The Marshall Hotel is a historic residential hotel located at 1232 N. LaSalle Street in the Near North Side neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Built in 1927, the hotel was one of several residential hotels built to house an influx of workers to Chicago in the 1920s. While the hotel offered rooms to both temporary and permanent residents, census records indicate that most of its residents were permanent. Architect Edmund Meles, who designed several hotels and apartment buildings in Chicago in the 1920s, designed the building in a mix of the Classical Revival and Renaissance Revival styles. The building has a brick exterior and features a limestone arched entrance, arched lintels with keystones around the first-floor windows, limestone quoins, and a pediment with an urn.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 27, 2017.

LaSalle Towers Apartments is a high-rise apartment complex in the Near North Side neighborhood of Chicago. The building is located at 1211 North LaSalle Street, which is the corner of LaSalle and Division Street. In the 1960s (possibly prior & afterwards) it was named the Tuscony Apartment Hotel. Mostly small apartments with two rooms of approx 8 ft wide (1-window each) by 10 ft long and a small bath room approx 6 x 7 ft and a small window between the two rooms. A short connecting corridor of approx 3 x 6 ft. One room had a kitchenette and the other was a setting/sleeping room. This is from my observation whilst looking for an apartment in 1965. The high-rise was built in 1929 and was originally used as a hotel. It was renovated in the early 1980s by Weese, Seegers, Hickey, Weese and converted into an apartment complex. During the renovation, the exterior of the building was covered on three sides with trompe-l'œil murals by Richard Haas. On the east face, the mural creates the illusion that the structure contains Chicago School bay windows and a cornice with a circular window. On the south face, Haas evokes two Louis Sullivan creations: the Golden Arch from the World's Columbian Exposition Transportation Building, and the circular window of the Merchants' National Bank in Grinnell, Iowa. Beneath the arch, Sullivan, Daniel Burnham, John Wellborn Root, and Frank Lloyd Wright stand together. A "reflection" of the Chicago Board of Trade Building also appears in the painted windows between these two features. On the north face, another set of painted windows contain a fake reflection of Adolf Loos' unused design for the Tribune Tower, which Loos had envisioned as a large column-like structure. Collectively, the murals are called Homage to the Chicago School of Architecture.

The North Wells Street Historic District is a commercial historic district located on the west side of the 1200 block of North Wells Street in the Near North Side neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The district consists of seven buildings: four stores, two factories, and a firehouse. Built from 1871 to 1888, the buildings are an unusually intact block of what was once a much larger commercial district on the Near North Side. The four stores include a two-story frame storefront building, one of only six remaining from the post-Chicago Fire period in the city, and three three- or three-and-a-half-story store and flat buildings. The factories include a three-story loft and a two-story building that resembles the storefronts. The firehouse, known as Engine Company No. 27, is the second-oldest in the city.The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 3, 1984.

The Emmel Building is an historic building located at 1357 North Wells Street in the Near North Side neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The building is an example of a store and flat building, with a commercial space on the first floor and residential space on the upper two floors. Peter Emmel, a painter and interior decorator who came to Chicago from Germany in 1854, had the building built for his business and family. The building has an Italianate design with intricate carved stone on the second and third floors of the front facade. A metal cornice with brackets and a gable tops the building. While the building's layout is similar to the store and flat buildings of the commercial district to the south, its architecture is closer to that of the homes in the nearby Gold Coast.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 13, 1984.

The Bijou Theater (often referred to as The Bijou) was a gay adult theater and sex club in Chicago's Old Town neighborhood. The Bijou Theater opened in 1970 and it was the longest-running gay adult theater and sex club in the United States. The Bijou Theater featured the "Bijou Classics"—adult films produced by Bijou Video in the 1970s and 80s—every Monday. The theater also hosted live shows featuring adult entertainers, a non-sexual cabaret show written and directed by drag entertainer Miss Tiger and special appearances by gay porn stars. The theater permanently closed its door on September 30, 2015.

