Cooke's Building

Oxford Chambers is a Grade II listed building located on Abbey Road in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. Oxford Chambers was constructed in 1875 with the intention of it functioning as a commercial property, however the new town's first higher grades school opened within the building in 1880. The school relocated to a larger premises on Duke Street in 1889. A notable feature of the building is a sign reading 'Central Cigar Depot', it also housed a shop selling office supplies in the late 20th century. Despite this, it is most known for containing the extension of the adjacent Travellers Rest social club (which was in turn demolished in 2011). Oxford Chambers lies at the very northern perimeter of the Central Barrow conservation area close to The Duke of Edinburgh Hotel and the neighbouring Cooke's Building.

The Co-operative Building on Abbey Road in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England is a former department store. Constructed by the Barrow Co-operative Society in 1889 and expanded in 1902 it served as the town's largest such shop up until closure in 1996. Pub operator Wetherspoon opened a venue in the ground floor of the former Co-op Building in 1998 named after the Furness Railway and in 2015 converted the vacant upper floors of the building into a 52-bedroom hotel.

The Ritz (later known as the ABC, Astra and Apollo) was a cinema located at the junction of Abbey Road and Holker Street in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. The building was designed in a typical Art Deco-style by architect firm Drury & Gomersall and constructed in 1936 on a previously undeveloped site. Between 1961 and 1977 it was known simply as the ABC; after ABC Cinemas who took over ownership of the premises soon after completion. This changed to the Astra when the venue was bought by Hutchinson Leisure. In this period the cinema was completely refitted, adding two extra screens to the existing one. The largest of the screens seated 640 while the smaller two seated 260 each.In the last part of its functioning life the cinema was named the Apollo after again being purchased; by Apollo Leisure. 1999 saw the completion of Hollywood Park in Barrow and a 6-screen multiplex by Apollo Leisure. As a result, the redundant Apollo Cinema on Abbey Road closed down. Numerous proposals to conserve the building were presented, however a fire gutted the structure in the early 2000s scuppering any hope of redevelopment. Ultimately demolished in 2003, the site is now occupied by Emlyn Hughes House, a four-storey landmark office building.

Emlyn Hughes House is a landmark four storey office building located on the intersection of Abbey Road and Holker Street in Barrow-in-Furness, England. It is named after local footballer Emlyn Hughes who captained both Liverpool F.C. and the England national team, a statue of Hughes is also located outside of the building. Emlyn Hughes House replaces the Art Deco Ritz Cinema and was designed by Bowker Sadler architects and built by Capita Symonds for Barrow Borough Council. There was much speculation that the development would become a 'white elephant' because a year after completion in 2008 the whole building remained vacant. In April 2012, Glasgow-based Barrhead Travel opened their first office in England at Emlyn Hughes House. Barrhead Travel created offices and a call centre for their Cruise Direct business as well as a retail shop at ground floor level. In 2019 Furness Building Society relocated its headquarters to within the building.

The Duke of Edinburgh Hotel is a 4-star luxury hotel located on Abbey Road in Barrow-in-Furness, England. The building itself was built in 1871 and was granted grade II status in 1976. The hotel was built during a period of great economic growth in Barrow, the town was home to the largest steelworks in the world and one of the most important shipyards in the country. The Duke of Edinburgh Hotel soon became Barrow's most prestigious and attracted dignitaries and celebrities from across the world; some of the more notable examples being Charlie Chaplin, D. H. Lawrence and Cary Grant.In 2006 The Duke of Edinburgh Hotel was bought by C2 Investment who spent in excess of £2 million renovating the building inside and out. The hotel now includes 42 en-suite bedrooms, the 'Consort Bar and Grill' as well as a 300 capacity function room called the Regency Suite.

The Roxy Cinema (later known as the Odeon and the Classic) on Cavendish Street in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England is a former cinema, and one of only two remaining original cinema buildings in the town (the other being Salthouse Pavilion). Built in 1937 in the Streamline Moderne-style it replaced a late 19th-century theater also called the Roxy. The cinema was purchased by Odeon in 1943, and again by Classic Cinemas in 1967. Throughout its various forms, the cinema only had one screen, although it could seat up to 1,200 people. Its days as a cinema ended in 1976 when it was soon converted into a nightclub.The Champers nightclub closed in 1984 and the Roxy Cinema building lay vacant until 1991 when a new nightclub named Manhattans opened. Mahattans ultimately met a similar demise a decade on, although 2011 saw the rejuvenation of the Manhattans brand which reopened a venue within the building. An American themed restaurant/diner and bar 'Hollywood' is also located on the ground floor in the cinema's former foyer. Whilst in the basement 'Broadway' a popular weekend nightclub is located.

