St Jude's Church is an Australian Anglican parish church in the Melbourne suburb of Carlton. It is one of the first complete polychromatic brick churches built in the country. The church was opened in 1866 as a temporary wooden building, but was rebuilt as a Gothic-polychrome building between 1866 and 1874. It was rebuilt - completed in 2019 - after a fire in 2014. The church has five separate congregations meeting at differing times and locations.St Jude's Carlton is linked to St Jude's Hartwith (North Yorkshire UK) (Hartwith cum Winsley) which was dedicated to St Jude after refurbishment in 1891 at the request of parishioners who had emigrated to Australia and worshipped at St Jude's Carlton near Melbourne. The site is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.

The Pram Factory was an Australian alternative theatre venue in the Melbourne suburb of Carlton. The building was previously a factory that made baby carriages (known as 'prams', a colloquial abbreviation of "perambulator") Plays premiered at The Pram Factory include Don's Party, the satirical The Hills Family Show, and Pecking Orders by Phillip Motherwell It is best known as the home for the Australian Performing Group. Writer Helen Garner was a frequent patron at The Pram Factory before and during the writing of her seminal 1977 novel Monkey Grip, which showcased much of what was then a considerably counter-cultural, bohemian Carlton and inner-city Melbourne. Garner's former husband, Bill Garner, had been a member of The Pram Factory performance group throughout its heyday. The building was demolished in 1980 despite protest from the theatre community and Carlton residents. The Lygon Court shopping centre was built in its place to the designs of architect Ermin Smrekar.

La Mama Theatre is a not-for-profit theatre in Carlton, Victoria. It has been nationally and internationally acknowledged as a crucible for cutting edge, contemporary theatre since 1967. La Mama produces work by theatre makers of all backgrounds and encouraging works that deconstruct and critique form, content and social issues. The iconic venue was devastated by fire in the early hours of Saturday 19 May 2018, due to an electrical fault. It reopened to the public on 9 December 2021.

Little Italy in Victoria, Australia (sometimes referred to as the "Italian Precinct" or simply "Lygon Street"), is a "Little Italy" cultural precinct of the Italian community of Melbourne. It is situated along Lygon Street in the inner-Melbourne suburb of Carlton.According to the 2006 Australian census, Victoria has the largest Italian-Australian population in Australia (around 200,000 statewide), with much of its inner-Melbourne population recorded in the suburbs of Carlton and nearby Brunswick.Lygon Street is home to a large concentration of Italian restaurants, and is the birthplace of Melbourne's "cafe culture".Melbourne was also appointed as a sister city to Milan, Italy in 2004.

Carlton is an inner-northern suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, immediately adjoining Melbourne's Central Business District. Its local government area is the City of Melbourne. Carlton is known nationwide for its Little Italy precinct centred on Lygon Street, for its preponderance of 19th-century Victorian architecture and its garden squares including the Carlton Gardens, the latter being the location of the Royal Exhibition Building, one of Australia's few man-made sites with World Heritage status. Due to its proximity to the University of Melbourne, the CBD campus of RMIT University and the Fitzroy campus of Australian Catholic University, Carlton is also home to one of the highest concentrations of university students in Australia.

Carlton was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria located in the inner-Melbourne suburb of Carlton from 1877 to 1958. The district was defined as: Commencing at a point in the centre of Nicholson street in line with the centre of Faraday street ; thence west by a line passing through the centre of Faraday street to Madeline street ; thence north by a line passing through the centre of Madeline street and north-westerly westerly and south-westerly by a line passing through the centre of College Crescent to the Sydney road ; thence north by a line passing through the centre of the Sydney road to Park street Brunswick ; thence east by a line passing through the centre of Park street east to Nicholson street ; and thence south by a line passing through the centre of Nicholson street to the commencing point.

St Mary's College is a medium-sized Roman Catholic co-educational residential college affiliated with the University of Melbourne. Founded in 1918, St Mary's was the first Roman Catholic residential college for women at an Australian university. From its humble origins of just ten students, the college is today home to approximately 160 undergraduate and several postgraduate students during the university year.

The Ian Potter Museum of Art at the University of Melbourne in Melbourne, Australia was established in 1972. It houses the art collection of the University of Melbourne. Current director, Kelly Gellatly, was appointed in 2013. It is not to be confused with the Ian Potter Centre, another art gallery in Melbourne, run by the National Gallery of Victoria The Potter, as it is known locally, presents a curated exhibition program of historical and contemporary art. Through its activities the Potter provides for the acquisition, maintenance, conservation, cataloguing, exhibition, investigation, interpretation and promotion of the extensive art collections of the University of Melbourne. The current building opened in 1998 and was designed by the architect Nonda Katsalidis of Katsalidis Architects. The architect project team included Bill Krotiris, Adrian Amore, Lisette Agius, Donna Brzezinski, Keiran Boyle, Kei Lu Cheong, Luisa Di Gregorio, Holger Frese, Chris Godsell, Robert Kolak, Barbara Moje, Rainer Strunz, Marius Vogl, Jackie Wagner.

Newman College is an Australian Roman Catholic co-educational residential college affiliated with the University of Melbourne. During the university year it houses about 220 undergraduate students and about 80 postgraduate students and tutors. The college was named after John Henry Newman, a former Anglican and major figure in the Oxford Movement who became a Roman Catholic in the 19th century. Although most strongly affiliated with the University of Melbourne, a small number of undergraduate students attend RMIT University, Monash University's Parkville and City campuses, and the Australian Catholic University. The collegiate system was a response to the secular nature of the university, as each of the major Christian churches were given land to the north of the main campus to establish institutions in which to teach religion. The college motto is Luceat Lux Vestra, translating from Latin as "Let Your Light Shine". At its opening the administration of the college was entrusted to the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) who continue its administration to the present day. As of 2020, the rector of the college is Frank Brennan SJ , an Australian Jesuit priest, human rights lawyer and academic.
