Whittemore Peterson Institute (WPI) is currently located within the Center for Molecular Medicine at the University of Nevada, Reno. It was founded in 2005. WPI is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit medical research institute dedicated to scientific discovery surrounding complex neuroimmune diseases including chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and other similarly presenting illnesses.Whittemore Peterson Institute is a research institute and charitable foundation known for its claims that the retrovirus xenotropic murine leukemia virus-related virus (XMRV) is associated with and may cause chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and a variety of additional diseases. A report by WPI scientists of an association between CFS and XMRV was forcibly retracted by the journal Science when the results could not be replicated, and it was discovered that XMRV was a laboratory-created recombinant of two mouse viruses. Amid allegations of sloppiness and scientific misconduct, WPI personnel criticised the methods and motives of other scientists, implying that the negative results were part of a "cover-up" or a "bias against this disease (CFS)".WPI was created by the parents of a CFS patient, Annette and Harvey Whittemore, and by Daniel Peterson, an early researcher of the illness. Peterson left WPI in 2010 due to concerns related to the XMRV research. The institute is affiliated with the University of Nevada, Reno. Judy Mikovits joined as research director in 2006, but was terminated by WPI in October 2011 for not turning her work over to another scientist while also coming under investigation for alleged manipulation of data in her publications related to XMRV. WPI moved to the newly constructed Center for Molecular Medicine in August 2010.

Lawlor Events Center is northern Nevada's largest multi-purpose arena. It is located in Reno, Nevada at the intersection of North Virginia Street and 15th Street on the University of Nevada, Reno campus. It is named after former athletic director, baseball, basketball and football coach Jake Lawlor. It was built in 1983 and has a capacity of 12,000 including 11,536 multi-purpose seats. Lawlor is home to the Nevada Wolf Pack basketball teams, and also hosts boxing, concerts, conferences, PBR events, rodeos, WWE and other entertainment events. It is also the host for Washoe County School District high school graduations and winter commencement ceremonies for the university.

Mackay Stadium is an outdoor athletic stadium in the western United States, located on the campus of the University of Nevada in Reno, Nevada. The home venue for Nevada Wolf Pack football and women's soccer in the Mountain West Conference. it is named in honor of the Mackay family, particularly John William Mackay and his son Clarence H. Mackay, who donated funding to build the original stadium in 1909.

The UNLV Arboretum is an 80-acre (32 ha) arboretum on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in Paradise, Nevada. The arboretum was established in 1985, and includes all of the landscaped areas of the entire 335-acre (136 ha) campus. The arboretum's missions are to display mature plants suited for high desert conditions, and to investigate new plants and cultivars. The arboretum also includes a 2-acre (0.81 ha) Xeric Garden, established in 1988 and located at the entrance to the Marjorie Barrick Museum, which contains plants from arid regions from around the world.

University of Nevada, Reno Arboretum is a state arboretum located across the campus at the University of Nevada, Reno in Reno, Nevada. The arboretum was established in 1985 and contains a collection of trees, shrubs, flowers, ornamentals and native flora, including over 60 genera and about 200 species of trees, many with several cultivars present. Thirty-six mature elm trees line the Quad. Cherry Blossom Garden – Mt. Fuji cherry trees, azaleas, bamboo and ornamental grasses. Benson Gardens and Xeriscape, with Challenger Tree Memorial – crabapples, plums, maples, evergreens, plus an area of drought tolerant plants. Blue Atlas Cedars commemorate the astronauts lost in the Challenger Space Shuttle accident. The Quad – The Quad was originally used as a parade ground for student cadets in the late 19th century and in 1908 replanted to Thomas Jefferson's design for the University of Virginia lawn. In 1988, several elms were removed due to Dutch elm disease. The Quad is now planted with a mixture of elm, hackberry, ash and oak trees, and the lawn is interspersed with weeping white birch, oak and evergreen trees. Jimmie’s Garden – rock daphne, hornbeam, weeping Nootka cypress, a Japanese pagoda tree, star magnolias, rhododendrons, perennial shrubs and flowers. Fleischmann Agriculture Entry Landscape – magnolia, spring-flowering bulbs and annuals. Trees include crimean lindens, ash, blue spruce, dwarf montgomery spruce and flowering pears along the street. Merriam A. Brown Rose Garden – roses. Manzanita Lake Joe Robertson Native Garden – plants from the Great Basin Desert, Mojave Desert and Sonoran Desert.

The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine is an academic division of the University of Nevada, Reno and grants the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. The School of Medicine was founded on March 25, 1969, as the first medical school in the state of Nevada. More than 1,500 MDs have graduated from the School of Medicine. The pre-clinical campus is located in Reno, but the third and fourth years can be spent in hospitals and clinics throughout Nevada. Residencies associated with the School of Medicine are located in Reno. Students may earn the MD-MPH, MD-MBA or MD–PhD degrees as well.

The Donald W. Reynolds School of Journalism (RSJ) is a professional school of the University of Nevada, Reno. Established on September 14, 1984, it counts six Pulitzer Prize recipients among its alumni. The school offers programs in advertising, public relations and integrated marketing, visual communications fields such as documentary film and graphic design, and bilingual media fields such as bilingual journalism and bilingual strategic communications.

The Wilbur D. May Center is an attraction located in Rancho San Rafael Regional Park at 1595 North Sierra, Reno, Nevada. The facility comprises the Wilbur D. May Museum and the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden. Previously, it also included the Great Basin Adventure, a children's park.

The Davidson Academy is a school for profoundly gifted students with two accredited options – an online campus for students living anywhere in the United States and Canada and a Reno, Nevada, public school located on the University of Nevada, Reno, campus for students living in the area. The school, founded in 2006, is the first public school of its kind in the nation for profoundly gifted (high IQ) students. The Reno public school is located in the Jot Travis Building on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno. As of the 2021-2022 school year, 144 students are enrolled in the Davidson Academy Reno campus and 98 students are enrolled through the online campus. The Davidson Academy provides each student with a personalized learning plan, designed to give them an education specifically catered to their individual, unique needs. Unlike traditional school settings, the academy's classes do not group students by age, but by ability. The school is designed to provide an educational setting where the abilities, strengths, and interests of highly intelligent young people are encouraged and supported. Eligible candidates must score in the 99.9th percentile on accepted intelligence and/or achievement tests; perform at a required academic level; exhibit intellectual and academic achievement; are, or intend to be, residents of Nevada; and other criteria. As ranked by the Washington Post's Jay Mathews, the Davidson Academy is one of the nation's "Top-performing schools with elite students". The academy was also named the top school in Nevada by MSN.com and academy students scored at the top on state tests.The average class ratio for students to teachers is currently about 4:1. The academy's directors are Colleen Harsin (Reno campus) and Stacy Hawthorne, Ed.D. (online campus).In 2017-2018, the academy launched an online option. The Mackay School of Earth Sciences and Engineering (formerly Mackay School of Mines) is a specialized school within the University of Nevada, Reno. It is named after John Mackay, father of Clarence Mackay.

University of Nevada Reno Historic District on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno is a 40-acre (16 ha) historic district that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) on February 25, 1987. It includes works by architects Stanford White and Frederick J. DeLongchamps. It includes 13 contributing buildings and two other contributing structures, including two separately NRHP-listed buildings, the Mackay School of Mines Building and Morrill Hall. It is the state's flagship public university and primary land grant institution. It was founded on October 12, 1874, in Elko, Nevada. The university is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity" by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. According to the National Science Foundation, the university spent $144 million on research and development in 2018, ranking it 139th in the nation. The university has a medical school. The university is also home to the Donald W.
