Beaminster Down

Weston Hill is a hill, 250 metres (820 ft) high, on the A 356, 1 kilometre west of Corscombe in the county of Dorset in southern England. It is located within the Dorset Downs. It is named after the hamlet of Weston to the northeast. The summit is marked by a trig point just north of the A 356, and there is a transmission mast about 100 metres to the northwest. To the east the terrain drops steeply towards Corscombe. To the southwest it descends gently to Beaminster Down before dropping sharply at Mintern's Hill towards Beaminster.

Chedington is a small village and civil parish in west Dorset, England, situated near the A356 road 4 miles (6.4 km) southeast of Crewkerne in Somerset. Dorset County Council estimate that in 2013 the population of the civil parish was 130. It is administered as part of Parrett and Axe Parish Council. The village lies between the headwaters of the River Parrett, to the north, and the River Axe to the south. The Parrett flows in a northerly direction to the Bristol Channel at Bridgwater, whilst the Axe flows south to the English Channel at Axmouth, thus locating Chedington on the watershed of England's South West Peninsula.

Holy Trinity Church is a former Church of England church in Beaminster, Dorset, England. The church was built in 1849–51 and made redundant in 1978. It is now a private residence known as Trefoil House.

Beaminster School is a co-educational secondary school and sixth form located in Beaminster in the English county of Dorset.It is a voluntary controlled Christian school administered by the Church of England Diocese of Salisbury and Dorset County Council. The school also has a specialism in technology, and was called Beaminster Technology College for a while. Beaminster School offers GCSEs, BTECs and NVQs courses as programmes of study for pupils, with some courses offered in conjunction with Kingston Maurward College. Beaminster Schools sixth form provision is offered in conjunction with the Sir John Colfox Academy in Bridport, and students in the sixth form have the option to study from a range of A Levels and further BTECs. Beaminster School received a 'Good' grade in its latest Ofsted report of November 2013.

Beaminster Rural District was a rural district in the administrative county of Dorset, England from 1894 to 1974, covering an area in the west of the county around the small town of Beaminster.

Beaminster ( BEM-in-stər) is a town and civil parish in Dorset, England, situated in the Dorset Council administrative area approximately 15 miles (24 km) northwest of the county town Dorchester. It is sited in a bowl-shaped valley near the source of the small River Brit. The 2013 mid-year estimate of the population of Beaminster parish is 3,100. Beaminster is the product of the Anglo-Saxon age, dating back to around the 7th century, when it was known as Bebingmynster, meaning the church of Bebbe although the date of origin of the town is unknown. The place name and historic evidence indicates that it was probably the site of a primary Saxon minster church and was at the centre of a large episcopal estate. These are likely to have acted as a focus for a settlement, but evidence of its formation is lacking.In its history Beaminster has been a centre of manufacture of linen and woollens, the raw materials for which were produced in the surrounding countryside. The town experienced three serious fires in the 17th and 18th centuries; the first of these, during the English Civil War, almost destroyed the fabric of the town. Beaminster parish church is notable for its architecture, particularly its tower.

Toller Down is one of the highest hills in the county of Dorset, England. It stands 252 metres (827 feet) high and is just 200 metres west of the main A356 road from Dorchester to Crewkerne. It is part of the Dorset Downs. Its prominence of just under 100 metres classifies it as a sub-HuMP.The summit is about 2 kilometres south of the village of Corscombe.There are standing stones (the Hore Stones) just north of the summit by the junction of the A356 with a minor road.

Corscombe is a village and civil parish in the English county of Dorset, in the Dorset Council administrative area. The parish includes the small settlements of Benville and Toller Whelme to the south and in the 2011 census had a population of 445.Corscombe village is sited "into hollows and along sunken lanes" on the northern scarp slope of the Dorset Downs, approximately 8 miles (13 km) south-south-west from the town of Yeovil in Somerset. Evidence of early human occupation within the parish includes lynchets and, south of the village, three standing stones.On the higher ground in the village stands the 15th-century parish church of St. Mary, which was restored in 1875–7. In 1905 Sir Frederick Treves described the church as a "handsome building" with an "exceedingly fine" situation. Nearby Corscombe Court dates from the 13th century and is partially surrounded by a moat. It has a 15th-century tithe barn which was once used by the monks of Sherborne Abbey.About 2 kilometres to the south of Corscombe village, across the A356, is Toller Down, one of the highest hills in Dorset, with good views of the surrounding countryside. The musician Polly Jean Harvey is a former resident.

All Saints' Church is a private church, formerly belonging to the Church of England, in Mapperton, Dorset, England. The church is believed to have 12th century origins, with later additions and rebuilds. It became part of the estate of Mapperton House in 1977 and is a Grade I listed building.
