Rincon del Diablo is a community in San Diego County, California. Because it predates Escondido and other geopolitical boundaries, it does not necessarily correspond to present day definitions. Western and northern parts of the community contain low-density semi-rural housing. Southeastern part is agricultural. The Orfila winery is located on the border between Rincon del Diablo and San Diego. The community is divided between zip codes 92025 and 92027. The area code is 760. In part, is within the "sphere of influence" of Escondido, and therefore those parts may eventually be annexed to the city. Current city policies prevent the city from actively seeking annexation of new land and require property owners to petition to be annexed, a slow and expensive process.It shares the name with the original Rancho Rincon del Diablo that included the city of Escondido and surrounding areas in the 19th century. Rincon del Diablo means "Corner of the devil or where evil ones abide" in Spanish referring to lands outside Christianity or unenlightened - a dark place to fear. In reference to the beliefs of that period being what is not of Christians belongs to evil. The full name was likely shortened to simply Rincon del Diablo as the Rancho identified this specific place whereas Spanish maps of the lands known labeled the unknown as harboring evils. The United States Census Bureau does not provide demographic estimates for the community. Rincon Del Diablo includes census tract 207.06 of San Diego County. According to SANDAG estimates, total population of census tract 207.06 is 6,159 people. Median household income is $116,487. 19.2% are under the age of 18 and 17.3% are over 65. Median age is 46.1 years. Ethnic makeup is 76.5% non-Hispanic White, 15.7% Hispanic, 4.4% Asian / Pacific Islander. In 2008, there were 4,572 registered voters in the community.

San Pasqual Valley, historically spelled as San Pascual (Spanish for "Saint Paschal"), is the northernmost community of the city of San Diego. It is named for the Kumeyaay village of San Pasqual that was once located there. It is bordered on the north by the city of Escondido, on the east and west by unincorporated land within San Diego County, and on the south by the city of Poway and the community of Rancho Bernardo. San Pasqual Valley is home to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. State Highway 78 runs through the valley between Escondido and Ramona. The valley is part of the Santa Ysabel Creek watershed, which drains into the San Dieguito River.

The Battle of San Pasqual, also spelled San Pascual, was a military encounter that occurred during the Mexican–American War in what is now the San Pasqual Valley community of the city of San Diego, California. The series of military skirmishes ended with both sides claiming victory, and the victor of the battle is still debated. On December 6 and December 7, 1846, General Stephen W. Kearny's US Army of the West, along with a small detachment of the California Battalion led by a Marine Lieutenant, engaged a small contingent of Californios and their Presidial Lancers Los Galgos (The Greyhounds), led by Major Andrés Pico. After U.S. reinforcements arrived, Kearny's troops were able to reach San Diego.

San Pasqual Battlefield State Historic Park honors the soldiers who fought in the 1846 Battle of San Pasqual, the bloodiest battle in California during the Mexican–American War. The battle was fought between United States troops under the command of General Stephen Kearny, and the Californio forces under the command of General Andres Pico on December 6, 1846. The Native Sons of the Golden West were instrumental in raising money, preserving and ultimately creating the park which was then given to the State of California. It is now a California State Park as well as a California Historical Landmark. The 50-acre (200,000 m2) park is next to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, at San Pasqual Valley Road, south of Escondido, California on Highway 78 in San Diego County.The park is open only on weekends, and features a visitor center with displays about the cultural history of the San Pasqual Valley, exhibits, and a movie about the battle. Living history presentations are held at the park, with volunteers from the San Pasqual Battlefield Volunteer Association.

San Pasqual, the Kumeyaay pueblo, in San Diego County, California, that was once located in the San Pasqual Valley and for which the valley is named. In pre-Hispanic times the Kumeyaay had lived for centuries in the San Pasqual Valley. Following the closing of the missions by the Mexican government in 1833, the Kumeyaay moved back to their San Pasqual Valley and the Kumeyaay pueblo of San Pasqual was established on November 16, 1835.The village of San Pasqual was a stop on the road between San Diego and Sonora from the late 1820s. The road ran from San Diego to Rancho Santa Maria de Los Peñasquitos then 16 miles to the village, then turned south and up to the ridge line bordering the south side of the valley, then eastward into the Santa Maria Valley (through what became Rancho Valle de Pamo, and later modern Ramona) and on to Santa Ysabel for a distance of 18 miles. The road went on to San Jose Valley, Vallecito, across the Colorado Desert, to cross the Colorado River into Sonora. From the time of the California Gold Rush San Pasqual became a stop on the main road for wagon and stagecoach traffic following the American Conquest of California.The Kumeyaay of San Passqual were evicted from their land and homes in 1878 by San Diego County authorities. They have become known as the San Pasqual Band of Diegueno Mission IndiansThe only remnant of the village is the small graveyard east of the San Diego Acheological Center on the north side of State Highway 78.

Orange Glen High School (OGHS) is one of the five public high schools in the Escondido Union School District in Escondido, California. It was established in 1962. The school earned the California Distinguished School Award in 2007.In the 2005-06 school year Orange Glen High School served 2,370 students from grades 9 to 12. It has six academic counselors. The school's yearbook is known as The Torch. The Musket school newspaper is part of the High School National Ad Network.

Westminster Seminary California is a Reformed and Presbyterian Christian seminary in Escondido, California. It was initially a branch campus of Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia until 1982 when it became fully independent. It has 13 full-time faculty members and enrolls approximately 155 full-time students.

Valley High School is an alternative, continuation high school, part of the Escondido Union High School District in Escondido, California. VHS has nearly thirty to fifty new students every month.

Rancho Rincon del Diablo was a 12,653-acre (51.20 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day San Diego County, California given in 1843 to Juan Bautista Alvarado. The name means "the devil's corner" or "the devil's lurking place". The rancho lands include the present day city of Escondido and Rincon Del Diablo.

Escondido Bible College (EBC) was a private Bible college in Escondido, California. It was founded in 1983 as Cathedral Bible College by Coleman and Mary Phillips and George and Jean Simmons. Its name was changed to Escondido Bible College, following the renaming of its patron church, Cathedral of the Valley, to Escondido Christian Center. In the mid-2000s, its present name was adopted. EBC was associated with the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel (ICFG).

San Pasqual High School is a public high school in Escondido, California. It is named after the nearby San Pasqual Valley. It is within the Escondido Union High School District.

San Dieguito River Park is a greenway of 92,000-acre (37,000 ha) in San Diego County, California, United States. The park, established in 1989, stretches for 55 miles (89 km) from the mouth of the San Dieguito Lagoon (a lagoon between Solana Beach and Del Mar) to the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve close to Julian, following the San Dieguito River. The park is a joint powers authority comprising the county of San Diego and cities of Del Mar, Escondido, Poway, San Diego, and Solana Beach. The park contains the Coast to Crest Trail with the planned length of 70 miles (110 km). As of 2017, 45 miles (72 km) of the Coast to Crest Trail have been built, as were 20 miles (32 km) of auxiliary trails. Open space within the park is a home to multiple species, including 230 birds. Coastal sage scrub habitat includes Least Bell's Vireo, Cactus wren, California gnatcatcher and San Diego horned lizard. A restoration project in the San Dieguito lagoon was completed in 2011 at the cost of 86 million dollars.
