Ave Maria College is a Catholic secondary school for girls, established in 1963 by the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary (FMM). The college is located in Aberfeldie, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. This school is near to other Catholic high schools including St Columba's College and St Bernard's College. Renovations to the school property in the last ten years include the glass-roofed Piazza with a winter garden, canteen and classrooms, refurbishment of the science and technology departments and an upgrade to the school library, now known as the Education Resource Centre (ERC). In late 2015, the school finished its renovations and had added several new classrooms and art rooms. This included a new third level building with a rooftop garden that has a view of the surrounding areas.

The school was renamed as 'Niddrie Secondary College' and became co-educational in the early 1990s. Rosehill Secondary College is situated on the border of Essendon West and Niddrie and sits on a site elevated high above Steele Creek, with views over the Maribyrnong River Valley. The school is a single campus with students from Years 7 to 12. The enrolment in 2014 is 1140. Girls and boys are about equal in number. Rosehill SC has International Student accreditation. The college has a balance of experienced and younger staff with three Assistant Principals, each with a discrete area of responsibility. The College runs four, 75 minute periods per day and the school is divided into a Junior School (Years 7–9) and a Senior School (Years 10–12). In 2014, the Junior School has 650 students and the Senior School 490. All students in Years 7–9 study Math, Science and English and choose six elective subjects from Languages (Japanese or Italian), The Arts, Physical Education and Health, Humanities and Technology; also, Literacy and Numeracy Enhancement studies. All Year 10 students study English and Math (differentiated groupings), and eight electives from the KLAs and VCE subjects; also, an interdisciplinary unit on health, drug education, driver education, and Pathways into VCE and beyond. Students in Years 11 and 12 select a VCE or VCAL pathway, with the school offering careers and further education pathways to all its students. The College employs consultants and coaches in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy and has worked closely with a network of schools in the development of the Science Curriculum as well as the more effective use of digital technologies as an instructional and learning tool. The school also provides four enrichment programs. These consist of: the Selective Talent Enrichment Program (S.T.E.P.), which provides advancement in the areas of English, Science and Mathematics, the Rosehill Accelerated Mathematics Program (R.A.M.P.), the Rosehill English Accelerated Program (R.E.A.P.) and the Victorian High-Ability Program (V.H.A.P.).

On 21 February 2017, at 8:59 am local time, a Beechcraft B200 King Air aircraft operating a charter flight, carrying a pilot and four passengers bound for King Island, crashed seconds after taking off from Essendon Airport in Melbourne, Australia.Four American passengers and the Australian pilot died in the crash.

It is also part of Edmund Rice Education Australia, a series of schools that focus on teaching the pupils in the tradition of Edmund Rice.

Aberfeldie Park is a cricket ground in Essendon, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. It is the home of the Aberfeldie Park Cricket Club, and hosted several Rose Bowl series Women's One Day International cricket matches during the winter of 1984–85.Aberfeldie Park has won the VTCA ground of the year in the 2001/2 season as well as being awarded curator of the year in the 2014/15 season. Aberfeldie Park Cricket Club also produced Paul Hibbert who played one test for Australia in the 1977–78 season.

Essendon Fields is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 11 km (6.8 mi) north-west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Moonee Valley local government area. Essendon Fields recorded no population at the 2021 census.Essendon Fields comprises the Essendon Airport and surrounding commercial areas. The suburb was formally gazetted on 14 August 2008 under the Geographic Place Names Act.On 21 February 2017 just before 9am, a Beechcraft Super King Air on a passenger charter flight bound for King Island, Tasmania crashed into the nearby DFO Essendon shopping centre shortly after takeoff from nearby Essendon Airport. All 5 people aboard the flight were killed. As the shopping centre had not opened yet, only staff were at the centre, all of whom were accounted for. The incident was the worst aviation accident in Victoria for 30 years.
