Tyrone, Kentucky

The Tyrone Generating Station was a coal-fired power plant owned and operated by Kentucky Utilities near Versailles, Kentucky. It is located 15 miles west of Lexington, Kentucky. It was retired in 2016 and demolished in 2019.According to Kentucky Utilities, the plant's owner's website, it was retired in 2013.

Young's High Bridge is a former railroad bridge near Tyrone, Kentucky, USA, that spans the Kentucky River between Anderson County, Kentucky and Woodford County, Kentucky for the Louisville Southern Railroad. The cantilever bridge, named in honor of William Bennett Henderson Young, was constructed in 1889, and the first train crossed over on August 24, 1889. The bridge is 1,659 feet in length, is 283 feet above the river, and includes a 551 foot long cantilever span.The bridge formerly carried traffic on the Lexington to Lawrenceburg Division of the Southern Railway. The last passenger train crossed the bridge on December 27, 1937. It remained in use for freight traffic, which had dwindled by the late 1970s, and the last train to cross the bridge was in November 1985, after which the line was abandoned by the Norfolk Southern Railway. It is a contributing structure in the Lexington Extension of the Louisville Southern Railroad, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In February 2013, the bridge was sold to Young's Bridge Partners LLC, who operates a bungee jumping platform on the bridge on behalf of Vertigo Bungee. An adjacent section of the railway line is owned by Bluegrass Railroad and Museum, which runs excursion trains to the eastern end of the bridge.

Wild Turkey is a brand of Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey distilled and bottled by the Wild Turkey Distillery, owned by the Campari Group. The distillery is located near Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. It offers tours and is part of the American Whiskey Trail and the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

The Lexington Extension of the Louisville Southern Railroad, in Anderson and Woodford counties near Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.The listing included the no-longer-actively-used portion, about 8.25 miles (13.28 km), of the 22 miles (35 km) Lexington Extension, which was built in 1889 by the Louisville Southern Railroad. The listing included seven contributing structures. This portion is between Lawrenceburg and Versailles and includes the Young's High Bridge and the Cedar Brook Viaduct, as well as three wooden trestle bridges.

The Thomas H. Hanks House, which was located at 516 E. Woodford St. in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, was a Greek Revival-style house built in 1858. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.It was a two-story three-bay structure.Demolished c.1982. Mantle shown in photos 4 & 5 was consigned to an antique dealer in Danville, Kentucky. Disposition unknown.

Ripyville is a ghost town in Anderson County, in the U.S. state of Kentucky.A post office was established at Ripyville in 1867, and remained in operation until 1905. The community was named for John Ripy, an early merchant.

The Dowling House, at 321 S. Main St. in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, was built in 1886. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.It is a two-and-a-half-story west-facing brick house, with a three-story central pavilion. It was modified in 1915 and after 1930 and has elements of Italianate and Queen Anne architecture.The listing included a second contributing building, a carriage house.

The T.B. Ripy House is a house on the National Register of Historic Places listings in Anderson County, Kentucky, located in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. It was completed in 1888. Thomas Beebe Ripy (1847-1902) operated a distillery in nearby Tyrone, Kentucky that later spawned the Wild Turkey brand. The family sold the house in 1965, and it was placed on National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Descendants of Ripy repurchased the house in 2010 with the intent of repairing it.Currently, the house is a local community resource within Lawrenceburg, KY, which is available for rent for small intimate social events including bourbon and whiskey tasting events, weddings, showers, reunions, and small music events.

The Confederate Monument in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky is an 8-foot-tall (2.4 m) carved granite figure on a granite pedestal which was built in 1894 by the Kentucky Women's Monumental Association, a predecessor of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, an organization founded in that year. Its governing body is the government of Lawrenceburg.It shows a Confederate soldier dressed in a winter coat with a rifle held vertically before him. Around the pedestal of the monument may be found the names of the Confederate regiments raised in Anderson County and a list of those men wounded or killed during the war.There were a few Civil War skirmishes at Lawrenceburg, The Battle of Lawrenceburg and the Battle of Dog Walk, just before the Battle of Perryville in October 1862. In particular, the Union Ninth Kentucky Cavalry fought the Confederate cavalry under Colonel Scott on October 6, 1862. Confederate troops that would control Frankfort had marched through the town. In later years, the local area saw guerrilla warfare, which force the creation of a Union Home Guard unit in the town.On July 17, 1997, the Lawrenceburg Confederate Monument was one of sixty different monuments related to the Civil War in Kentucky placed on the National Register of Historic Places, as part of the Civil War Monuments of Kentucky Multiple Property Submission. It is one of ten monuments of soldiers in the Multiple Property Submission on a courthouse lawnThe Kentucky Women's Monumental Association was a predecessor of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, an organization founded in 1894. The Kentucky association was one of a number formed to honor "the dead of those who fought for the Southern cause", addressing "the specter of death hung over the South."The United Daughters of the Confederacy, a unified association that was a successor, actually was named National Association of the Daughters of the Confederacy from 1894 to 1895. It is directly credited with 15 monuments now listed on the U.S. National Register.In recent years the UDC has been in the news for winning a court case with Vanderbilt University over continued use of Confederate Memorial Hall as the name of a building financed by the UDC.

It is accredited by the Kentucky Non-Public Schools Commission, Inc. and the Association of Christian Schools International. CAL serves pre-K through 12th grade and has a total enrollment around 150.

Airy Mount, near Versailles, Kentucky, is a historic Georgian house dating from 1796. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.It is notable for its mural painted by French immigrant "Alfred Cohen, who left Marseilles, France, with two brothers in the 1820s and settled in Midway, in the northeast corner of Woodford County. The three houses concerned are the only ones known anywhere to have been painted with murals by Cohen, a primitive artist who had little, if any, formal training. Although these landscape scenes show disregard for correct scale and perspective, they possess charm through the artist's lack of inhibitions."It is a "substantial residence, built in several stages, .. located one mile north of McCowan's Ferry Road in rural Woodford County. Appropriately named, the house is situated on the summit of a low, wide rise, and has a commanding view of the gently rolling landscape in all directions. The earliest portion, constructed ca. 1796, includes the western three bays of the central two-story block."The other two houses with Cohen murals are Wyndehurst and Pleasant Lawn, both also NRHP-listed.

The Rev. William Dudley Moore House, in Anderson County, Kentucky near Lawrenceburg, was built in c.1848-50. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The listing included seven contributing buildings and two contributing structures.The main house is an I-house. It was "the lifelong home of the county's most well-known and most-beloved minister. During his long career spanning half a century, Brother Moore, as he chose to be called, performed 928 marriages, 1400 funerals, and over 1,000 baptisms. Architecturally, the Reverend Moore House is notable in being a frame "I" house-with-ell, unaltered since 1900. Along with the house is an amazingly intact complex of eleven outbuildings, all frame and all apparently of no later construction than 1900."
