On 1 October 2012, at approximately 20:23 HKT, the passenger ferries Sea Smooth and Lamma IV collided off Yung Shue Wan, Lamma Island, Hong Kong. This occurred on the National Day of the People's Republic of China, and one of the ships was headed for the commemorative firework display, scheduled to take place half an hour later. With 39 killed and 92 injured, the incident was the deadliest maritime disaster in Hong Kong since 1971.On 14 February 2015, Sea Smooth′s captain Lai Sai-ming was convicted of 39 counts of manslaughter over the deaths, while Lamma IV′s captain Chow Chi-wai was acquitted of the same charges by the High Court. Both men were found guilty of endangering the safety of others at sea. On 16 February, Lai and Chow were sentenced to eight years' and nine months' imprisonment respectively.

Yung Shue Wan Ferry Pier is a ferry pier located on the waterfront of Yung Shue Wan in Yung Shue Wan Main Street, Lamma Island, Hong Kong. There are two ferry routes provided in the pier. One is the service between Yung Shue Wan and Central, operated by Hong Kong & Kowloon Ferry. Another one is the service between Yung Shue Wan and Aberdeen via Pak Kok Tsuen, operated by Tsui Wah Ferry.

Lamma Power Station

Lamma Power Station, informally known as Lamma Island Power Station, is a thermal power station and solar farm in Po Lo Tsui, Lamma Island, Hong Kong. With an installed capacity of 3,617 MW, the power station is the second largest coal-fired power station in Hong Kong after Castle Peak Power Station. Completed in 1982 for Hongkong Electric, the station provides power to Hong Kong Island and Lamma Island. It was later expanded several times. As of 2021, the total installed capacity of the power station was 3,617 MW, made up of 2,000 MW coal-fired units, 555 MW oil-fired gas turbine units, 1,060 MW gas-fired combined cycle units, and one 1.1 MW solar power system.

Lamma Winds

Lamma Winds (traditional Chinese: 南丫風采發電站; simplified Chinese: 南丫风采发电站; pinyin: Nányā Fēngcǎi Fādiànzhàn) is a wind farm, more accurately a lone wind turbine, in Tai Ling, Lamma Island, Hong Kong where the average wind velocity is 5.5 m/s.Built near the Lamma Power Station and owned by Hongkong Electric, on average it provides slightly over 100 kW of power to Hong Kong Island and Lamma Island.
