Metropolitan Borough of Hammersmith

Hammersmith was a civil parish in London, England, from 1834 to 1965. The hamlet of Hammersmith in the parish of Fulham had been governed by the Hammersmith Vestry following the construction of the chapel of St Paul's in 1629–1631. The Hammersmith Parish Act 1834 made formal the separation from Fulham. The parish was recombined with Fulham as the Fulham District for civil purposes from 1855 to 1886 and for the New Poor Law from 1845 to 1889. In 1900 the parish was superseded for local government by the Metropolitan Borough of Hammersmith. The parish continued to be used for election of boards of guardians until 1930 and was abolished in 1965. Its former area now forms the northern part of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.

Hammersmith Town Hall is a municipal building on King Street in Hammersmith. The town hall, which is the headquarters of Hammersmith and Fulham London Borough Council, is a Grade II listed building.

Sussex House is a Grade II* listed house at 12–14 Upper Mall, Hammersmith, London W6 9TA.It is just south of the Great West Road, and was built in about 1726.This building is listed under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 as amended for its special architectural or historic interest, since 1985.The house features an old brick boundary wall on the north and east sides.

Stamford Brook was a tributary of the Tideway stretch of the River Thames in west London supplied by three headwaters. Historically used as an irrigation ditch or dyke the network of small watercourses had four lower courses and mouths.

The Dove is a Grade II listed public house at 19 Upper Mall, Hammersmith, London W6 9TA.

The Hampshire is a pub at 227 King Street, Hammersmith, London. The Hampshire, formerly The Hampshire Hog was first licensed in the 17th century as The Hogs, a name based on that of the members of the Royal Hampshire Regiment. The current building was owned by Sich's Chiswick Brewery, and they rebuilt it in 1883. The road running along the west side is Hampshire Hog Lane, and 17th century Hampshire House and Hampshire Cottage, both since demolished, were close by.Before the take over of The Hampshire Hog in 2012, the owners had previously run the Engineer in Primrose Hill, one of the first gastropubs in London. They continued this legacy through The Hampshire Hog and ran it as a gastropub. In July 2020, the pub was rebranded as an Indian Restaurant under the updated name 'The Hampshire'.

Hammersmith Creek was an outflow river of the Stamford Brook, and used to run through what is now King Street, into the Thames at the present-day site of Furnivall Gardens in Hammersmith.Until the early 19th century the creek was navigable over this distance, and was the scene of much industry with malt houses and boatbuilders along the banks, as well as being a route for cargo transportation.However, by the early 20th century the creek was no longer the site of such activity, and it was filled in 1936 with Furnivall Gardens being built on the location in 1951. Today, only a small drainage tunnel visible over the wall at Furnivall Gardens remains as evidence of Hammersmith Creek.

Purfleet Rifle Range was a railway station on the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway. It was opened for military use in 1911 and public use in 1921 and closed in 1948. It was located between Purfleet and Rainham railway stations.

Furnival Gardens (also spelt Furnivall Gardens) is a park in Hammersmith alongside the river Thames. It was once the location of the mouth of Hammersmith Creek, which had an active fishing trade until about 200 years ago. The creek was filled in during 1936.In 1948, it was decided that there should be a public open space on bomb-damaged land between the river and the Great West Road, to coincide with the 1951 Festival of Britain. The new riverside park was named after the scholar Dr Frederick James Furnivall, who founded what is now the Furnivall Sculling Club in 1896. A garden area was created on what had been the Hammersmith Friends Meeting House burial ground, destroyed by a flying bomb in the war.In 1963, a street lamp that had formerly been in West Berlin was given by Willy Brandt, then Mayor of West Berlin, to mark Hammersmith's twinning with the Berlin (previously West Berlin) district of Neukölln. It now stands on the wall of Westcott Lodge, facing the gardens. Below it is a plaque which reads: "The lamp above this plaque was formerly used to light a street in West Berlin. It was presented by Herr Willi Brandt, Mayor of West Berlin to Councillor Stanley Atkins, L. P., The Worshipful the Mayor of Hammersmith, as a token of friendship between the two communities on the occasion of the Jumelage held in this Borough, 1st June 1963."

Kelmscott House is Grade II* listed Georgian brick mansion at 26 Upper Mall in Hammersmith, overlooking the River Thames. Built in about 1785, it was the London home of English textile designer, artist, writer and socialist William Morris from 1878 to 1896.Originally called The Retreat, Morris renamed it after the Oxfordshire village of Kelmscott, where he had lived at Kelmscott Manor from June 1871. Nearby, Morris began his "adventure in printing" with his private press, the Kelmscott Press, which he started at 16 Upper Mall in 1891.

The Salutation Inn is a Grade II listed public house at 154 King Street, Hammersmith, London.It was built in 1910, and the architect was A.P. Killick.It is a Fuller's Brewery pub.

The Hope and Anchor is a Grade II listed public house at 20 Macbeth Street, Hammersmith, London.It is on the Campaign for Real Ale's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors.It was built in 1936 for Truman's Brewery, but the architect is not known. It is described by English Heritage as a "particularly fine and intact example of an inter-war pub in a Neo-Georgian style".As of 2012, it is closed and available to let.
