The Charles Wenner House is an historic house located near Galena, Illinois, in the United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. The house is significant for its connection to European settlers who arrived in the area in the mid-19th century to work the lead mines near Galena.The Wenner house had been vacant for thirty years by 1984, it had been used as a corn crib in 1954.

Rawlins Township is one of twenty-three townships in Jo Daviess County, Illinois, USA. As of the 2010 census, its population was 455 and it contained 189 housing units. It was formed as Grant Township from West Galena Township on July 12, 1887; its name changed to Rawlins Township on December 20, 1887 in honor of Galena resident John Aaron Rawlins.

The Henry W. Miller House is a historic house located at 11672 West Norris Lane in Galena, Illinois. Henry W. Miller, a flour wholesaler and dealer who played an important role in Galena's large flour-producing industry, had the house built between 1847 and 1850. The house was built on a plot of land overlooking the plank toll road that connected Galena to Dubuque, Iowa and Mineral Point, Wisconsin; the route, which is now part of U.S. Route 20, eventually became known for its collection of large, elaborate homes. Miller chose the popular Greek Revival style for his house; its design features sidelights and a transom around the front door, a door surround with pilasters and dentillation, and a symmetrical front with six-over-six windows. Richard Barrett, who owned the house in the 1870s, added its Italianate bay window.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 13, 2010.

Council Hill Township is one of twenty-three townships in Jo Daviess County, Illinois, USA. As of the 2010 census, its population was 141 and it contained 82 housing units. Its name changed from Scales Township on December 6, 1853.

Sinsinawa () is an unincorporated community in Grant County, Wisconsin, United States. The community is in the towns of Jamestown and Hazel Green, one mile north of the border with Illinois. The community is 7+1⁄2 miles (12.1 km) east of Dubuque, Iowa, and 6+1⁄2 miles (10.5 km) west of the village of Hazel Green, Wisconsin. The town is best known for being the mother house of the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters.

Galena High School is the public secondary school in Galena, Illinois, and is part of Galena Unit School District 120. As of 2019, GHS has roughly 240 students. Its current building was built in 1957.

The Congregation of the Most Holy Rosary of the Order of Preachers, better known as the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa is an American religious institute of the Regular, or religious branch of the Third Order of St. Dominic. It was founded in 1847. The General Motherhouse is located in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin.

The Sinsinawa Mound raid occurred on June 29, 1832, near the Sinsinawa mining settlement in Michigan Territory (present-day Grant County, Wisconsin in the United States). This incident, part of the Black Hawk War, resulted in the deaths of two men; a third man survived by seeking cover in a nearby blockhouse. In the aftermath of the raid, Captain James W. Stephenson set out to pursue the attackers—a straggling band of Sauk Native Americans—but lost their trail at the Mississippi River. The attack occurred in the same week as other skirmishes and raids, and as a result helped contribute to the growing fear in the region. The raid caused the residents of nearby Platteville to consider fleeing their settlement.

The Ulysses S. Grant Home in Galena, Illinois is the former home of Ulysses S. Grant, the Civil War general and later the 18th president of the United States. The home was designed by William Dennison and constructed in 1859 - 1860. The home was given to Grant by residents of Galena in 1865 as thanks for his war service, and has been maintained as a memorial to Grant since 1904.
