Sleeman Centre (Brisbane)

The second edition of the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, a long course (50 m) event, was held in 1987 at the Chandler Aquatic Centre in Brisbane, Australia, from August 13–16.

The Chandler Arena (formerly the Sleeman Sports Centre) is an indoor sports venue, located in the suburb of Chandler in Brisbane, Queensland. It has seating capacity for 2,700, and hosts netball, basketball, indoor soccer, badminton and volleyball. The Sleeman Sports Complex, of which the Chandler Arena is a part, was purpose-built for the 1982 Commonwealth Games which were staged in Brisbane. Since then the centre has hosted a range of sporting events including the 1994 World Masters Games and the 2001 Goodwill Games swimming, diving and cycling events. The Sleeman Complex, which includes the Chandler Arena, the Chandler Aquatic Centre, and the Chandler Velodrome, was named after the past Brisbane Lord Mayors, Sir John Beals Chandler and Frank Sleeman. Chandler arena was also the one time home of the Brisbane Bullets of the National Basketball League between 1984 and 1986 before the team moved into the 13,500 capacity, state of the art Brisbane Entertainment Centre early in the 1986 NBL season. The Bullets won their first NBL Championship at Chandler Arena defeating the Adelaide 36ers 121–95 on 7 September 1985 in the last NBL Grand Final to be played as a single game. This turned out to be the only one of the Bullets three NBL championships that was won in Brisbane and the only one won at the Chandler Arena. Chandler Arena was also the home of the Queensland Firebirds in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy netball series between 1997 and 2008 before the series became the ANZ Championship and the team moved to the larger Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.

The 2010 Australian Short Course Swimming Championships were held at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre from Wednesday 14 July to Sunday 18 July. They were organised by Swimming Australia and sponsored by Telstra. The events were spread over five days of competition featuring heats in the morning, with semifinals and finals in the evening session. The format of the meet consisted of heats for all individual events with semifinals in the 50 and 100 m individual events. The 200 and 400 m events consisted of A and B finals with no semifinals whilst the 800 and 1500 m freestyle and relay events consisted of timed finals only.

The electorate is centred on the south-eastern suburbs of Brisbane and stretches north to Tingalpa, west to Carina Heights, east to Tingalpa Creek and south to Bulimba Creek.Unusually for a suburban seat, the district of Chatsworth is not named after a suburb within its boundaries but is instead named after Chatsworth Road. This is despite the fact Chatsworth Road does not fall within the present district of Chatsworth; it runs through the neighbouring district of Greenslopes.

Mount Petrie is a mountain in the south east of the city of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The 170 metre rise is sometimes referred to as Petrie Hill. It elevates semi-rural residential parts in the suburbs of Mackenzie and Burbank. The mountain was named after Andrew Petrie Superintendent of Works, Moreton Bay Colony, who climbed it to get his bearings when lost in the bush in the company of the Commandant of Moreton Bay Colony Major Cotton in 1838. It is believed that this was the first climbing of this mountain by white men.The southern summit of the mountain has an abandoned triangulation station with a collapsed radio tower, while the top of the mountain has a trig tower for taking bearings and measurements. At the top of the mountain one can get great views of Brisbane and Moreton Bay. For many years the undeveloped bushland around this hilly area was empty, except for the occasional dirt track. This was partly due to the proximity to the Belmont Rifle Range, around which access is restricted for safety reasons. The bushlands near Mount Petrie are an important habitat for koala, wallaby, and echidna colonies.A few kilometres east of Mount Petrie is the Leslie Harrison Dam. This places the large hill in the catchment area for Redland City, another reason that development has been curtailed in this part of the city. The construction of permanent facilities for the Western Corridor Recycled Water Project in 2008 had a significant impact on the bushland on the mountain.The other two tallest mountains in Brisbane are Mount Coot-tha and Mount Gravatt. The Gateway Motorway passes a few kilometres to the west of the mountain.

Mackenzie is a south-eastern suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the 2016 census, Mackenzie had a population of 2,094 people.

Capalaba West was an outer suburb of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, located 17 kilometres (11 mi) east of the CBD.The Capalaba region was initially settled in 1859 when the Queensland Government offered incentives to encourage immigration. The Department of Environment and Resource Management sought public comment on the proposal to discontinue the use of the name Capalaba West as a suburb and to include the area in the adjoining suburb of Chandler. On 30 April 2010, Capalaba West was absorbed into the suburb of Chandler.

Wakerley is a suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the 2016 census, Wakerley had a population of 8,445 people.
