Whickham F.C.

Whickham School is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form located in Whickham (near Newcastle upon Tyne) in Tyne and Wear, England.Formerly Whickham Comprehensive School, it opened in 1962 as a replacement for the small, 'all-age' Victorian school in the village centre. A much larger school was required due to the large house-building programme that was taking place. It holds around 1700 pupils between the ages of 11-19 and has 300 members of staff. It offers a range of vocational and traditional qualifications at Key Stage 4 and 5, including GCSE, BTEC and A-Level.

The first team currently play in the fourth tier of the English rugby union system (National League 2 North), having been promoted as champions from North Premier at the end of the 2019–20 season. Their home ground is at Crow Trees, Swalwell, Tyne and Wear.

Metrocentre is a shopping centre and entertainment complex in the Dunston area of Gateshead. It is located on the former site of Dunston Power Station, near to the River Tyne. Metrocentre opened in stages, with the first phase opening on 28 April 1986, and the official opening being held on 14 October that year. It has more than 300 shops occupying over 2,000,000 sq ft (190,000 m2) of retail floor space, making it the second-largest shopping centre in the UK, behind Westfield London. Additional retail space can be found in the adjoining Metro Retail Park and MetrOasis.

Sunniside is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead, which is located around 5.5 miles (9 km) from Newcastle upon Tyne. Prior to the creation of the county of Tyne and Wear in 1974, it was part of Whickham Urban District, which in turn formed a part of County Durham.Sunniside has a busy Front Street, with a collection of pubs, shops, and amenities. The village is surrounded mainly by farmland, with plantations of trees to the east, whilst also neighbouring the villages of Byermoor, Marley Hill and Whickham. The village is mostly housing, with older terraced properties situated near to the shops, and large housing estates built from the 1960s onward radiating from this area. It has a large park to the north of the village, next to Burnthouse Lane. Attractions near to the village include Beamish Museum and Tanfield Railway. The A692 road runs directly through the centre of the village and is used by many transport companies as a direct route to the town of Consett: this road carries some of the heaviest traffic through the borough of Gateshead daily. There have been a lot of private housing developments in the village of Sunniside, between 2017 and 2021, leading to increases in population and traffic. Sunniside has one of the highest rates of community council tax in the country (including London)

The River Derwent is a river which flows between the historic county boundaries of Durham and Northumberland in the north east of England. It broadens into the Derwent Reservoir, west of Consett. The Derwent is a tributary of the River Tyne, which it joins near the MetroCentre near Gateshead. The river flows for 35 miles from its origin, where two streams, Beldon Burn and Nookton Burn meet approximately a mile west of Blanchland, to Derwenthaugh where it flows into the River Tyne. On its journey, the river flows through places such as Allensford, Shotley Bridge, Blackhall Mill and Rowlands Gill. The Derwent Walk Country Park at Rowlands Gill is named after the river. The name Derwent comes from the Brythonic/Early Welsh word for oak derw and valley -went.

Derwenthaugh railway station served the village of Swalwell, Tyne and Wear, England from 1836 to 1868 on the Newcastle and Carlisle Railway.

Metrocentre Interchange serves the Metrocentre in Gateshead. The bus station was originally constructed in the late 1980s, opened in 1987. In the early 2000s, the former bus station was demolished, with the current bus station opened in October 2004.A footbridge connects Metrocentre Interchange with the railway station and coach park. Rail services from the station are operated by Northern Trains.Metrocentre Interchange is served by Go North East and Stagecoach in Newcastle's bus services, with frequent routes running in and around Gateshead and Newcastle upon Tyne, as well as County Durham, North Tyneside and Northumberland. The bus station has 12 departure stands (lettered A–M), each of which is fitted with seating, next bus information displays, and timetable posters. As of March 2022, the stand allocation is:

MetroCentre is a railway station on the Tyne Valley Line, which runs between Newcastle and Carlisle via Hexham. The station, situated 3 miles 39 chains (3.49 mi; 5.61 km) west of Newcastle, serves Metrocentre, Gateshead in Tyne and Wear, England. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains.