Carl Sandburg Village is a Chicago urban renewal project of the 1960s in the Near North Side community area of Chicago. It was named in honor of Carl Sandburg. Financed by the city, it is between Clark and LaSalle Streets between Division Street and North Avenue. Solomon Cordwell Buenz was the architect. The intent of the development was to buffer the encroaching blight from the north and west to the Gold Coast neighborhood in Chicago. In the process of constructing these mammoth structures an entire community of the first Puerto Ricans to Chicago was displaced. They moved north into the adjoining Lincoln Park neighborhood and west into Humboldt Park. Both of these new barrios of Puerto Ricans were also gentrified as Latinos continued to be displaced. In 1968, youth who were displaced by the Carl Sandburg Village began organizing their community to oppose urban renewal and transformed their local street gang into a human rights movement by the same name: Young Lords. In 1979 Carl Sandburg Village was converted to condominium ownership. While it is no longer as affordable as when built, it is still a relatively reasonably priced housing option within Chicago's very affluent Gold Coast.

The Mark Twain Hotel is a historic residential hotel located at 111 W. Division Street in the Near North Side community area of Chicago, Illinois. Built in 1930 by developer Fred Becklenberg, the hotel was one of several residential hotels built to house the influx of labor to Chicago in the late 1920s. Most of the hotel's residents were permanent; according to 1940 census records, the majority had been at the hotel for over five years. Architect Harry Glube designed the hotel in the Art Deco style, a departure from the revival styles normally used for residential hotels. The brick building features extensive terra cotta detailing, including an elaborate cornice and stringcourse above and below the fourth floor.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 8, 2017.The building was renovated starting in 2018 and celebrated a grand re-opening in 2020. During the renovation it was converted to 148 typical but affordable rental studio apartments by NHP Foundation.

Clark/Division (read as Clark and Division) is an "L" station on the CTA's Red Line. It is a subway station with one island platform, located at 1200 North Clark Street, in the Near North Side neighborhood of Chicago, between the Gold Coast and Old Town. Much of Chicago's North Loop nightlife, including the Rush Street district and many bars and nightclubs are located close to the station.

The Church of the Ascension is an Anglo-Catholic parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago. Founded in 1857 as a mission of St. James Church, it is now located on North La Salle Drive on Chicago's Near North Side. The church became a part of the Anglo-Catholic movement in 1869. The principal service on Sunday is the Solemn High Mass celebrated at 11 a.m., according to Rite II in the Episcopal Church's Book of Common Prayer (1979). This Mass is celebrated at the High Altar (facing east), and includes three sacred ministers, many acolytes, incense, and music provided by a professional choir. The mass includes processions and other devotions on certain feasts and holy days.

The Three Arts Club of Chicago was a Chicago home and club for women in the "three arts" of music, painting and drama. The building is on the List of Chicago Landmarks as of June 10, 1981. The club, modeled on the Three Arts Club of New York, was founded in 1912.

The West Burton Place Historic District is a residential historic district located at 143-161 W. Burton Place in the Near North Side neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The district, which includes twelve main houses and five carriage houses, was developed in the late 19th century but renovated into an artists' colony in the 1920s and 1930s. Artist Edgar Miller and businessman Sol Kogen began the district's redevelopment by redesigning and opening Carl Street Studios in 1927; at the time, Burton Place was known as Carl Street. Kogen and Miller, as well as other Chicago artists, gradually converted other homes on the street into artists' studios and residences. While the homes started off as Italianate or Queen Anne structures that had become dilapidated by the 1930s, their redesigns featured then-modern styles such as Art Deco and Art Moderne; five of the street's homes retain their original designs, providing architectural contrast. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 6, 2007. The cul-de-sac was later designated a Historic District by the City of Chicago after one of the buildings was threatened by demolition. The landmarking effort was led by author Keith Stolte, attorney and Chicago Art Deco Society Vice President Amy Keller, and Edgar Miller Legacy founder and Executive Director Zac Bleicher.

The Racquet Club of Chicago is a private social club and athletic club within the Gold Coast Historic District. The classical revival building was designed by architect Andrew Rebori, constructed in 1923. It is a contributing structure within the National Register Gold Coast Historic District. The Racquet Club currently features squash courts (two North American doubles and one International singles), two racquets courts, and one real tennis court restored in 2012. The racquets courts are the world's westernmost active venue for that sport.The Racquet Club has been renovated, and where there once were two Squash singles courts, of the "American" style dimensions, there now is one court of the "International" dimensions.
