Shaftesbury Square

Botanic railway station serves the Botanic area in south Belfast, Northern Ireland and students for Queen's University Belfast; it is also near Shaftesbury Square which is along Botanic Avenue. It is named after the nearby Belfast Botanic Gardens. It is one of the four stations located in the city centre, the others being City Hospital, Great Victoria Street, and Lanyon Place. The station opened on 26 April 1976 and is very close to City Hospital StationPassengers can alight here for the Ulster Museum, which is situated on the edge of Botanic Gardens.

The Crescent Arts Centre (or simply The Crescent) is an arts centre based in Belfast, Northern Ireland, founded in 1980. The centre hosts a wide range of arts and entertainment events, as well as classes in dance, music, verbal and visual arts, and community outreach programmes. Its facilities include a dance studio named after its late patron, the choreographer and Holocaust survivor Helen Lewis. The centre is home to the annual June Belfast Book Festival.The Crescent is housed in the former Victoria College on University Road in the Queens Conservation Area. The current patron of the centre is Paul Muldoon.

Shaftesbury Square Hospital was a health facility in Great Victoria Street, Belfast, Northern Ireland. It was managed by the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.

The Golden Mile is the name given to the stretch of Dublin Road, Great Victoria Street, Bradbury Place and University Road between the City Hall and the university area in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Both the Crown Liquor Saloon and the Grand Opera House are on this stretch of road, as are a large number of pubs, bars and restaurants. The area is flanked on either side by working class areas. Donegall Road and Sandy Row lie to the west and Donegall Pass to the east. The area contains around 80% of the city centre's bars, clubs, restaurants, cinemas and theatres with the Cathedral Quarter and Laganside also popular.

The Aurora building was a proposed construction project that was not granted planning permission. If built at the proposed height of 109 metres, 37 storeys, it would have been the tallest building on the island of Ireland. The proposed location of the Belfast tower was on the corner of Great Victoria and Ventry Street (the site formerly home to the city centre's last petrol station). Great Victoria Street also fronts other notable buildings in Belfast such as the Grand Opera House, the Europa Hotel and The Crown Liquor Saloon.The development was proposed to contain almost 300 apartments and 7,000 square feet (700 m2) of commercial space. The contractors involved in the development were McAlister Holdings, Strategic Planning and HKR Architects.Planning permission was refused, and a subsequent appeal was withdrawn in February 2011. A receiver was appointed to the Aurora site on the instruction of Anglo Irish Bank on 27 January 2011, the same day it placed two other McAlister sites into receivership. Those two sites, at Greenhall Highway in Coleraine and Dunlady Road in Dundonald, were the property of McAlister Construction Ltd.

Elmwood Hall is a concert hall and former Presbyterian Church on University Road in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It is situated opposite Queen's University Belfast.

The Brian Friel Theatre is a studio theatre located at Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland. It was opened in February 2009 and is named after the Irish playwright, theatre director and author, Brian Friel.The Theatre is part of the University's School of Languages, Literature and Performing Arts and the Brian Friel Centre for Theatre Research. It provides space for student drama teaching, rehearsals and performances and hosts both student and professional performances and events such as the Belfast International Arts Festival. The Brian Friel Theatre is located on University Square and shares its building with the Queen's Film Theatre.

Queen's Quarter (also known as the University Quarter) is the southernmost quarter in Belfast, Northern Ireland and named after Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland's largest university. The Quarter is centred on the Lanyon Building, the University's most prominent building, designed by architect Sir Charles Lanyon, while Botanic Avenue, Stranmillis Road, University Road and Malone Road are the main thoroughfares through the area. The Quarter encompasses a region bounded by the Ormeau Road, the Holylands and Stranmillis Embankment to the east and the Lisburn Road to the west.

The Queen's Film Theatre or QFT is an independent cinema at Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland founded in 1968. When first opened, the Queen’s Film Theatre focused mainly on art house, indie and world cinema, playing an important role in the cultural life of Belfast, serving as an important venue for events such as the Belfast Festival at Queen's, the Belfast Film Festival and the CineMagic Festival. The QFT is located on University Square and shares the building with the Brian Friel Theatre opened in February 2009 and used for student drama teaching, rehearsals and performances. The cinema has two screens with 204 and 91 seats respectively and is also the only cinema in Northern Ireland to have a licensed bar. The QFT is part of the Europa Cinemas network containing more than 1,000 cinemas in 60 countries.

The Naughton Gallery at Queen's, also known as The Naughton Gallery, is an art gallery and museum at Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland. Opened in 2001, the gallery is named after its benefactors, Martin and Carmel Naughton, who donated £500,000 to the university in 2002. Located on the first floor of the Queen's University's Lanyon building, the gallery displays six exhibitions per year presenting local and international contemporary artists. Among the talks and events organised in conjunction with the exhibitions, the Naughton Gallery occasionally organises screenings with the Queen's Film Theatre, which is also a cultural institution under the auspices of Queen's University.

Sandy Row (Irish: Rae na Gainmhe) is a large inner city estate in south Belfast, Northern Ireland. It lends its name to the surrounding residential community, which is predominantly Protestant working-class. The Sandy Row area had a population of 2,153 in 2001; in 2018, the population was estimated to be around 4,000. It is a staunchly loyalist area of Belfast, being a traditional heartland for affiliation with the paramilitary Ulster Defence Association (UDA) and the Orange Order.

The Queen's University of Belfast, commonly known as Queen's University Belfast (Irish: Ollscoil na Banríona; abbreviated Queen's or QUB), is a public research university in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. The university received its charter in 1845 as "Queen's College, Belfast", and opened four years later. Queen's offers approximately 300 academic degree programmes at various levels. The current president and vice-chancellor is Ian Greer. The annual income of the institution for 2022–23 was £462.8 million, of which £103.1 million was from research grants and contracts, with an expenditure of £466.5 million.Queen's is a member of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the European University Association, Universities UK and Universities Ireland. The university is associated with two Nobel laureates and one Turing Award laureate.
