Beula, or Beulah, Pennsylvania was a town that existed between 1796 and 1804 in Cambria County, Pennsylvania, founded by Welsh Minister Morgan John Rhys. The original settlers under the guidance of Rhys had bought the land from Dr. Benjamin Rush, in search of a home in the countryside. They originally planned on settling in western Ohio, but it took too long to secure land in that region, so the Pennsylvania tract was settled upon. Two members of Rhys's party would go on to found Paddy's Run, Ohio. Rhys intended for Beula to be a cattle range. The Welsh were inspired to settle down in America by their religion -being Welsh Dissenters-, the politics of the era, and as well as the Prince Madoc myth, that a Welsh Prince had discovered America in the 1100s. It is one of the few ghost towns mentioned as a part of Pennsylvania's Ghost Town Trail.

The Staple Bend Tunnel, about 4 miles (6.4 km) east of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, in a town called Mineral Point, was constructed between 1831 and 1834 for the Allegheny Portage Railroad. Construction began on April 12, 1831. This tunnel, at 901 feet (275 m) in length, was the first railway tunnel constructed in the United States. It is rock-bored and stone-lined. Finished in June 1833, the Staple Bend Tunnel was advertised as the first railroad tunnel in the United States. It was the third tunnel of any kind built in the U.S.; the first two tunnels were for canals in Pennsylvania.

Berwind-White Mine 40 Historic District is a national historic district located at Richland Township and Scalp Level in Cambria County, Pennsylvania. The district includes 121 contributing buildings, 2 contributing sites, and 4 contributing structures. The district consists of a mine site and patch community associated with the Berwind-White Coal Mining Company's Eureka Mine No. 40, and developed between 1905 and the 1941. Notable buildings include over 100 two-story, frame miners' double housing, power house (c. 1906, 1929), drift openings, cleaning plant, motor barn (c. 1905, 1940s, 1970s), fan house, sand tank (c. 1928), railroad repair car shop (c. 1925-1930), and wash house (c. 1923, 1930, 1957).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.Most of the Eureka No. 40 coal mine complex, except for the power house, was demolished in 2011-12.
