Marr RFC is a rugby union team based in Troon, Ayrshire, Scotland. They play in the Scottish Premiership.

The Reed Loch was also known as Loch Green. As a curling pond it was probably known as the Fullarton House Pond, located as it was on the edge of the Fullarton House and Crosbie Castle estate curtilage, It was originally a shallow and overgrown freshwater loch, hence the name Reed Loch and its marshy appearance on Johnson's 1828 map. It was cleaned out and used as a curling pond in the latter part of the 19th century before falling out of use and being drained in the late 20th century.

Kilmarnock (Barassie) Golf Club is a golf club and course in Barassie (on the outskirts of Troon, Ayrshire) on the west coast of Scotland. Formed as Ossington Golf Club in 1887, the first course was at Holmes Farm in Kilmarnock. The Club quickly became Kilmarnock Golf Club. The club moved to Barassie in the 1890s. The town of Kilmarnock boasts a proud sporting heritage with some of the oldest football, rugby, cricket and bowling clubs in Scotland and the UK. (See Kilmarnock FC, Kilmarnock RFC) The course itself is an Open Championship Final Qualifying venue, and has undergone considerable changes over the past few years. It has 27 holes, and also has much improved facilities in the clubhouse and professional's shop run by Gregor Howie. The additional nine holes are part of the championship course and have added a different dimension to Barassie with a par of 72 and a Standard Scratch of 74. The course measures at just under 7,000 yards and the new holes provide some challenges, perhaps no more so than the par-3 fourth hole or the quirky double dog-leg par-5 eighth. The course was host for The Amateur Championship in June 2001 along with Prestwick Golf Club and played host to the European Youths Championships the previous year. The Open Championship at Royal Troon in 2004 and 2016 saw Barassie play host to the Junior Open Championship. Well-known members include Jim Milligan and Gordon Sherry who played in successful Walker Cup teams and Alan Reid who won the Scottish Amateur Stroke Play Championship. Milligan was Scottish Amateur champion in 1988 whilst Sherry was The Amateur champion in 1995. Alasdair Watt was Scottish Amateur runner-up in 1987, losing to Colin Montgomerie of Royal Troon Golf Club. John Montgomerie won the Scottish Amateur in the 1950s. The club is also producing some good young members including David Wilson, Jack McDonald, Euan Walker and Callum Gorrie who have all represented Scotland. As well as being Scottish Club Champions, Barassie have also been European Club Champions in the 1990s.

Barassie (Scottish Gaelic: Bàrr Fhasaidh) is a former village on the east shore of the Firth of Clyde in South Ayrshire, Scotland. Today it serves as a suburb outside the northern edge of Troon. To the north-east of Barassie is the Kilmarnock Barassie Golf Club, which is where Gordon Sherry played. Barassie railway station is situated on the Ayrshire Coast Line, and there are regular rail services from the station to Ayr and Glasgow on a daily basis. Barassie is a diverse area consisting of a mixture of affluent middle class suburbs to the north and some social housing to the south.

Kemp Law Dun is a vitrified fort dating from the Iron Age situated near the town of Dundonald in South Ayrshire, Scotland. The remains of the Iron Age fort or dun lie on the old Auchans Estate in the Dundonald Woods near the site of the old Hallyards Farm and the quarry of that name. The footpath route known as the Smugglers' Trail through the Clavin Hills from Troon to Dundonald runs passed the ruins of the dun. Kemps Law is in the order of two thousand years old.

Clevens Loch was a substantial freshwater loch situated in a low-lying area below Clevance Farm and Langholm Farm in Dundonald parish, South Ayrshire, Scotland.

The 1997 Open Championship was a men's major golf championship and the 126th Open Championship, held from 17 to 20 July at the Royal Troon Golf Club in Troon, Scotland. Justin Leonard won his only major championship and was the fifth consecutive American to win at Royal Troon. Five strokes back after a 72 in the third round, Leonard had six birdies on the front nine in the final round; he added two more at 16 and 17 for 65 (−6) to win by three strokes over runners-up Darren Clarke and Jesper Parnevik, the 54-hole leader.

The 2020 Women's British Open (colloquially referred as The 2020 Open Championship, as there was no men's equivalent) was played from 20 to 23 August in Scotland at Royal Troon Golf Club. It was the 44th Women's British Open, the 20th as a major championship on the LPGA Tour, and the first at Royal Troon Golf Club. The tournament was played behind closed doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom. It was the first championship held under a renewed sponsorship agreement with AIG; the deal involved the rebranding of the championship, removing the word "British", with the event titled as the 2020 AIG Women's Open.The championship was won by world number 304 Sophia Popov, by two strokes from Thidapa Suwannapura. It was her first major tournament victory. Popov, a professional since 2014 and member of the second-tier Symetra Tour since 2016, had never previously won on any of the major tours, winning her first events on a mini-tour in Arizona earlier in 2020. She qualified for the Women's Open by means of a high finish at the LPGA Tour's Marathon Classic at the start of August.

The 1982 Open Championship was a men's major golf championship and the 111th Open Championship, held from 15 to 18 July at Royal Troon Golf Club in Troon, Scotland. Tom Watson won his fourth Open Championship, one stroke ahead of runners-up Peter Oosterhuis and Nick Price. It was Watson's second consecutive major victory—he won the U.S. Open a month earlier—and the seventh of his eight major titles.Watson became the fifth to win the U.S. Open and the Open Championship in the same year, joining fellow Americans Bobby Jones (1926, 1930), Gene Sarazen (1932), Ben Hogan (1953), and Lee Trevino (1971). Tiger Woods later won both in 2000. Watson's previous three Open wins also came in Scotland, at Carnoustie (1975), Turnberry (1977), and Muirfield (1980). His fifth victory in the Open in 1983 came at Royal Birkdale in England.
