Llangurig railway station

The Llangurig branch was a part of a proposed scheme by the Manchester and Milford Railway (M&MR) to connect industrialised Northwest England with the West Wales deep water port of Milford Haven. After various financial and construction difficulties, the 1.5 miles (2.4 km) of the Llangurig branch is noted as being the shortest lived working branch line in the United Kingdom, receiving only one train.

Llangurig is a village and community in Montgomeryshire, Powys, Wales. The population was 723 in the 2011 UK Census. The community includes the hamlet of Cwmbelan. The River Wye, the A470 and the A44 trunk roads pass through Llangurig, as do the National Cycle Route 8 and the Wye Valley Walk. The 15th century parish church located in the village is dedicated to Saint Curig, its reputed founder, and is a grade II* listed building. There are also two small chapels. The village has been home for many decades to a craft shop as well as two public houses, a number of bed and breakfasts and a small village shop and Post Office. The manor house, Clochfaen Hall, was designed by architect William Arthur Smith Benson, a designer of the Arts and Crafts movement. He also designed the drinking fountain between the road and the village green, the erection of which commemorates the completion of the village's piped water supply, a scheme begun by Colonel Gerald Hope Lloyd-Verney, to whom the fountain is also a memorial. Llangurig used to have a small primary school. In January 2003, the school had only 19 pupils. In 2006, a successful campaign against closure by the local council was fought. The school eventually closed at the end of the 2008 academic year. The village holds an annual agricultural show and sheepdog trials in August.

Bryntail lead mine is a disused lead mine near Llanidloes in Powys, Wales. Sited on the Afon Clywedog and in the shadow on the Clywedog reservoir dam, it is in the care of Cadw. There were three main shafts, Murray's, Gundry's and Western shaft. The majority of the scheduled buildings on the site are associated with Gundry's shaft, including a barytes mill, two crushing houses, ore bins, roasting ovens and water tanks. On the eastern dressing floor are jigger box placements, three buddles, two more ore bins and washing and picking floors. Other mine buildings include the manager's office, smithy, store buildings and a circular magazine, as well as the miners' footbridge.

Llanidloes Without is a rural community in north Powys (Montgomeryshire), Wales. Settlements within the community include Van, Oakley Park and Glan-y-nant.

The Afon Dulas is a river in Powys, Wales (Afon is Welsh for river). It is a headwater tributary of the River Severn, which it joins at Llanidloes opposite the confluence with the Afon Clywedog. Its principal tributary is the Afon Brochan. The total length of the Dulas and Brochan is 19.6 km. Other tributaries include Nant Cydros, the Rhydyclwydau Brook and Nant Gynwydd.

Llanidloes High School is a state secondary school and sixth form in Llanidloes, Powys. The school had 564 pupils on roll in 2016. It is an English-medium school with significant Welsh language provision, with pupils attending from other parts of Powys. The school was rated good in a 2016 Estyn report and green in the 2019 national school categorization. The school was also included in The Times top ten sixth forms in Wales in 2018 and 2019.The school is also home to the North Powys ASD centre.

The Llanidloes transmitting station is a broadcasting and telecommunications facility consisting of a self-supporting 23 m lattice mast erected on land that is itself about 245 m above sea level about 1 km to the west of the town of Llanidloes in Powys, Wales. It was originally built by the BBC, entering service just before Christmas 1966 transmitting the now-defunct 405-line VHF television system. Transmissions of the original three FM radio services began in February 1967. Currently, the transmitter provides DVB-T digital television to the area, along with FM radio. With only 2 W ERP, the television broadcasts only cover the town of Llanidloes to the east, the radio broadcasts reach somewhat further east along the Severn valley towards Llandinam.

The Old Market Hall is the oldest timber-framed market hall in Llanidloes, Wales, dating to the early 17th century. Until well into the 20th century a weekly market was held on the open cobbled ground floor. Over the years the large and well-lit upper floor room has been used as a wool and flannel market, law court, preachers' hall, flannel store, working men's institute and museum.

Llanidloes (Welsh pronunciation: [ɬanˈɪdlɔɨs]) is a town and community on the A470 and B4518 roads in Powys, within the historic county boundaries of Montgomeryshire (Welsh: Sir Drefaldwyn), Wales. The population in 2011 was 2,929, of whom 15% could speak Welsh. It is the third largest settlement in Montgomeryshire, after Newtown and Welshpool. It is the first town on the River Severn (Welsh: Afon Hafren), counting from the source. The town's Member of Parliament is the Conservative Craig Williams (MP since 2019) and its Member of the Senedd is Conservative Russell George (MS since 2011).

Llanidloes Town Hall (Welsh: Neuadd y Dref Llanidloes) is a municipal building in Great Oak Street, Llanidloes in Powys, Wales. The structure, which is the meeting place of Llanidloes Town Council as well as the home of the Llanidloes Museum and the Llanidloes Public Library, is a Grade II listed building.

Garreg Lwyd is a hill in Mid Wales, between the towns of Rhayader and Llangurig. It rises to the east above the A470 as it follows the Wye Valley. The Bryn Titli Wind Farm is situated on an area of flatter moorland to the north-west. Red kites frequent the area.

The Afon Clywedog is an upland headwater tributary of the River Severn in Powys, Wales. It is approximately 29 km long and has its source on the flanks of Plynlimon and has its confluence with the Severn in Llanidloes. The annual rainfall over the catchment is between 1737 mm and 1836 mm.
