Bucksport, Maine

The Jed Prouty Tavern and Inn is an historic building at 57 Main Street in downtown Bucksport, Hancock County, Maine. It was built around 1780 as a two family home and was converted into a tavern and inn around 1820. In this guise it hosted prominent national figures, including Daniel Webster and Presidents Martin Van Buren and William Henry Harrison. After standing largely vacant in the later 20th century, the building was converted an assisted living facility, and presently serves as a community senior center. it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The Buck Memorial Library is the public library of Bucksport, Maine. It is located at 47 Maine Street in the center of the town, in an architecturally distinguished Gothic Revival stone structure designed by George A. Clough and built in 1887. The building was a gift from the family of Richard Buck, a descendant of Bucksport founder Jonathan Buck, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

The Phineas Heywood House is a historic house at 343 Maine Street in the center of Bucksport, Maine. Built c. 1824, it is one of the finest Federal style brick houses in the region, and was probably the first brick building erected in Bucksport and its surrounding towns. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

The Elm Street Congregational Church and Parish House is a historic church complex at Elm and Franklin Streets in Bucksport, Maine. It includes a Greek Revival church building, built in 1838 to a design by Benjamin S. Deane, and an 1867 Second Empire parish house. The church congregation was founded in 1803; its present pastor is the Rev. Stephen York. The church and parish house were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Bucksport High School is a public high school in Bucksport, Maine, United States. It is part of Regional School Unit (RSU) 25. Between 350 and 400 students study at Bucksport High School. It also provides a satellite program on campus for Hancock County Technical Center.

The James Emery House, also known as Linwood Cottage, is a historic house on Main Street in Bucksport, Maine. An architecturally eclectic mix of Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, and Italianate styling, the house was built c. 1855 on a site overlooking the Penobscot River. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974 for its architectural significance.

Bucksport is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Bucksport in Hancock County, Maine, United States. The population was 2,885 at the 2010 census, down from 2,970 at the 2000 census.

The Bucksport Railroad Station is a historic railroad station on Main Street in Bucksport, Maine. The station was built in 1874 by the European and North American Railway, and is one of a small number of surviving rural railroad stations in Maine. It is now home to the Bucksport Historical Society Museum. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

The Brown-Pilsbury Double House is a historic two-family house at 188–190 Franklin Street in Bucksport, Maine, United States. Built c. 1808, it is an architecturally distinctive and regionally rare example of an early 19th-century wood frame duplex. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

Wilson Hall is a historic Methodist seminary building on Franklin Street in Bucksport, Maine. Built in 1850-51 by the Eastern Maine Methodist Conference, it housed East Maine Conference Seminary, which was the only Methodist seminary in eastern Maine, and was the only seminary in Hancock County. Of the two surviving buildings of the seminary, this is the finest, a handsome Greek Revival structure that is a distinctive local landmark. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The East Maine Conference Seminary was a Methodist seminary and preparatory school in Bucksport, Maine. Located on Wilson Street in Bucksport, it educated students from 1848 to 1933. A building built and used by EMCS, Wilson Hall, is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Fort Knox, now Fort Knox State Park or Fort Knox State Historic Site, is located on the western bank of the Penobscot River in the town of Prospect, Maine, about 5 miles (8.0 km) from the mouth of the river. Built between 1844 and 1869, it was the first fort in Maine built entirely of granite; most previous forts used wood, earth, and stone. It is named after Major General Henry Knox, the first U.S. Secretary of War and Commander of Artillery during the American Revolutionary War, who at the end of his life lived not far away in Thomaston. As a virtually intact example of a mid-19th century granite coastal fortification, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1969 and declared a National Historic Landmark on December 30, 1970. Fort Knox also serves as the entry site for the observation tower of the Penobscot Narrows Bridge that opened to the public in 2007.
