Dunsden Green

Playhatch (or Play Hatch) is a hamlet in the civil parish of Eye & Dunsden in South Oxfordshire, England, about 2 miles (3.2 km) northeast of Reading, Berkshire.

Eye and Dunsden is a largely rural civil parish in the most southern part of the English county of Oxfordshire. It includes the villages of Sonning Eye, Dunsden Green and Playhatch and borders on the River Thames with the village of Sonning in Berkshire connected via multi-span medieval Sonning Bridge (a series of bridges across channels, in sections replaced due to erosion and narrowness). Before 1866, Eye & Dunsden was part of the trans-county parish of Sonning.Up to 2003, the parish also included the western half of the village of Binfield Heath which was then joined with the rest of that village, previously in Shiplake, to create a new parish. To the west, it abuts Berkshire's county town Reading. To the east is also the parish of Shiplake, the near part of which on the road to Henley-on-Thames is known as Shiplake Row. Sonning Common and the relatively early 2000s-created civil parish of Binfield Heath around that village rise to the north. In 2011 its population was 366, bar farmhouses, riverboats and caravans all grouped in the above three settlements. Caversham Lakes, including the Thames and Kennet Marina, Redgrave Pinsent Rowing Lake, Reading Sailing Club, Isis Water Ski Club, and Sonning Works, are all on the Thames flood plain within the parish. Berry Brook starts close to the Redgrave-Pinsent Rowing Lake to the southwest, running northeast through the River Thames floodplain past Playhatch, under the B478 Playhatch Road near the Sonning Works, before joining the river at Hallsmead Ait. Eye & Dunsden features some ancient wooded parts of the Chiltern Hills and rolling farmland.

The Berry Brook is a stream close to Sonning Eye in the flood plain of the River Thames, in southern Oxfordshire, England.The stream flows northeast from close to the Redgrave-Pinsent Rowing Lake, parallel with the A4155 Henley Road out of Caversham, Reading towards Henley-on-Thames. It flows under the B478 Playhatch Road close to Playhatch and the Sonning Works owned by Lafarge. The stream passes under Spring Lane by the Flowing Spring public house, also near Playhatch. It then flows through farmland owned by Phillimore estate, entering the River Thames at Hallsmead Ait just south of Shiplake. Berry Brook Boats is located at the Thames and Kennet Marina, close to the source of Berry Brook.

Caversham Park Village is a suburb of Reading, England. It is entirely residential and associated with Emmer Green, which has the closest amenities — much of it is marked as Emmer Green. Both are upland areas of the former enlarged form of Caversham, now suburbs of Reading. Whilst the area has no formal boundaries, it generally refers to the residential area constructed on part of the former grounds of Caversham Park, to the eastern side of Caversham and adjoining the border with Oxfordshire.The village was largely developed between the mid 1960s and early 1970s, with the construction of 1500 new houses and the supporting road infrastructure. Unlike most of the rest of Caversham, which became part of Reading in 1911, Caversham Park Village remained in Oxfordshire until 1977, when the boundaries were redrawn to include it in Reading and it was transferred to Berkshire.Caversham Park Village is shared with Emmer Green in forming the 'Peppard' electoral ward of the borough of Reading named after Rotherfield Peppard, also known as Peppard which is the village adjoining the north of the rest of Emmer Green.

The Sonning Works are a gravel works owned by Lafarge, located near Sonning Eye, Oxfordshire, England.

Holmwood is a country house in the village of Binfield Heath in Oxfordshire, England. It is situated on Shiplake Row in the village of Binfield Heath near Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire. The house is 14,200 sq ft in size with 11 en suite bedrooms. The house is set over 26.6 acres of grounds with an infinity swimming pool, sauna and tennis court. The house has three 3-bedroom cottages. It was built in the early 18th-century, and was subsequently altered later that century. The house has been listed Grade II on the National Heritage List for England since February 1985.It was owned by Admiral Charles Swinburne in the 19th-century and was the family home of Swinburne's son, the poet Algernon Swinburne. For many years Holmwood was owned by the Makower family. In April 1981 the 'remaining contents' of Holmwood were sold in an auction at the house by John Moritz Makower at Sotheby's. The sale included English furniture, paintings and porcelain. It was owned by the barrister and peer Jonathan Marks, Baron Marks of Henley-on-Thames from 2008 to 2018 and restored by him. The house was put up for sale through Savills in November 2018 for £11.25 million. In 2019 the house was bought by Rupert Murdoch and Jerry Hall for £11 million. Murdoch and Hall divorced in 2022 with Hall keeping Holmwood in the divorce settlement.

Clayfield Copse is a local nature reserve on the northern edge of the suburb of Caversham in Reading, UK. The site is 8.65 hectares (21.4 acres) in size and is a natural open space consisting of fields, wild flower meadow and native woodlands adjoining the Oxfordshire countryside. Some of the woodland is being actively managed as hazel coppice, and traditional dead hedging defines some of the ancient woodland areas. The site is the only outcrop of London Clay north of the River Thames in Reading and makes up the southern tip of the Chiltern Hills. The nature reserve is under the management of the Reading Borough Council.The site also features a sculpture trail.

Binfield Heath is a village and civil parish in South Oxfordshire, England, 2+1⁄2 miles (4 km) south-southwest of Henley-on-Thames and 3+1⁄2 miles (6 km) northeast of Reading on a southern knoll of the Chiltern Hills. The 2011 Census recorded the parish population as 709. The village has a Congregational Church, ground for polo, Michelin star chef-run restaurant, and public house. 12 of its 294 homes are listed buildings.

BBC Radio Berkshire is the BBC's local radio station serving the county of Berkshire. It broadcasts on FM, DAB, digital TV and via BBC Sounds studios at Thames Valley Park near Reading. According to RAJAR, the station has a weekly audience of 118,000 listeners and a 4.4% share as of December 2022.

Caversham Park is a Victorian-era stately home with parkland in the suburb of Caversham on the outskirts of Reading, England. Historically located in Oxfordshire, it became part of Berkshire with boundary changes in 1911. Caversham Park was home to BBC Monitoring and BBC Radio Berkshire. The park is listed as Grade II in the English Heritage Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.

The Emmer Green (Hanover) Chalk Mine is an extensive abandoned subterranean chalk mine at Emmer Green, north of Reading in Berkshire, located just north of the junction of Peppard Road and Kiln Road (OS Grid Ref: SU722769). The mine is so named because the land is now owned by the Hanover Housing Association who have a development adjacent at Wordsworth Court. The mine is one of a number of known mines in the Emmer Green and Reading area where chalk mining was often done in conjunction with brick making as chalk and clay are found together in the area and chalk was use in the making of bricks. It is likely other abandoned mines remain undiscovered. The area was once known as Rose Hill and contained brickfield and chalk mining works. The mine was discovered in 1977 during building works. Access is through a 50 ft fixed steel ladder in a narrow vertical shaft below a locked iron cover.
