Stogursey

Stogursey Priory, also called Stoke Courcy Priory or The Priory of St Andrew de Stoke, was a Benedictine alien priory dedicated to St Andrew at Stogursey in Somerset, England. It was founded by William de Falaise, around 1100, to become a cell of Lonlay-l'Abbaye in Normandy. In around 1185 John de Courcy, its hereditary patron, founded the Priory of the Ards (Blackabbey) in County Down, Ireland, making an endowment of that estate to Stogursey Priory. The priory church survives as the parish church, and contains some of the original Norman architecture. Many of the priory's muniments are held in the archives of Eton College, which King Henry VI endowed with the appurtenances when the house was dissolved in about 1440.

Stogursey Castle is a medieval castle in Somerset, England. Most of the site is in ruins, but there is a thatched gatehouse used for holiday rental by the Landmark Trust.

Fairfield House is a historic house in Stogursey, Somerset, England. A house existed on the site from the 12th century and it has been owned by the same family since that time. The current building is largely 16th-century, but has undergone various remodellings since then. It is designated as a Grade II* listed building. The house was surrounded by a Medieval deer park covering approximately 200 acres (81 ha). Part of this was converted into an Elizabethan garden around 1580, and now includes a walled garden. The current owner is Elizabeth Gass who has sold some of the surrounding parkland to Hinkley Point Power station.

Hinkley Point C nuclear power station (HPC) is a two-unit, 3,200 MWe EPR nuclear power station under construction in Somerset, England. The site was one of eight announced by the British government in 2010, and in November 2012 a nuclear site licence was granted. On 28 July 2016, the EDF board approved the project, and on 15 September 2016 the UK government approved the project with some safeguards for the investment. The project is financed by EDF Energy and China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN). The final cost was to be £18 billion in 2015 prices. When construction began in March 2017 completion was expected in 2025. Since then the project has been subject to several delays, including some caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and Brexit, and this has resulted in significant budget overruns. As of May 2022, the project was two years late and the expected cost stood at £25–26 billion (2015 prices, excluding interim interest), 50% more than the original budget from 2016. In EDF's 2022 annual results published on 17 February 2023, the cost was £31–32 billion in 2023 prices, Unit 1 had a start date of June 2027 and a risk of 15 months further delay. In January 2024, EDF announced that it estimated that the final cost would be £31–35 billion (2015 prices, excluding interim interest), £41.6–47.9 billion in 2024 prices, with Unit 1 planned to become operational in 2029 to 2031.

The Anglican Church of St Martin in Fiddington within the English county of Somerset dates from the 11th century and has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade II* listed building.

Over Stowey is a small village and civil parish in Somerset, South West England. A large part of the forest and open heath of the Quantock Hills is within the parish and it includes the hamlets of Plainsfield, Aley, Adscombe, Friarn and Bincombe. It is adjacent to Nether Stowey, 8 miles (13 km) north-west of Bridgwater.

The Anglican Church of St Mary the Virgin in Nether Stowey in the English county of Somerset has a 15th-century tower, with the remainder of the church being rebuilt in 1851 by Richard Carver and Charles Edmund Giles. It is as a Grade II* listed building.

Coleridge Cottage is a cottage situated in Nether Stowey, Bridgwater, Somerset, England. It is a grade II* listed building. The 17th century cottage was originally two buildings which were later combined and expanded. In 1797 the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge rented the cottage. While he lived there he wrote many of his better known works. He was visited by William Wordsworth and other early members of the Romantic movement. Coleridge moved out in 1799 and the building was refurbished. Almost 100 years after his occupation some of his admirers leased the property and eventually bought it, after a national campaign and significant private funding. In 1909 they handed it over to the National Trust who have run it as a writer's home museum since then. In the later 20th and early 21st centuries further renovation and expansion was undertaken. Since then, it has won awards as a tourist attraction. The cottage is the starting point for the long-distance trail the Coleridge Way which runs west for 51-mile (82 km) to Lynmouth.

The Anglican St Mary's Church at Stringston in the English county of Somerset dates from the 17th century. It has been designated as a Grade II listed building. The current building replaced an earlier one linked to Kilve Chantry. Although there is some 17th-century fabric left in the building, most of existing stonework is from the late 19th and early 20th century following a Victorian restoration. The three-stage west tower is supported by diagonal buttresses. Within the churchyard is a cross dating from the 14th century, which is on the Heritage at Risk Register. It has two steps and an octagonal shaft supporting a canopied head. It is Grade II* listed and scheduled as an ancient monument. There is also a chest tomb surrounded by railing. The parish is part of The Quantock Coast Benefice within the archdeaconry of Taunton.

Stringston is a village and civil parish on the northern edge of the Quantock Hills in the English county of Somerset. The village is 10 miles (16 km) west of Bridgwater, and close to the villages of Holford, Kilve and Stogursey. In 2002, the parish was estimated to have a population of 116. Besides the village of Stringston itself, the parish includes the settlements of Lilstock and Kilton.
