Battle of Lauffeld

Oud-Vroenhoven is former municipality in the Dutch province of Limburg. It merged with Maastricht in 1920.The municipality covered a large part of the current municipality of Maastricht west of the river Meuse outside the walls of the city. In 1918, Kaiser Wilhelm II crossed into the Netherlands at the border crossing at Oud-Vroenhoven.

Riemst (Limburgish: Riems) is a small town and a municipality in the Belgian province of Limburg. Riemst is in the Flemish speaking area of Belgium. On January 1, 2018 Riemst had a total population of 16,665. The total area is 57.88 km² which gives a population density of 276 inhabitants per km². Riemst was the site of the Battle of Lauffeld, fought in 1747. The bridge in the Borough Vroenhoven was part of the start of WW2, when the Germans launched a coordinated attack on the area.Paul Schiepers (born in 1919) was the last mayor of the borough of Riemst before it joined with the other boroughs to form the current town of Riemst. He died on August 18, 1978.

Château Neercanne (also known as Agimont or kasteel Neercanne) is a restaurant located in Maastricht in the Netherlands. It is a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one or two Michelin stars in the periods 1957-1982 and 1986–2018. In 2013, GaultMillau awarded them 16.0 points (out of 20).Head chef in the Michelin period, were, amongst others, Theo Koch and Ber Stassen. Present head chef is Robert Levels.

Biesland is a neighbourhood of Maastricht, Netherlands located in the southwest of the city. It is mainly a residential neighbourhood and relatively affluent.

Kanne (Limburgish: Kan) is a village in the municipality of Riemst in the southeastern part of the Belgian province of Limburg. as of 2021, the village has 1,162 inhabitants of which a significant part have the Dutch nationality.

Eben-Ezer Tower, also known as the Museum of Flint (French:Musée du Silex), is a tower and museum in Eben-Emael, in the municipality of Bassenge in eastern Belgium. Constructed by one man, Robert Garcet (1912-2001), between 1951 and 1965, the tower is a fantastical construction built of flint rubble, and with dimensions and symbolism taken from the bible and from ancient civilisations. The tower is conspicuously topped at its four corners by large stone sculptures of the four cherubim of the Apocalypse: a bull on the north-west turret, man, in the form of a sphinx in the south-west, a lion in the south-east and an eagle at the north-east corner. Some of the seven floors of the tower are open to the public. The first few levels, the 'museum of flint', explain the history and use of the stone.As a work of outsider architecture, the tower was featured in episode 3 of Jarvis Cocker's 1999 series, Journeys into The Outside. Cocker visited the tower and interviewed Robert Garcet.

The Sint-Lambertuskerk (St. Lambert's) is a former church in the city of Maastricht, Limburg, Netherlands. At the time of its completion in 1916, St. Lambert's was the first church in Maastricht outside the Medieval city wall. The location of the church was in the so-called Hoge Fronten, an area that for centuries was used for building fortifications, both above ground and below ground. The latter turned out to be a liability for the building's stability. The church was designed by Hubert van Groenendael in neo-Romanesque style on a cruciform plan. it was built between 1914 and 1916. The church was named after the Maastricht-born saint Lambert, bishop of Maastricht and Liège in the 7th and 8th century. For 70 years the church was operated as a Roman Catholic parish church. Soon after its completion in 1916, subsidence cracks developed in the structure. Ten years later, the church was restored and no further damage occurred until 1970. Beginning in 1970, portions of the structure began to sag and new cracks developed. From 1985, the building was no longer used as a church. The parish moved to the nearby St. Ann's Church in the same neighbourhood of Brusselsepoort. In 2010–2012, the church underwent renovations at a cost of 12 million euros. In 2016–2017, it was converted into a laboratory workspace as well as an events location and a private home.

Lanaken is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg. On January 1, 2007, the municipality of Lanaken had a total population of 24,724. Its area is 59.00 km² which gives a population density of 415 inhabitants per km². Lanaken is located on the Belgian-Dutch border, bordering Maastricht directly. In the 2006 census, some 20 percent of the inhabitants turned out to have the Dutch nationality. A number of neighbourhoods in Lanaken is characterized by these immigrants' numerous villas and exclusive landhouses. Lanaken consists of the following villages: Lanaken proper, Rekem, Neerharen, Gellik, Veldwezelt, Smeermaas and Kesselt. Also located in Lanaken are the hamlets Briegden and Herbricht and the old village centre Oud-Rekem. The South African pulp and paper company Sappi operates a large mill on the outskirts of the town. In 2006, four 100 meter high wind turbines were built to provide electricity to the Celanese factory. Later on 8 more have been built. The reactivation of the former railway Maastricht-Lanaken-Hasselt was scheduled in 2014 but no such project has started to this day. The Veldwezelt-Hezerwater Palaeolithic archaeological site is located in the municipality.

The siege of Maastricht was a failed siege of the city of Maastricht by the forces of the French First Republic from 6 February to 2 March 1793, marking the final action of the 1793 campaign of the War of the First Coalition. The city was successfully defended by the Dutch garrison with the assistance of a small band of French Royalists.

Eigenbilzen is a village and former municipality in the Bilzen municipality of the Limburg province in the Flemish Community of Belgium. Eigenbilzen was an independent municipality until 1977 when it merged into Bilzen.
