Oundle Rural District

Lilford Hall is a Grade I listed Jacobean stately home at Lilford in Northamptonshire in the United Kingdom. The 100-room house is located in the eastern part of the county, south of Oundle and north of Thrapston.

Lilford is a small village in the civil parish of Lilford-cum-Wigsthorpe, in the North Northamptonshire district, in the ceremonial county of Northamptonshire, England. It is situated approximately 7 miles northeast of the market town of Thrapston, Lilford is known for its picturesque countryside, historic landmarks, and a rich agricultural heritage.

Lilford-cum-Wigsthorpe is a civil parish in the North Northamptonshire district of Northamptonshire, England. The parish includes the hamlets of Lilford and Wigsthorpe and surrounding rural areas. It lies 3 miles (5 km) south of Oundle. Much of the northern part of the parish comprises the parkland and wider estate of Lilford Hall. At the 2021 census the parish had a population of 114. It shares a grouped parish council with the neighbouring parish of Thorpe Achurch.

Barnwell (formerly Barnwell All Saints and Barnwell St Andrew) is a village and civil parish in the North Northamptonshire district, in Northamptonshire, England, 2 miles (3.2 km) south of the town of Oundle, 78 miles (126 km) north of London (via the A1 road) and 14 miles (22.5 km) south-west of Peterborough. The River Nene runs north of the village, separating it from Oundle. The villages name origin is uncertain. 'Warrior's spring/stream', 'Beorna's spring/stream' or 'burial-place spring/stream'.

Barnwell railway station is a former railway station in Barnwell, Northamptonshire on the former Northampton and Peterborough Railway line which connected Peterborough and Northampton. The station buildings were designed by the architect John William Livock. In 1846 the line, along with the London and Birmingham, became part of the London and North Western Railway. At grouping in 1923 it became part of the London Midland and Scottish Railway.

East Northamptonshire was a local government district in Northamptonshire, England, from 1974 to 2021. Its council was based in Thrapston and Rushden. Other towns included Oundle, Raunds, Irthlingborough and Higham Ferrers. The town of Rushden was by far the largest settlement in the district. The population of the district at the 2011 Census was 86,765. The district bordered onto the Borough of Corby, the Borough of Kettering, the Borough of Wellingborough, the Borough of Bedford, the City of Peterborough, the District of Huntingdonshire, South Kesteven District and the unitary authority county of Rutland. The district was formed on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, by a merger of the municipal borough of Higham Ferrers, with the urban districts of Irthlingborough, Oundle, Raunds and Rushden, along with Oundle and Thrapston Rural District, and Newton Bromswold from Wellingborough Rural District. Much of the district was home to Rockingham Forest, once a Royal hunting forest which takes its name from the village of Rockingham where William I built a castle. The district was home to several of Northamptonshire's airfields including Spanhoe, King's Cliffe, Deenethorpe, Polebrook, Chelveston and Lyveden.

Barnwell Castle is a ruined castle, south of the town of Oundle, and north of the village of Barnwell, Northamptonshire (grid reference TL047853). It has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade I listed building, and is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. It is under private ownership. A motte and bailey castle was erected in 1132. The stone castle was built during the reign of King Henry III by the family of Berengar Le Moyne at the time of the Second Barons' War (1264-67). In the English Civil War it was used by its owner, Sir Edward Montagu, as an arsenal for the Royal cause. After the civil war the Montagu family built a substantial manor house, Barnwell Manor, near the castle. Substantial parts of the castle remain. It is quadrilateral in shape with cylinder towers on the northeast, northwest and southwest corners. On the southeast corner is a twin-towered gatehouse. The walls are up to 30 feet (9 m) high and over 12 feet (4 m) thick.

Pilton is a hamlet and civil parish in North Northamptonshire, England. The population is included in the civil parish of Wadenhoe. The hamlets name means 'Pileca's farm/settlement'.

The Church of St. John the Baptist is a Grade II* listed church in Achurch, Northamptonshire. The adjacent rectory dates from 1633. The church dates from around the early 13th century. The church was rebuilt by Sir Ascelin de Waterville upon his return from the Third Crusade.

Barnwell Manor is a Grade II listed country estate near the village of Barnwell, about 2.5 miles (4.0 km) south of Oundle, in Northamptonshire, England. The historic former home of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, as of 2017 it was occupied by Windsor House Antiques. In September 2022, Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, put the manor up for sale for £4.75 million and it was sold in April 2024.

Achurch is a village in the civil parish of Thorpe Achurch in the North Northamptonshire district of Northamptonshire, England. The village is situated on a small rise above the River Nene, and lies 5 miles (8 km) south of the market town of Oundle. As well as Achurch, the parish also includes the village of Thorpe Waterville and surrounding rural areas. At the 2021 census the parish had a population of 188. It shares a grouped parish council with the neighbouring parish of Lilford-cum-Wigsthorpe. The parish includes the Grade II* listed Church of St. John the Baptist, an early and late 13th-century Anglican church restored and enlarged by architect William Slater in 1862.

Wigsthorpe is a hamlet in the civil parish of Lilford-cum-Wigsthorpe in the North Northamptonshire district of Northamptonshire, England. It lies to the south of the town of Oundle and the village of Barnwell. Attested in 1232 as Wykingethorp, the name is believed to mean "Outlying farmstead or hamlet of a man called Vikingr".
