Tiruchirappalli district

The Trichinopoly district was a district of the erstwhile Madras Presidency of British India. It covered the present-day districts of Tiruchirappalli, Karur, Ariyalur and Perambalur in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The administrative headquarters was the town of Trichinopoly, Trichy or Tiruchi, now known as Tiruchirappalli. The district covered an area of 2,632 square miles (6,820 km2) in 1907. It was bound by the districts of South Arcot to the north, Salem to the west, Coimbatore to the west and north-west, Tanjore to the east and Madurai to the south. The princely state of Pudukkottai remained within the jurisdiction of Trichinopoly district from 1865 to 1947. Trichinopoly was one of the oldest inhabited regions in South India. Archaeological excavations have revealed Stone Age sites. The town of Uraiyur, the capital of the Early Cholas, was a part of Trichinopoly district. The region was annexed to Madras Presidency in the late 18th century and a separate district was created in 1801. When India became independent in 1947, the name of the district was de-Anglicized as Tiruchirapalli.

Tiruchchirappalli Junction railway station, also known as Trichy Junction railway station (station code: TPJ) is a junction station in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. It serves as the headquarters for Tiruchirappalli railway division of the Southern Railway zone. The station code is TPJ, used for official purposes. Daily approximately 15,000 passengers are using this Tiruchirappalli Junction. TPJ is the only railway station in southern railway to host diesel–electric multiple unit (DEMU) shed. Tiruchirappalli Junction is the second largest railway station in Tamil Nadu and one of the busiest railway stations in India. The Station was awarded with ‘GOLD’ (72 Points) rating in March 2020 by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) for implementing various environment-friendly measures. It is the first and only station in Southern Railway to get "GOLD" certification and 5th across Indian Railways.

The Anna Stadium is a stadium at the Anna Sports Complex located in the Indian city of Tiruchirappalli. The main football and athletics stadium, Anna Stadium, has a capacity of 10,000. Constructed in 1970, it is spread over an area of 31.25 acres (12.65 ha). The complex also houses a multi-purpose indoor stadium and has separate courts for sports such as tennis, badminton, basketball, football, kabaddi, hockey, and volleyball. The complex is located in Khajamalai, a suburb of Tiruchirappalli.

Jamal Mohamed College is a Government-aided and self-financed institution founded in 1951 by M. Jamal Mohamed Sahib and N.M. Khajamian Rowther. The college campus is located in Tiruchirappalli, India and is affiliated to Bharathidasan University. The Day session is for male students and the Evening session is for female students.

The Government Law College, Thiruchirappalli is one of seven government law colleges in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Like the rest of the law colleges in Tamil Nadu, it is administered by Tamil Nadu's Department of Legal Studies, and affiliated to Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University. The Tiruchirappalli college was opened in 1979, the same year as the Coimbatore college, joining existing government law colleges at Chennai and Madurai. The college has undergraduate and graduate programs, and maintains a hostel for girl students.

K.A.P. Viswanatham Medical College is a medical college started in 1997 and named after famous Tamil scholar K.A.P. Viswanatham. It started with a capacity to accommodate 100 Under graduate students. Since the year 2007, Post graduate courses were also started. Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital is attached to K.A.P.V Medical College. It is situated 2 km away from the college campus. It run by the state government of Tamil Nadu, which is recognized by the National Medical Commission. It is located in the city of Trichy, in Tamil Nadu. The college was ranked third by students in counselling in 2010.

Central Bus Station, popularly known as Central Bus Stand, is one of the bus termini of Trichy, located near Cantonment, the other being the Chatram Bus Stand.The terminus spread over an area of 4.5 acres (1.8 ha) is managed by the Department of Transport (Tamil Nadu). Being a major transit point in the central region of the state, it experiences heavy traffic of about 2,200 buses daily. These buses serve about one lakh (100,000) passengers every day.

St. John's Vestry Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School is a school located in Tiruchirappalli (also known as Trichy), Tamil Nadu, India. It is missioned by the Church of South India. It is one of the oldest school in Tamil Nadu and was established by the British around 1763. It first served as an orphanage for children of British soldiers, but later established itself as a school and moved to its current location. It has a long history and one of the oldest schools in Tamil Nadu & rich in Anglo-Indian tradition dating back to three centuries.This school was started on 1763 by the British, it was first held inside the vestry room of St. John's church. (A vestry room is the room where a priest changes his clothes to ceremonial robes.) Hence it acquired its name of St. John's vestry school. St.John's church is located near the central bus station. When the school started it covered only a small area of land at the current location, but expanded so that the campus now has separate buildings within the campus for year 1 to year 8 (Junior and Sub Junior block) and year 9 to year 12 (Senior and Super Senior block). The school has montessori facilities in a separate building. St. Johns Vestry Anglo Higher Secondary School also has boarding facilities for students from distant places.
