Saltivskyi District (Ukrainian: Салтівський район) is an urban district of the city of Kharkiv, Ukraine, named after Saltivka residential area. The district was created in 1937 when Petynsko-Zhuravlivskyi District was split into Kahanovychskyi and Stalinskyi districts. In 1961 Stalinskyi District was renamed to Moskovskyi. On 11 May 2022, it was renamed to Saltivskyi.

Saltivka (Ukrainian: Салтiвка; Russian: Салтовка) is a large residential area located in the northeastern region of Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine. It covers most of the eponymous Saltivskyi District with parts extending into the Kyivskyi District and Nemyshlyanskyi District. It is sometimes called the Saltivskyi Masyv, as it realizes a soviet urban planning concept which consist of several different neighborhoods with similar architectural design. Despite its reputation as a deprived residential area with outdated and dilapidated housing, more than a third of Kharkiv's total population resides within its boundaries. According to various estimates, some 400–800,000 inhabitants live in Saltivka, making it one of the largest residential areas in Ukraine. The name of the neighborhood is derived from the road that leads to Staryi Saltiv and Verkhnii Saltiv in Chuhuiv Raion. The exact borders of the area aren't well defined, traditionally it to refers to a part of the city located between the Kharkiv river and its tributary Nemyshlia, though some might exclude from it the areas not covered by soviet tower blocks. Prior to the 1960s, Saltivka was called Saltivsky village, and consisted of a few small scattered areas with three-story buildings (Tyurinka, Stara Saltivka, Shevchenky, Selyshche imeni Kirova). Saltivka was conceived from the start as a purely residential neighborhood according to the Soviet concept of creating so-called sleeping districts in large industrial cities. Saltivka has almost no industrial compounds, but there are many shops and markets for residents. The neighborhood includes one of the largest warehouse markets in Ukraine near the Akademika Barabashova station the Kharkiv metro. The Barabashov marketplace, according to some sources, is the largest in Europe. Residential development was initiated by the Dipromisto Institute in 1963. Saltivka's residential panel buildings typically have 9, 12 and 16 floors, and more rarely, 5 floors. Separate high-rise buildings were constructed from 1967, and construction on the bulk of the buildings in Saltivka began in the 1970s. Few new buildings building have been added since the 1990s, mostly near the Studentska and Heroiv Pratsi metro stations. Saltivka was heavily damaged during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The Metro Bridge (Ukrainian: Харківський метроміст) is the only bridge of the Kharkiv Metro, located between the Kyivska and Akademika Barabashova stations on the Saltivska Line. The bridge crosses above the Kharkiv River and is fully enclosed without any windows to maintain the air flow. Its construction forced the demolition of a section of the Zhuravlivka private residential sector.

JSC "Khartron" (Hartron) (Ukrainian: Хартрон, formerly NPO "Electropribor", Russian: НПО "Электроприбор", meaning Scientific Production Association "Electrical device"; originally known as NII-692 or OKB-692 design bureau; afterwards known as KB electropriborostroeniya before being named NPO Electropribor) is one of the leading design engineering bureaus in former Soviet states (and the only in Ukraine), which develops and produces spacecraft and missile control systems.

Kharkiv Regional College of Physical Culture and Sports (Ukrainian: Харківське обласне вище училище фізичної культури та спорту) also known as OUFK or KhOVUFKS is a sports college in Kharkiv that provides sports reserve for Olympic sports and is subordinated to the Kharkiv city council. Note that in Kharkiv are two colleges of Physical Culture, one belongs to the Kharkiv Oblast, another is administered directly by the Government of Ukraine through the Ministry of Sports. The college was created in 1986 as the Kharkiv city boarding school in winter sports. In 1997-2002 it was known as the Regional Humanitarian College (Ukrainian: обласне вище гуманітарне училище). The college is specialized in following sports: badminton, basketball, biathlon, volleyball, handball, table tennis, cross-country skiing, powerlifting, athletics (short track), female association football, chess. Upon successful completion a college graduate of the school receives an undergraduate diploma in "Physical development". After fall of the Soviet Union, the college hockey team OUFK Kharkiv participated in the Ukrainian national hockey tournaments.

Zavod Imeni Malysheva (Ukrainian: Завод імені Малишева, (listen); Russian: Завод имени Малышева) is a station on Kharkiv Metro's Kholodnohirsko–Zavodska Line. It was opened on 23 August 1975. The station is located close to the Malyshev Factory.

The Malyshev Factory (Ukrainian: Завод імені В.О. Малишева, romanized: Zavod imeni V.O. Malysheva; abbreviated ЗІМ, ZIM), formerly the Kharkov Locomotive Factory (Харьковский паровозостроительный завод, Khar'kovskiy parovozostroitel'nyy zavodХПЗ, KhPZ), is a state-owned manufacturer of heavy equipment in Kharkiv, Ukraine. It was named after the Soviet politician Vyacheslav Malyshev. The factory is part of the State Concern UkrOboronProm (Ukrainian Defense Industry). It produces diesel engines, farm machinery, coal mining, sugar refining, and wind farm equipment, but is best known for its production of Soviet tanks, including the BT tank series of fast tanks, the famous T-34 of the Second World War, the Cold War T-64 and T-80, and their modern Ukrainian successor, the T-84. The factory is closely associated with the Morozov Design Bureau (KMDB), designer of military armoured fighting vehicles and the Kharkov Engine Design Bureau (KEDB) for engines. During 1958 it constructed "Kharkovchanka", an off-road vehicle which reached the South Pole the following year. At its height during the Soviet era, the factory employed 60,000 of Kharkiv's 1.5 million inhabitants.As of 2015, 5,000 people worked at the factory.
