Port Everglades is a seaport in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, located in Broward County. Port Everglades distributes fuel to 12 Florida counties and supplies jet fuel to four international airports. Port Everglades is also recognized as a favorite United States Navy liberty port. With a depth of 43 feet (13 m) (at mean low water), Port Everglades is currently the deepest port in the United States (Atlantic Ocean) south of Norfolk, Virginia.The Port Everglades Department is a self-supporting enterprise fund of the Broward County government, with operating revenues of approximately $170.7 million in fiscal year 2019. The port does not rely on local property taxes for operations. The total value of economic activity at Port Everglades is approximately $32 billion annually. Approximately 219,000 statewide jobs are impacted by the port, including more than 13,000 people who work for companies that provide direct services to Port Everglades. Port Everglades is the #1 seaport in Florida by revenue as well as one of the top container ports in the state. Port Everglades is consistently ranked among the top three multi-day cruise homeports in the world with 902 ship calls and 3.89 million passengers in fiscal year 2019, and the #2 petroleum port in Florida with 526 ship calls and 125.8 million barrels.

The Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography is a natural science college at Nova Southeastern University in Florida. The college offers programs in subjects like biology and mathematics and conducts oceanographical research.

The Broward County Convention Center or Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center (sometimes Fort Lauderdale Convention Center) is a convention center located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with an adjecent Omni Hotels & Resorts facility. It is located adjacent to the Intracoastal Waterway. The long-term calendar management for the Convention Center has been the responsibility of The Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau.

On January 6, 2017, a mass shooting occurred at Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport in Broward County, Florida, United States, near the baggage claim in Terminal 2. Five people were killed while six others were injured in the shooting. About 36 people sustained injuries in the ensuing panic. Esteban Santiago-Ruiz, who flew in to the airport from Alaska and committed the shooting with a Walther PPS 9mm semi-automatic pistol, was taken into custody by a Broward County Sheriff's Office (BSO) deputy within 85 seconds after he started shooting. The shooting from start to finish lasted 70–80 seconds. Santiago was later diagnosed with schizophrenia and pleaded guilty to avoid possible execution. On August 17, 2018, Santiago was sentenced to five consecutive life sentences plus 120 years in prison.

The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale is a former for-profit art and culinary school in Fort Lauderdale, Florida which closed in 2018. The school was one of a number of Art Institutes, a franchise of for-profit art colleges with many branches in North America, owned and operated by Education Management Corporation. EDMC owned the college from 1973 until 2017, when, facing declining enrollment, multiple fraud charges brought by faculty and students, and accreditation issues at some of its schools, the company sold the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, along with other properties, to Dream Center Education, a Los Angeles-based Pentecostal organization. Dream Center Education planned to operate the school, along with others it acquired, as a non-profit. The plan proved unsustainable, with Dream Center permanently closing 18 Art Institute schools, including Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, at the end of 2018.

Pier Sixty-Six is a resort and marina located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Situated on 32 acres, the Pier Sixty-Six property sits on the north and south sides of the 17th Street Causeway Bridge. In 2016, Tavistock Development Company acquired the property and initiated a redevelopment project for Pier Sixty-Six.

The Holocaust Documentation & Education Center, located at 303 N. Federal Highway, Dania Beach, Florida, was founded in 1980. The Center is raising funds to build the first South Florida Holocaust Museum, which will – uniquely for a museum of this type – serve both the Spanish- and the English-speaking public. After vacating its previous location, a three-story building at 2031 Harrison Street in Hollywood, Florida, it moved into its current location, a 25,000-square-foot facility, on September 28, 2016.

On October 28, 2016, FedEx Express Flight 910, a McDonnell Douglas MD-10-10F flying from Memphis International Airport to Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport was involved in a runway skid after a landing gear collapse, which resulted in a fire completely destroying the left engine and wing. Two crew members, the only people on board, were unharmed.On the same day, American Airlines Flight 383 aborted takeoff after it suffered an engine fire at Chicago O'Hare International Airport. Everyone survived, with 21 passengers injured.

Pirates World was a 100-acre (40 ha) pirate-themed amusement park in Dania, Florida, that opened April 8, 1967. Developed by Recreation Corporation of America, it was located on the north side of Sheridan Street between U.S. Route 1 and A1A. With the opening of Walt Disney World in 1971, attendance dropped drastically, and the park was closed in 1973.

The Dr. Willard Van Orsdel King House is an historic U.S. home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It is located at 1336 Seabreeze Boulevard. It was built in 1951 and is an architectural example of the Mid-century modern design movement. On February 21, 2006, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.The three bedroom home was designed by William F. Bigoney to be bright but cool in the subtropic environment. A large central room with two walls of windows is the central axis of the building. It was built in the beginning of the post war development boom in Fort Lauderdale. Entomologist Willard Van Orsdel King who worked in mosquito control lived in the home.

The Nyberg-Swanson House (also known as the Charles Nelson House) is a historic home in Dania Beach, Florida. It is located at 102 West Dania Beach Boulevard. On May 28, 1999, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

St. Ruth Missionary Baptist Church is an historic church in Dania Beach, Florida. Founded by Charlie Chambers in 1908, it was the first black church in Dania and housed the first "colored" school in the town.: 47 The first sanctuary was a small house on NW 4th Avenue, built by "Charlie Chambers along with a few faithful followers...from lumber found in the Atlantic Ocean." He named it after his daughter. The first school class had nine students. The sanctuary was moved in 1920 to NW 5th Avenue. That building was destroyed completely in the 1926 Miami hurricane, but was rebuilt. Beginning in 1948 W.C. Edcar was the pastor; he retired in 1992. In 1957 there was a new building. In 2016 the pastor was J.C. Howard.
