Marske railway station

Marske United Football Club is a football club based in Marske-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire, England. They last competed in the Northern Premier League Premier Division and play at Mount Pleasant.

Marske-by-the-Sea is a village in the unitary authority of Redcar and Cleveland and the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire, England. It is located on the coast, between the seaside resorts of Redcar and Saltburn-by-the-Sea, although it is not itself a seaside resort. Marske is in the civil parish of Saltburn, Marske and New Marske and comprises the wards of Longbeck (shared with New Marske) and St Germains.

Marske Hall is a 17th-century former mansion house, now a Valorum Care Group residential care home, in Marske-by-the-Sea, Redcar and Cleveland, England. It has Grade I listed building status. The building is constructed of squared stone in two storeys to an E-shaped plan with tiled roofs and a nine bay frontage which incorporates two three storey turrets. The facade, which twice incorporates the arms of the Pennyman family, is little changed to this day.

Saltburn, Marske and New Marske is a civil parish in the Redcar and Cleveland district, in the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 18,325 increasing to 19,134 at the 2011 census. As its name suggests, the parish includes Saltburn, Marske-by-the-Sea and New Marske. It borders the parishes of Skelton and Brotton, Guisborough and the unparished area of Redcar. In parliamentary terms, the parish is split between the constituencies of Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, and Redcar.

Outwood Academy Bydales (formerly Bydales School) is a mixed secondary school with academy status in Marske-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire, England. It has a comprehensive admissions policy and in 2019 had an enrolment of 839 pupils.The school is operated by Outwood Grange Academies Trust, and the current principal is Robert McGreal.

St Germain's Churchyard is a large cemetery overlooking the North Sea at Marske-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire, England. Its church tower is a grade II listed structure at the midpoint to the yard and a landmark for sailors out on the sea. It is a remnant of a demolished church, services at St Germain's were replaced in 1876 by St Mark's.

Longbeck is a railway station on the Tees Valley Line, which runs between Bishop Auckland and Saltburn via Darlington. The station, situated 10 miles 28 chains (16.7 km) east of Middlesbrough, serves the village of Marske-by-the-Sea, Redcar and Cleveland in North Yorkshire, England. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains.

Redcar and Cleveland is a unitary authority area with borough status in North Yorkshire, England. The borough was created in 1974 as Langbaurgh, and was one of four boroughs in the non-metropolitan county of Cleveland. It was renamed Langbaurgh-on-Tees in 1988, and given its present name when Cleveland was abolished in 1996; the borough was made a unitary authority in the same year. Redcar and Cleveland is part of the Tees Valley combined authority, which also includes the boroughs of Darlington, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool and Stockton-on-Tees; the latter three were also formerly in Cleveland. Its main settlement is the town of Redcar. Other notable towns and villages include South Bank, Eston, Brotton, Guisborough, Greater Eston, Loftus, Saltburn-by-the-Sea and Skelton. The borough had a population of 135,200 in 2011.

Langbaurgh was a liberty or wapentake of the North Riding of Yorkshire. It covered an area of the shire's north-eastern tip. The wapentake took its name from Langbaurgh hamlet, in present-day Great Ayton parish.The name was re-used for the non-metropolitan district of Langbaurgh, later Langbaurgh-on-Tees, created in 1974, which covered the area of the eastern division. It has been known since 1996 as the unitary authority of Redcar and Cleveland.

Marske Aerodrome was a First World War-era airfield used by the Royal Flying Corps, and later by the Royal Air Force, between 1917 and 1920. The aerodrome was just to the west of the village of Marske-by-the-Sea in Yorkshire (North Yorkshire), England. Marske aerodrome hosted air gunnery schools and trained pilots in tactics and methods of aerial combat so that they could be deployed to the front. Marske is known for being the aerodrome where W. E. Johns, author of the Biggles books, undertook his training, as well as being noted for some of the flying instructors who were famous among the aircrew cadre.

Upleatham is a village in the civil parish of Guisborough, in the unitary authority area of Redcar and Cleveland and the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire, England. The village was mentioned in the Domesday Book and the name derives from Old English and Old Norse as Upper Slope, in that it was further up the hill than Kirkleatham.In 1951 the parish had a population of 121. On 1 April 1974 the parish was abolished and merged with Guisborough.An ironstone seam that was 13 feet (4.0 m) thick was worked beneath the village which meant that some dwellings were lost to subsidence. The mine operated between the 1850s and 1924 with reserves of ironstone being estimated at a little over 36,000,000 tonnes (40,000,000 tons). The landowner of the time, the Earl of Zetland, allowed the mining company to extract the ironstone from underneath the village provided that the area around the church was left undisturbed. This is why the conservation area in the village is just a small selection of buildings clustered around the church. The arrival of the ironstone mine increased the population of the village from 204 in 1841 to 1,007 in 1861.It has a small grade II listed church, believed by some to be the smallest in England, although Bremilham Church in Wiltshire is actually slightly smaller. The village is located near New Marske, between Saltburn and Guisborough; there are a few rows of houses which are adjacent to Errington Woods.

New Marske is a village in the unitary authority of Redcar and Cleveland and the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire, England, in the region of North East England. Roughly a mile south-west of Marske-by-the-Sea and set on a hillside, it was originally a group of miners' terraced houses. 1966 saw the development of what was originally known as Errington Park Estate the development of which ended in 1984. New Marske has no railway station, but the closest, Longbeck railway station, links to Saltburn, Middlesbrough and Darlington. New Marske is situated near an area of woodland called Errington Woods, in which are the remains of disused mine workings. There are several farms in the vicinity, and there is a primary school (first opened in the 1970s to replace the old school house) The recent building of housing on the old primary school site has meant that the other school of the village has been extended to cater for the new children and closing of the old school. This new housing reflects the rapid growth of villages in the area. There is a small row of shops known locally as the 'top shops' due to their position uphill from the older part of the village. This is generally considered the centre of the village. Another shop is located at the northern end of the village, along with one pub The Yorkshire Lass, a working mens club and a sports club that serve the surrounding area along with a Methodist church and a Church of England parish, St Thomas.The original mining settlement has recently been commemorated, in the way of a series of plaques placed at various locations, depicting events and scenes of life in the 19th century. Remnants of the mining era remain in the way of disused shafts in Errington Woods. Some have been filled in or covered over, but some are still accessible. New Marske is the birthplace of Johanna Jackson, the first British woman to win a major race walk title at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
