Ashland High School (Oregon)

Ashland is a city in Jackson County, Oregon, United States. It lies along Interstate 5 approximately 16 miles (26 km) north of the California border and near the south end of the Rogue Valley. The city's population was 21,360 at the 2020 census. The city is the home of Southern Oregon University (SOU) and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF). These are important to Ashland's economy, which also depends on restaurants, galleries, and retail stores that cater to tourists. Lithia Park along Ashland Creek, historic buildings, and a paved intercity bike trail provide additional visitor attractions. Ashland, originally called "Ashland Mills", was named after Ashland County, Ohio, the original home of founder Abel Helman, and secondarily for Ashland, Kentucky, where other founders had family connections. Ashland has a council-manager government assisted by citizen committees. Historically, its liberal politics have differed, often sharply, with much of the rest of southwest Oregon.

Southern Oregon University (SOU) is a public university in Ashland, Oregon. It was founded in 1872 as the Ashland Academy, has been in its current location since 1926, and was known by nine other names before assuming its current name in 1997. Its Ashland campus – just 14 miles from Oregon's border with California – encompasses 175 acres. Five of SOU's newest facilities have achieved LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. SOU is headquarters for Jefferson Public Radio and public access station Rogue Valley Community Television. The university has been governed since 2015 by the SOU Board of Trustees.Southern Oregon University is organized into seven academic divisions: the Oregon Center for the Arts at SOU; Business, Communication and the Environment; Education, Health and Leadership; Humanities and Culture; Social Sciences; Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics; and Undergraduate Studies. About 90 bachelor's degree, graduate and certificate programs are offered. Most of SOU's academic programs are on the 10-week quarter system. The Nils Ahlstrom House is a nineteenth century Classical Revival house located in Ashland, Oregon. Built in 1888 by Nils Ahlstrom, a railroad worker who had emigrated from Sweden, the home was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

The National Fish and Wildlife Forensics Laboratory is located in Ashland, Oregon, United States. Founded in 1988 and run by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, the forensics laboratory is the only such laboratory in the world devoted to wildlife law enforcement. By treaty, the forensics laboratory is also the official crime lab for CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) and the Wildlife Group of Interpol. The laboratory maintains an online feather database, called the Feather Atlas, which is available on their website. Ken Goddard serves as the current Lab Director.

ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum in Ashland, Oregon, is a science museum, founded as a non-profit organization in 2001 by a small group of families. The goal was to use an existing 26,000 sq. ft. building to create an interactive science center, to serve the region's schools toward Oregon State science standards. Over 100 hands-on exhibits were built, both in the Museum's shop and by volunteers. Programs were developed, including: field trips for school children, summer camps, live science demonstrations, and weekend themed programming.ScienceWorks' school programs serve 16 counties and 24 school districts in Southern Oregon and Northern California with field trips and classroom outreach. 57% of the schools served are low-income, Title I schools., and 78% of students are from rural areas. In 2017-2018, all 1,000 Medford School District third-graders visited ScienceWorks. In total, over 9,000 school children benefit from the Museum's school programs each year.ScienceWorks designs and constructs exhibits to display on-site and to travel to other museums. These exhibits include "Take Flight," "Sportsology" and "Noise!" The latest exhibit designed and constructed in the Museum's shop is "Pterosaurs: Ancient Rulers of the Sky."Erin Endress is ScienceWorks' Executive Director. Endress holds a degree in museum studies from Eastern Illinois University, has worked at the museum since 2018.

Trinity Episcopal Church is a historic Episcopal church at 44 N. 2nd Street in Ashland, Oregon. It is also the oldest church in Ashland. Constructed in 1894 and completed in 1895, its design was based on drawings by local builder W. J. Schmidt. Built in the Gothic Revival style, it features a pitched gable roof, a pointed west-facing window, a gabled south-facing porch, and a trussed rafter roof. The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. It was included again on the National Register in 2000 as a contributing building in the Ashland Downtown Historic District.

The Columbia Hotel is a former European-style hotel in Ashland, Oregon, and at the time of its closing in 2021 had been in continuous operation since its construction in 1910. The hotel occupied the second floor of the Enders Building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.Designed by architect Frank Chamberlain Clark, the Enders Building was the first concrete commercial structure in Ashland. The Ashland Tidings, December 12, 1910, called it "the largest structure of its kind in Southern Oregon." Featuring characteristics of the Chicago style, it is also significant as an early example of a department store. Hotel accommodations on the second level were constructed to make it possible for shoppers from Northern California as well as from Oregon towns as far north as Grants Pass to travel to the mercantile shops in downtown Ashland by wagon, train, or car to shop and then stay the night at the hotel, and return home the next day.For decades, under the direction of local businessman H.G. Enders, the building was the largest mercantile establishment between Sacramento and Portland. The Columbia Hotel, the only surviving Ashland hotel from this period, remained true to its original construction with much of the original fixtures, furniture, and all of the original millwork. Its interior featured an antique tin-lined wooden telephone booth, believed to be the oldest booth in Oregon still serving callers.The same year the Enders Building brought its shops, restaurant, and Columbia Hotel to Ashland the Citizens Banking and Trust Co. Building went up next door (with a bank, grocery, and professional offices), while a four-story Elks Lodge (BPOE #944) was constructed directly across the street—all part of the 1909–1913 building boom that shifted attention and commerce away from Ashland's traditional town center, the Plaza. On October 10, 2010, Ashland temporarily closed a stretch of Main Street for a centennial celebration in which re-dedication ceremonies were held at both the Columbia Hotel and Elks Lodge.The Columbia Hotel closed permanently on November 1, 2021, after 111 years in operation, the longest of any continuously operating hotel in Oregon.

The Ashland Downtown Historic District in Ashland, Oregon is a 32.2 acres (13.0 ha) historic district (United States) which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. The district is roughly bounded by Lithia Way and C Street, Church, Lithia Park and Hargadine and Gresham Streets. The listing included 55 contributing buildings and six contributing objects, as well as 26 non-contributing buildings and one non-contributing object. Eleven buildings were already separately listed on the National Register.
