The Alvier (German pronunciation: [alˈfiːɐ̯] ) is a mountain in the Appenzell Alps, located halfway between Lake Walenstadt and the Rhine in the canton of St. Gallen. It is one of the main summits of the chain separating the valleys of the river Seez and the Rhine. Although involving a long hike, the summit is easily accessible by trails from both sides.

The Gonzen (1,830 m) is a mountain of the Appenzell Alps, overlooking the Rhine Valley at Sargans, in the canton of St. Gallen. It lies at the southeastern end of the Alvier group. The summit of the Gonzen can be reached via a trail on the northern side.

The Fulfirst is a mountain of the Appenzell Alps, located north of Flums in the canton of St. Gallen. It lies in the Alvier group, between the Walensee and the Rhine Valley. The Fulfirst has two summits: the Gross Fulfirst (2,384 m) and the Chli Fulfirst (2,372 m).

Mels railway station (German: Bahnhof Mels) is a railway station in Mels, in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen. It is an intermediate stop on the Ziegelbrücke–Sargans line.

Mels is a municipality in the Wahlkreis (constituency) of Sarganserland in the Seeztal, canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland.

Sargans Castle is a castle in the municipality of Sargans of the Canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland. It is a Swiss heritage site of national significance.The castle was the seat of the counts of Werdenberg-Sargans in the 13th century. Since 1899, it has been run by the local church and now houses the Sarganserland museum.

The Seeztal (or Seez Valley) is a valley of the canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland, extending to the east of Lake Walen for some 10 km, formed by the river Seez. The valley appears to be a left branch off the Rhine valley at Sargans, but there is a divide at Mels. Situated in the Seeztal are the municipalities of Walenstadt (425 m), Flums (453 m) and Mels (500 m). Running along the valley are the A3 motorway and the Chur-Zürich railway line. As a consequence, the Seeztal is well connected to Greater Zurich, the journey by train from Zurich Airport to Mels taking some 90 minutes.

The Saar is a minor tributary of the Alpine Rhine in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen. It rises in Mittelsäss, Bad Ragaz municipality, at 2,087 m elevation. Flowing generally north, it passes the Saarfall waterfall, dropping from 560 m to 500 m, reaching the plain of the Rhine Valley. From here, it is strongly canalised, flowing through the territories of the Vilters-Wangs, Mels and Sargans municipalities before joining the Rhine downstream of Trübbach at 480 m. Its named tributaries are Kleine Saar (left), Vadanabach (left) Saschielbach (right), Silbergiessen (right), Chrummgiessen (right) and Kaltgiessen (right). The Saar was first canalised between 1855–1862. Its confluence with the Rhine was moved 700 metres downstream, to the mouth of the Trübbach. Its lower course was widened in 1899–1908. Its mouth was again moved downstream by 2.5 km after a flood in 1954.

The Gamsberg is a mountain in the Appenzell Alps, overlooking the region of Walenstadt in the canton of St. Gallen. Located in the Alvier group it is the culminating point of the range lying between Lake Walenstadt and Toggenburg. The summit is relatively difficult to access. There is no trail leading to the top. Not to be confused with the mountain of the same name in Namibia.

Sargans railway station (German: Bahnhof Sargans) is a railway station in Sargans, in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen. It is an intermediate stop on the Chur–Rorschach line and eastern terminus of the Ziegelbrücke–Sargans line. It is served by local, regional, and long-distance trains.

Sevelen is a municipality in the Wahlkreis (constituency) of Werdenberg in the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland.

Wartau is a municipality in the Werdenberg constituency of the Swiss canton of St. Gallen. The municipality consists of a number of villages on the eastern flank of the Alvier group, along the left shore of the Alpine Rhine.
