the architect Francis A. Nelson, the building was built in 1918 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 1, 1988.

The Cliffside Hose Company No. 4, is located in Montclair, Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The firehouse was built in 1901 and added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 1, 1988. The firehouse was built to protect the north end of Montclair and currently houses Montclair Fire Department's Engine 2 and Truck 2.

Verona is a township in Essex County in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 14,572, an increase of 1,240 (+9.3%) from the 2010 census count of 13,332, which in turn reflected a decline of 201 (−1.5%) from the 13,533 counted in the 2000 census.

Presby Memorial Iris Gardens is a nonprofit, living museum specializing in iris flowers, located at 474 Upper Mountain Avenue, Montclair in Essex County, New Jersey, New Jersey, United States. The gardens are situated on 6.5 acres. Adjacent to the gardens is a Victorian house, the Walther House. The house is open to the public the hours are limited, the entrance has a seven step staircase and is home to a museum shop and headquarters for the Citizens Committee that oversees the gardens. Following financial problems in 2008 and 2009, ownership of the gardens was transferred to Essex county, who bought the Walther House for $1.1 million in order to give the gardens a better financial standing. The county then leased the gardens back to the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens for $1. While Essex County owns the property, the actual iris beds are maintained without taxpayer funds. Rather, they are maintained by private donations.
