The siege of Deventer was a siege of the city of Deventer from 1 to 10 June 1591 during the Eighty Years' War by Dutch and English troops under Maurice of Nassau in an attempt to retake it from its Spanish garrison, commanded by Herman van den Bergh on behalf of the Spanish.

Deventer (Dutch: [ˈdeːvəntər] ; Sallands: Daeventer) is a city and municipality in the Salland historical region of the province of Overijssel, Netherlands. In 2020, Deventer had a population of 100,913. The city is largely situated on the east bank of the river IJssel, but it also has a small part of its territory on the west bank. In 2005 the municipality of Bathmen (with a population of about 5,000 people) was merged with Deventer as part of a national effort to reduce bureaucracy in the country . Deventer is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands. The place is mentioned in 9th-century sources from the Diocese of Utrecht. A charter from 877 AD mentions seven farmsteads in Daventre portu (the Deventer harbor). In 952 AD, Deventer is mentioned as a city in a gift certificate from King Otto I. After the place had acquired more and more rights and privileges over time, it received the municipal lands from Emperor Henry V in 1123. This is considered by historians to be the moment of Deventer obtaining the city rights by the inhabitants. The city has the oldest stone house, the oldest walking park and with the Athenaeum library also the oldest scientific library in the Netherlands.

Deventer is a railway station in Deventer, Netherlands. The station was opened on 5 August 1865 and is on the Apeldoorn–Deventer railway, Deventer–Almelo railway and the Arnhem–Leeuwarden railway. The train services are operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen.

The Mountain Church or Saint Nicholas Church (Dutch: Sint-Nicolaas- of Bergkerk) is a former place of worship in Deventer, Overijssel. This Romanesque basilica was built around 1209 and consecrated to Saint Nicholas. Centuries later it received some Late Gothic alterations. In 1580 the Dutch Reformed Church took the temple and renamed it the Mountain Church. In 1967 the church was disestablished and its property transferred to the Municipality of Deventer. The building is used as an exhibition center and concert hall. From 1991 until 2005, the church was used for temporary exhibitions by Museum de Fundatie.

De Adelaarshorst (Dutch: 'The Eagle's Nest' or 'the Eyrie', Dutch pronunciation: [də ˈʔaːdəlaːrsˌɦɔrst]) is a multi-use stadium in Deventer, Netherlands. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Go Ahead Eagles. The stadium is able to hold 10,400 people and was built in 1920. The stadium hosted a qualifying match for the 1974 FIFA World Cup between the Netherlands and Iceland (who were nominally hosting the match). The Dutch won the game 8–1.

The Schipbeek is a tributary of the IJssel in the Netherlands and a continuation of the Buurserbeek. It flows into the IJssel near Deventer. The real source of the Schipbeek is in Germany - in western Northrhine-Westphalia - in the Ahauser Aa, to which the Alstätter Aa, the Buurserbeek and finally the Schipbeek are connected.

Epse is a village in the municipality of Lochem, province of Gelderland, Netherlands. It lies south of the A1 motorway and north of Gorssel, which was a separate municipality encompassing Epse until 2005, when it was merged with Lochem. In 2021, the village had a population of 2,069. The Dutch Reformed Church at its centre was built in 1930.
