American School of Classical Studies at Athens

The British School at Athens (BSA) (Greek: Βρετανική Σχολή Αθηνών) is an institute for advanced research, one of the eight British International Research Institutes supported by the British Academy, that promotes the study of Greece in all its aspects. Under UK law it is a registered educational charity, which translates to a non-profit organisation in American and Greek law. It also is one of the 19 Foreign Archaeological Institutes defined by Hellenic Law No. 3028/2002, "On the Protection of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage in General," passed by the Greek Parliament in 2002. Under that law the 17 accredited foreign institutes may perform systematic excavation in Greece with the permission of the government. The School was founded in 1886 as the fourth such institution in Greece (the earlier being the French, German, and American). For most of its existence, it focused on supporting, directing and facilitating British-based research in Classical Studies and Archaeology, but in recent years, it has broadened that focus to all areas of Greek Studies. It has made notable contributions in the fields of epigraphy and the history of Modern Greece. It is defined by Hellenic law to be a "foreign archaeological school" with a very specific meaning. In addition to being trusted with antiquities in Greece, it serves as an agent for the Hellenic utilisation of British resources in Greece. Only the BSA can assign projects to British institutions, and it may only do so with permission of the Minister of Culture.The BSA's activities include a regular programme of lectures and seminars, a series of scholarships and bursaries, Athens-based courses for undergraduates, postgraduates and teachers, as well as archaeological fieldwork. The Directors, who have included many distinguished figures, have tended to be in Greece for only part of the year, keeping roles in the UK or elsewhere.

The Gennadius Library (Greek: Γεννάδειος Βιβλιοθήκη), also known as the Gennadeion, is one of the most important libraries in Greece, with over 110,000 volumes on Greek history, literature and art from Antiquity until modern times. The library is located at Souidias Street 61, on the slopes of Mount Lycabettus, in central Athens. The library is one of the two belonging to the American School of Classical Studies at Athens (along with the Blegen Library).

The Monastery of the Holy Incorporeal Taxiarchs (Άγιοι Ασώματοι Ταξιάρχες), commonly known as Petraki Monastery (Μονή Πετράκη, "Monastery of Petrakis"), is a Byzantine-era monastery in Kolonaki, Athens. It serves as the seat of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece. Although attested for the first time in Ottoman times, the monastery's katholikon, a cross-in-square church of the Constantinopolitan type, dates to the 10th century. It is first attested in the Ottoman period as a stauropegic monastery and a metochion of the Karea Monastery on Mount Hymettus. It was also known as tou Koukoupoule (τοῦ Κουκουπουλῆ), but received its current popular name in 1673, following its renovation by Parthenios Petrakis.

Athens General Hospital 'Evangelismos' (Greek: Γενικό Νοσοκομείο Αθηνών «Ο Ευαγγελισμός») is one of the largest public hospitals in Greece. It is located in a sub-neighbourhood of Kolonaki named after it, Evangelismos. Construction of the building began on 25 March 1881 (architect Gerasimos Metaxas) and was finished exactly three years later on 25 March 1884, when it opened to the public on 16 April. Until 1983, the hospital was run as a charitable organization, but in that year it was nationalized and became part of the public health system.The nearby Athens Metro station Evangelismos is named after it.

Evangelismos (Greek: Ευαγγελισμός pronounced [e.va.ŋɟe.liˈzmos]) is a small neighborhood of Athens, Greece, named after Evangelismos Hospital. It is located within Kolonaki. The area is served by the a metro station of the same name on Line 3 of the Athens metro.

Upper Ancyle or Ankyle Kathyperthen (Ancient Greek: Ἀγκυλή καθύπερθεν) was the name of a deme of ancient Attica. It was located east of Athens and bordering Agryle to the south. Upper Ancyle passed from the phyle Aigeis to Antigonis in 307/306 BCE; Lower Ancyle remained in the Aigeis phyle.In the 3rd century, in Roman times, the demoi were home to rich landed properties. Their name derives from the Greek name for "javelin" (which was thrown with a rope). The same root also appears in an epithet attributed to Cronus and to Prometheus, "of sharp wits". The site of Lower Ancyle is located northeast of modern Ardettos.

Evangelismos station is located on Vasilissis Sofias Avenue. It is in Evangelismos area, close to Evangelismos Hospital, the National Gallery of Athens, the Athens War Museum, the Byzantine & Christian Museum and the Athens Hilton. The station serves both Kolonaki and Pangrati neighbourhoods, known for their cultural hubs, shopping centers and cafes. Furthermore, many embassies and companies are located within close proximity. This station was inaugurated in 2000.

The Athens Naval Hospital (Greek: Ναυτικό Νοσοκομείο Αθήνων, ΝΝΑ) is the largest Navy hospital in Greece. It is situated at the foothill of Lycabettus Hill, at Dinokratous 70 in Central Athens. Construction started in 1948, but it became operational in 1955, and was renovated and enlarged in 1995.

The Embassy of Argentina in Athens (Spanish: Embajada de la República Argentina en Atenas; Greek: Πρεσβεία της Αργεντινής Δημοκρατίας) is Argentina's foreign mission in Greece. It is located at 59 Vasilissis Sofias Avenue in Athens, the Greek capital.

The National Gallery (Greek: Εθνική Πινακοθήκη, Ethniki Pinakothiki) is an art museum located on Vasilissis Sofias avenue in the Pangrati district, Athens, Greece. It is devoted to Greek and European art from the 14th century to the 20th century. The newly renovated building reopened after an 8 year refurbishment, on 24 March 2021, a day before the 200th anniversary of the Greek War of Independence.

The Lycabettus Funicular is a funicular railway to the top of Mount Lycabettus in the Greek capital city of Athens. It was constructed in the 1960s by the Greek Tourist Organisation (EOT) and was inaugurated on April 18, 1965. The terminal stations are situated at Aristippou street, in Kolonaki, and the Chapel of St. George, near the top of the hill. Between the terminal stations, the line is entirely in tunnel. In 2002 extensive refurbishment was carried out, involving replacement of the motor, of the hydraulic brake unit, of the electronics safety systems, of the control room and of the two cars of the funicular. The railway now runs daily services, with a capacity of about 400 persons per hour.

Megaro Moussikis (Greek: Μέγαρο Μουσικής, Megaro Mousikis, lit. 'Concert Hall') is a station on the Athens Metro, located just outside the Athens Concert Hall on Vassilissis Sophias Ave. The U.S. Embassy, as well as the hospitals "Alexandra", "Areteion", "NIMITS" and "Eginition", are close to the station.