The Nan Tait Centre is a Grade II listed building located at Abbey Road in the Hindpool area of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England.Designed by architects Woodhouse and Willoughby it was built for the Barrow Corporation as the town's new Technical School. The foundation stone was laid on 26 May 1900 and the school was officially opened three years later on 25 August 1903. The Technical School narrowly escaped Luftwaffe bombing during World War II, although its close neighbour Christ Church was almost completely destroyed in April 1941.In 1970 the technical school was replaced by Thorncliffe School in Hawcoat. The result was neglected maintenance and the building fell into a near dilapidated state. Despite the situation, the building was ultimately redeveloped in the early 2000s at a cost of £4 million and was named in honour of Agnes "Nan" Tait (Mayor of the Borough of Barrow-in-Furness from 1959 to 1960). The Nan Tait centre is now multifunctional serving as a cultural, exhibition and arts centre as well as a general office building. The Barracudas carnival band, Dare Dance, Capita Symonds, Barrow Borough Sports Council and Barrow Register Office are all tenants of the centre.

Barrow-in-Furness is a railway station on the Cumbrian Coast Line and Furness Line, 85+1⁄2 miles (138 km) south-west of Carlisle and 34+3⁄4 miles (56 km) north-west of Lancaster, in the town of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains.

Ramsden Hall located at 48 Abbey Road in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England is a Grade II listed former public bath house. Funded by industrialist and local mayor Sir James Ramsden it was constructed in 1872 and was relatively small in comparison to other public baths in Barrow. Despite no longer serving its original purpose Ramsden Hall stands as the only remaining example of a 19th-century public bath in the town. For a period of its history, the building served as an annexe of the adjacent Technical School although at present it is occupied by offices of the Citizens Advice Bureau.

Abbey Road Working Men's Club (also known as Lord's Tavern and the House of Lords) is a partially destroyed Grade II listed building located at Abbey Road close to Ramsden Square in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. Design by architect Henry Darbishire it was completed in 1871 and extended in the early 20th century, notable features previously included an ornate hipped roof with multiple oval dormers and an engraving of the Borough Coat of Arms. During the building's lifetime it functioned as a social club and later public house. Abbey Road Working Men's Club was granted listed status in 1976. Enforcement action was taken on the building's owners in 2007 by the Planning Inspectorate to remove the national flag which had been painted on its windows in celebration of the 2006 FIFA World Cup. It was considered to be harmful to the appearance of both the listed building and wider Conservation Area in which it is located. On 11 January 2017 a fire gutted the building, entirely destroying its 20th century extension, the iconic roof and leaving an empty shell of an interior. The surviving walls are in a precarious condition and could be potentially demolished in their entirety.

Hindpool is an area and electoral ward of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. It is bordered by Barrow Island, Central Barrow, Ormsgill, Parkside and the Walney Channel, the local population stood at 5,851 in 2011. The ward covers the entire western half of the town centre and includes Barrow's main shopping district. Other local landmarks include the Furness College Channelside campus, the Dock Museum and the Main Public Library. Hindpool is also home to two stadia - Barrow Raiders' Craven Park and Barrow A.F.C.'s Holker Street.

Portland Walk is a shopping centre in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. Constructed in 1998 on the site of the former Forshaw Street, it was designed as a modern extension to Dalton Road; Barrow's principal shopping district. Barrow Indoor Market is also located adjacent to the southern entrance of the centre. Portland Walk has a total retail floor area of around 200,000 sq ft (19,000 m2) and contains over 30 stores and services. The complex is entirely open-air, however, there has been unsuccessful proposals to cover it with a roof. A 500-space multi-storey car park provides direct access to the centre. National retailers with a presence in Portland Walk are Boots, British Heart Foundation, Card Factory, Clarks, Clintons Cards, EE, Game, Goldsmiths, JD Sports New Look and Sports Direct.
