Largs North is a suburb in the Australian state of South Australia located on the Lefevre Peninsula in the west of Adelaide about 17 kilometres (11 mi) northwest of the Adelaide city centre.

The Lefevre Peninsula is a peninsula located in the Australian state of South Australia located about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) northwest of the Adelaide city centre. It is a narrow sand spit of about 30 square kilometres (12 sq mi) running north from its connection to the mainland. The name given to the peninsula by the traditional owners of the area, the Kaurna people, was Mudlangga, meaning "nose-place" in the Kaurna language.

Fort Largs is a historic defence site in the seaside suburb of Taperoo near Port Adelaide, approximately 18 km (11 mi) north west of Adelaide's centre. In the 1960s it was repurposed for use as the South Australian Police Academy. In 2012, new police academy housing was constructed on the east portion of the site and in 2014 the west portion of the site, including the historic defence constructions, was slated for redevelopment. In June 2016, Renewal SA announced AVJennings as its preferred tenderer for the redevelopment of part of the site for about 250 homes, with the heritage-listed WW II barracks to be converted to apartments, the Drill Hall to be retained as a community facility, and the historic fort to be owned and operated by the National Trust of SA.

The Multifunction Polis (MFP) was a controversial scheme for a planned community in Australia proposed in 1987 and abandoned in 1998. From the Greek word "polis", meaning "city", it was imagined as a place where work and leisure, lifetime education and intercultural exchange, research and manufacturing would be uniquely integrated.The MFP was intended to have an initial population of 100,000, though some modelling was done on the assumption of a population up to 250,000. Futuristic infrastructure and modern communications were expected to help attract high-tech industries. Asian investors were targeted as an important source of funds, with an emphasis on Japanese investors.Several possible locations were put forward and in 1990 a site at Gillman, north of Adelaide, was selected. The proposal generated noisy opposition in Australia, with some critics claiming it would open the way for a Japanese settlement on Australian soil. The MFP, at least as originally envisaged, never eventuated.
