The East of England is one of the nine official regions of England in the United Kingdom. This region was created in 1994 and was adopted for statistics purposes from 1999. It includes the ceremonial counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. Essex has the highest population in the region.The population of the East of England region in 2018 was 6.24 million. Bedford, Luton, Basildon, Peterborough, Southend-on-Sea, Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester, Chelmsford and Cambridge are the region's most populous settlements. The southern part of the region lies in the London commuter belt.

Newmarket railway station (Suffolk) was opened by the Great Eastern Railway on 7 April 1902. It is on the Ipswich–Ely line and is 800 yards (730 m) south of the site of the original Newmarket station. Since March 2013, passenger services have been operated by Abellio Greater Anglia.

Newmarket Town Hall is a former municipal building in Newmarket, Suffolk, a town in England. The structure, which currently serves as an Italian restaurant, is a Grade II listed building.

Palace House is the home of the National Horse Racing Museum in the remaining part of Charles II's racing palace in Newmarket, Suffolk, England. It is home to the National Horse Racing Museum, the British Sporting Art Trust and Retraining of Racehorses, and was opened by Elizabeth II in 2016.

Newmarket is a market town and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk, England. Located (14 miles) west of Bury St Edmunds and (14 miles) northeast of Cambridge. It is considered the birthplace and global centre of thoroughbred horse racing. It is a major local business cluster, with annual investment rivalling that of the Cambridge Science Park, the other major cluster in the region. It is the largest racehorse training centre in Britain, the largest racehorse breeding centre in the country, home to most major British horseracing institutions, and a key global centre for horse health. Two Classic races, and an additional three British Champions Series races are held at Newmarket every year. The town has had close royal connections since the time of James I, who built a palace there, and was also a base for Charles I, Charles II, and most monarchs since. Elizabeth II visited the town often to see her horses in training. Newmarket has over fifty horse training stables, two large racetracks, the Rowley Mile and the July Course, and one of the most extensive and prestigious horse training grounds in the world. The town is home to over 3,500 racehorses, and it is estimated that one in every three local jobs is related to horse racing. Palace House, the National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art, the National Horseracing Museum, Tattersalls racehorse auctioneers, and two of the world's foremost equine hospitals for horse health, are in the town, which is surrounded by over sixty horse breeding studs. On account of its leading position in the multibillion-pound horse racing and breeding industry, it is also a major export centre.

R. Cotton's Ground, known today as The Severals, is a cricket ground in Newmarket, Suffolk. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1864, when a combined Cambridge and Yorkshire team played a combined Kent and Nottinghamshire team in the ground's only first-class match. The first Minor Counties Championship match held on the ground was in 1908, when Cambridgeshire played Suffolk. From 1908 to 1911, the ground hosted four Minor Counties Championship matches, with the final Minor Counties fixture seeing Cambridgeshire entertain Suffolk.Known today as The Severals Sports Ground, it is the home ground of Newmarket Cricket Club which was formed in 2020. The club has four senior sides, with the First XI competing in the Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire Premier Division 1 in the 2022 season, one league below the East Anglian Premier League.

Newmarket was a rural district in Cambridgeshire, England from 1894 to 1974. It surrounded the town of Newmarket, in West Suffolk, on the north, west and south sides. The district was created in 1894 as the Cambridgeshire part of the Newmarket rural sanitary district (the Suffolk part becoming Moulton Rural District), and included the parishes of Ashley, Bottisham, Brinkley, Burrough Green, Burwell, Cheveley, Chippenham, Fordham, Isleham, Kennett, Kirtling, Lode, Reach, Snailwell, Soham, Stetchworth, Swaffham Bulbeck, Swaffham Prior, Westley Waterless, Wicken, and Woodditton.It was abolished in 1974 by the Local Government Act 1972 and went on to form part of the East Cambridgeshire district.

Bedford House Stables was the main training yard of Luca Cumani. After Cumani's retirement at the end of the 2018 flat racing season, the yard was purchased by trainer Charlie Fellowes.It is located next to the prestigious Bury Road in Newmarket, Suffolk, and became a British Listed building on 30 October 2006. The original construction dates to the 1820s and was built for Francis Russell, 7th Duke of Bedford. Upon his death, the property changed hands multiple times, eventually being bought by horse racing enthusiast James Octavius Machell. In 1892, the property was sold to Henry McCalmont.

Godolphin Stables, also known as Stanley House Stables, is a thoroughbred racehorse ownership, training and breeding operation in Newmarket, Suffolk, which has produced many notable horses. It is one of the most famous racing establishments in the world and is currently owned and operated by Godolphin Racing, the UK's largest flat racing operation.

Freemason Lodge Stables is the training yard of Sir Michael Stoute, ten-time British flat racing Champion Trainer.It is located next to the prestigious Bury Road in Newmarket, Suffolk.

Clarehaven Stables is a thoroughbred horse racing stable built next to the Bury Road in the horse racing town of Newmarket.It was built early in the 20th century and was bought by the businessman and philanthropist Sir David Robinson in the 1960s, after which it became the base for his successful racing operation. It is now a base to racehorse trainer John Gosden, a British flat racing Champion Trainer, who has trained Breeders' Cup Classic winner Raven's Pass, Derby and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Golden Horn, St. James's Palace Stakes winner Kingman, Dubai Sheema Classic winner Dar Re Mi, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Eclipse Stakes winner Nathaniel, Irish Oaks winner Great Heavens there, and many others.

Newmarket Academy (formerly Newmarket College) is a coeducational secondary school with academy status located in Newmarket in the English county of Suffolk.Previously a community school administered by Suffolk County Council, Newmarket College converted to academy status on 1 July 2014 and was renamed Newmarket Academy and became part of the Samuel Ward Academy Trust. However, the school continues to coordinate with Suffolk County Council for admissions.Newmarket Academy offers GCSE courses, and has cross-curricular study and extra-curricular activities. In the academic year 2014–2015 GCSE results at the newly created Academy rose 15% to 52% A* - C including English and Maths. The school is also partnered with Godolphin to offer experience to the students.
